"DEF" born to play live. The live version of "Hunter' from the "Round" dvd.. his improvs to the original recording are... just... insane. Where Steve remained silent in life, he spoke thru his guitar, and that alone is a feat in and of itself. To be able to take what you're feeling emotionally and translate that thru song, is something I hope I'll ever be 1/2 as good as he was.
      Smh
Thank you Steve for being the inspiration for my wanting to learn electric guitar. Forever indebted, Sir.

It makes me sad that he is gone. I was mad at Phil when this first happened, as he seemed to dismiss Steve, and said he could do all his work. He has since shown a lot of love towards Steve and said some excellent things about him. Good on him. This band, and their music mean a great deal to me.

    • @bellroad100

Phil was heartbroken when Steve died. I think he had a hard time imagining going on with anyone but Steve, and in his book he even said that at first he didn’t want to. He told Joe that he didn’t think he wanted to continue and Joe had to talk him off the ledge, so to speak. He agreed to stay and finish the album and continue the band to honor Steve. So he had no choice but to cover all of Steve’s parts on the album, and it was physically and emotionally draining for him. The band then knew that they needed a second guitarist, and they lucked out when Viv joined. He will never be Steve, and he has never tried to be. In the thirty years since, the band, including Phil, has always honored Steve, both in their music and in their discussions of him.
      RIP Steve Clark. 🎸

@@bellroad100Vivian is a monster guitarist in his own right. I just think he doesn't have a few of those key ingredients Steve had. Steve had a great sense of melody and was a certified riff master. Some ppl just have that and some don't. Not everyone can be James Hetfield or Randy Rhodes. Some guys just have that ability to create great, catchy riffs. Steve had that in spades. It's why so many of Def Leppards riffs during his era are so catchy and stick in your head.

What can i say....he's a legend. No one will ever come close to Steve's extraordinary talent's. His stage presence was so breathtaking to watch, the way he played with the guitar slug down so low, spinning around and playing it above his head!! No one can ever compare or replicate it.....it was his signature! I will forever love him. I can't believe he's been gone for 31 years. What a tragic day, my ❤ still is broken! Def Leppard was never the same; but how could they ever be that great again without Steve Clark!!!! They were great, all of them together.....that was the magic potion! Never to be that again with Steve gone. I know they had to go on....and I have remained a fan, but the truth is that they have never measured up to when they were all together ....Steve, Joe, Phill,Sav and Rick! That was magic!!!! That was " Rock of Ages!" I look at video footage of Steve all the time......so sad he's gone. I will be a fan forever!

First - This ain't easy to do. If you play guitar, you know how hard it is to be accurate with either hand while mucking about and 'throwing shapes'. Second - probable love child of Angus Young and Chris DeGarmo. Wait. Can you imagine the super group with DeGarmo and Clark? Third - Def Leppard instantly became a cover band after Steve's passing. He wrote well over 80% of the stuff that made Def Leppard Def Leppard. No disrespect to Viv, but it's just fact that you cannot replace a harmony virtuoso with a guitar virtuoso. Looks good on paper, but the results, or lack of, speak for themselves.

Steven Maynard Clark, 'The Riffmaster' had it all, he was a genius who's loss to DL cannot be quantified, that they have toured off the music he penned and melodies, harmonies, hooks and riffing says it all. Post his incalculable loss DL have at best produced mediocre material. Live Ross Halfin spotted Steve very early in 78, he oozed cool, the Colorado gig I implore ALL to watch, his creme Les Paul with Kahler the best guitar I've seen. A true rock star. Icon. Legend.
