Keeping it real and simple when making the catch and cooks is the best. We can all follow these examples of good food idea for dinner. Good stuff and fishing is fun too.
I went to Miami for work for three weeks in February/March 2019 and of course had to bring a fishing pole...or course I had to. I fished the canals every night after work and all day on the weekends. Caught a ton of Peacocks, Mayans, a Jaguar Gapote, and some other species. It was so much fun and so easy for anyone to do. I was on the west side right by the Turnpike and just north of IKEA/Bass Pro. Seriously, if you have ever thought of doing it, you have to. Get a hotel for a couple of days and hit the canals. They are everywhere and so are the fish. Way too much fun!!!! I didn't get to eat any since I was in the hotel but I wanted to try them. Glad to see you make this video to show that they are good fish!
I just started watching you and Brook. This show is excellent. You answer a lot of questions about what is in all the ponds, lakes , etc in residential areas. Cooking the fish adds "credibility" to your show. I watch your shows every day now. Very entertaining.
nice! where i fish with my mates, we typically leave the peacock bass on the line for an extra while the other guys throw their baits in the vicinity of the already hooked up peacock bass. it sort of keeps a chain of peacock bass landing going once you've got the teamwork system down haha
I've watched all of your videos, and what really stood out is your advocacy that there's no such thing as trash fish. I am from the Philippines, and here mostly all fish, wether a salt water or a fresh water fish, they're all edible. All parts, aside from the guts. I'm a huge fan. Hope you try stuffed grilled fish next time.
When I was in college, one of my roommates had 4 or 5 Oscars in an aquarium. They were about 4” long when he got them and in less than a year, they were the size of the one Brooke caught. We would go to the bait shop and buy shiners to feed them when they were grown. We would drop 20-25 shiners in the aquarium and the Oscars would demolish them. One Oscar would have 5 or 6 in their mouth at a time. Just couldn’t believe how aggressive those fish were. Great vid as always👍
We had a GIANT one growing up. Had a 400 gallon tank and he was alone most of his life because he killed and ate everything except one GIANT pleco. It was nuts. I bet that thing weighed 4 lbs.
I know this is a year + old but when you broke out the rice a roni I had to post.. On a night my mother wanted to make a quick meal Rice a Roni was definitely a possibility. You are absolutely right, the smell of the butter and seasoning packet while browning the rice is amazing. thanks for the memories.
What a great video and a great take on "trash" fish. Same goes for big game. Handled properly from the start and cooked properly, you can't go wrong. Thanks for sharing this experience!
Awesome video, we drive from south Ga every year in april and catch tons of Oscars, cichlids. Talapia, peacocks, and walking catfish. Last year we came home with 770 fillets.
We love your videos, keep it up! Im glad you keep your content clean and professional. We and my 3 year old can watch your catch and cooks all day long!
Have some Mayans that have taken over a local dog park canal. Used to go catch all my mullet bait in it, 15 years later I can't catch more than a dozen for an entire day. Time to give it a try
What is sad, is that the Cichlids and Oscars were aquarium fish that were dumped in the waters of Florida and they thrived and multiplied into an invasive species. The same with Peacock Bass, only someone transported the first ones from Mrxico
Peacock bass sustained us daily while our small crew was"trapped" rebuilding a part of Homestead after hurricane Andrew. Work during the day, catch a couple peacocks in the evening, eat, sleep, and do the same thing the next day,, for 6 months!
Excellent video as always Victor!... I'd like to see a Bowfin catch, clean, cook vid please! Tip: don't let the fillets come into contact with water as it will make the meat mushy, clean them carefully and blot them with dry paper towels. 😉
Soak the fillets in iced water with salt over night and bloodline taste is gone . Salt draws it out ! Kill the fish your keeping right away and toss on ice makes it even better !
Wow I am so jealous of the fishery there. I live in SO Cal and have never been very interested in fresh water. But I would love to do that on an off day. Thanks
Get a meat grinder, load up on invasive cichlids, and grind them up for chum. Add some menhaden oil to it to give it a nice oil slick. My neighbor used to do this for reef fishin for yellowtail snapper. Be a great way to help the environment and save yourself a few bucks on chum.
I just noticed something. You might want to consider moving that grill away from being under the over hang on the roof. Houses have been known to be damage by just the simplest grease fire or propane tank malfunction.
@@LeeBro999 I was on the fire dept. for 33 years. In that time I saw 4 houses get destroyed by either an over filled propane tank that vented while they were cooking or they started a grill right under right under the over hang. Even the radiate heat from a grill can start a fire. The best place to get propane is from a store that has an exchange program. They fill it to the legal weight and check every tank they fill. It's their reputation and insurance if something goes wrong. A lot of gas station propane fill stations really don't know what they are doing. A lot of times the bottle will say it's a 20 lbs. tank put it on the scale and fill it to 20 lbs even though the tank weighs 15 lbs empty. So your only getting 5 lbs. of gas.
I once went fishing in my backyard levy.... A few cast in and my line was cool, simple retrieve.... And then on the next cast, I cast 10 feet out, retrieve the line back and I noticed....... My line is now yellow green...... Smh I look up river and noticed a homeless person bathing.... No I was not mad, but I fell sorry for that person and left.... I was more glad to see a homeless person bath.... I ended up leaving...
@rickky spanishhh sewage goes to the sewage plant. Polymer is added to separate solids water is treated and solids go out a huge pipe in to the ocean right in front of south beach...
Filleting is definitely an art and I can appreciate the ease of eating and the fine dining presentation, but I LOVE cooking fish with the bones in. Ads so much flavor and also satisfies that primal urge we all have to pick apart food with our hands and sort of prolong the dining experience. Same with lobster, oysters, RIBS, T-Bone, etc. Now on a date or dinner with the in-laws, filet is the way to go.
Just a handy tip for spices that you make at home, save the parmesan cheese containers and fill them with your spice blend after a wash. makes it much easier to store and to shake on foods.
When I was a kid in the 70’ we used to say If you want to know what a fresh water fish tastes like; drink some water from the lake and that’s what it will taste like. Now that I am older Realize it’s all about taking care of your catch.Like you always say no bad fish just bad cooks. Greetings from N.Y.C. Are season should be in full swing in a few weeks. We kill time trying flies and Fly fishing for trout. It’s a blast, you should try it down in Florida. And the trout are delicious!😋🎣
I don't know who told you that freshwater fish was somehow inferior to saltwater fish but they mislead you. My family has enjoyed everything from Snook to Yellow Perch and both girls prefer freshwater fish every time. I'm 50/50. But crappie, perch, sunfish and walleye DOES NOT take a back seat to snapper, grouper or dorado. Not a chance. And cichlids, tilapia and oscars are every bit as good as walleye and crappie. I could do a hogfish vs Mayan cichlid taste test for you and you'd struggle to pick a winner.
Cool video keep up the good work. I think you should do a catch and cook on every species you can possibly catch in Florida face it you got a pretty good start so far LOL keep your lines tight man looking forward to the next video
The Mayan I like pan seared with old bay and lemon pepper then I’ll put it on a salad kale or spinach and the peacock love it fried into strips!!! Anyway good catch
What’s up Victor and Brook. My three boys have been following both brook and yourself. Have a major question about the freshwater fishing vid. What happened to the Crappie? I grew up in the bayous of Louisiana, and that’s I would fish for as a child, and till today at Lake “O”. You have to try to it!!!!

I'm from Michigan. The surprise is that you think freshwater fish are a bad thing. Ocean offers variety and size. The similarities between fish species far outweigh the differences.
I literally have all those fish in my fish tank. That's crazy!
Thats how they get in the south FL. waterways. lol
John Averick they escape the fish tank? Lol jk
Haha me too! Wonder how they taste sometimes but I love those fish

With so many invasive species in your area I'm surprised you didn't throw that crappie back.
I've always found that as long as the fish has been bled out that the mud taste goes away.

clint mink not really a problem I. Florida the waters is always moving canal are a major fishing areas in Florida because the water is always moving
Also the runoff with the chemicals that fwc sprays gets into the canals. Go out to the glades
