They are great mic's my friend. A friend of mine is restoring mine now. Inside it has some contacts for the ptt. They need some love and some sanding with a very fine sand paper. Also they need adjustment from time to time. When we key up, those contacts are pushed down in a sequence. If the sequence is not right, you might hear some cracking when you key up. I didn't know all these about this mic. If you scroll down the comments, a friend here explains it better. Thanks for watching..!!
Those are really good microphones. Maybe use pliers or vise grips to remove any screws that may be boogered up and put good ones in. Id change out the caps if it were me.
Yes they are my friend, to this day. I got some good reports on the modulation. And yes I should change those capacitors, you are right and the screws. This will be a different project for an upcoming video. Thank you for watching
I had all the Turners, the +3 was my favorite for base and the Minuteman D104 the full bar push to talk for the mobile. I currently have a Super Side Kick, but wish I kept my +3B as it sounded better on AM than the Super Side Kick. The +2 is great also
I have same microphone my late Uncle Bob gave me in 2004 before he past away, only thing had rewire tune forks to also tighten screws up plus clean forks up and put new cord microphone black one plus boot spring ! Only thing doesn't have lock plastic tab and had change Relay and Electric switch plus battery snapper! Mine has hard life and have used since 2019 ! Got find why my ground on modulation unless key up put finger near volume control tap knob and hope find why! Also Duracell battery last longer than other on 9 volt! On bottom by battery on switch should be on Electric for Magnum radio and Galaxy ! If got 1950's to 1977 base or mobile radio put switch on Relay because relay set and if microphone wire up for 4 pin Cobra or Uniden types and Midland or Sears are different wireing on 4 pin plugs setups !
Yes Andrew. Great tip. I saw the switch and I wasn't sure which position is the right one for my radio. I will try it and let you know. Thank you so much..!!!
@@ontariocbclub welcome on help also if want keep tune forks shine use 400 soft grip sandpaper too or older elders in CB radio land used say get brand new $20.00 dollars bill use paper to shine them like new if want hear clear click sounds from tune forks Lol then blow lighty on forks! Also if want clear sound and keep microphone element clean put thin tissue circle paper on too and stay clean for life! Just once month wash up tissue with water to! Also on Volume control on microphone keep working use 3 in 1 multi purpose oil with Q tip twist control knob sit with knob off! Keep from lose modulation and do monthly! Plus keep head screw on tight too and not lose or lose ground to microphone element on pick up! Those tips learned from late radio elder I knew years ago ! For best response on pick up modulation use radio mic gain at 1:00 postion and second dot on left side of Turner Plus 3 desk microphone and use more than dot if someone says turn up bit more to hear you better! Don't go 3/4 up on Turner Plus 3 desk mic because distortion voice or can blow Amplifier on electrical parts in circuit board!
@@AndrewHCann buddy, you are the best..!!! Thank you so much for the advice and the tips. Yes the modulation, sounds a bit dirty, I must lower the gain. Everything you said are right. I will take good care of this microphone, for sure..!!!
Blessed love to all, hi guys am looking for a CB Radio operator by the name John 53 from Toronto Canada, who can help me out please an thanks, am watching from Jamaica west Indies !!
53? are you sure? I am 63 from Toronto and I made 2 contacts with Jamaica West Indies before. One is with 1963 and the other is 007. I have them both on video here on my channel.
The microphone must be metal, a plastic microphone is garbage. Unfortunately. You have to respect what is left, it will probably never come back. I hope that in the new world that will probably come some time later, new metal microphones with equally good PTT switches will be created. We need to stop using disposable microphones and shoddy plastic microphone cables that break quickly and are stiff. Today we can say that either Astatic D104 or Turner 2+,3+ and there is no alternative. The rest of the base microphones are Chinese disposable ones. Shure 444D, 450II are also good, but they require a simple preamplifier, they are durable despite many years of use. They are such workhorses. They are good for SSB, in AM they perform worse, and indirectly in FM.
Unfortunately, nothing is made to last nowdays. The microphone did make it. A friend of mine cleaned the contacts on the ptt and the microphone works as it should now. At least 95% of the time it keys up ok and it sounds good. It wasn't in the best condition as you saw. Thank you for your comment, my friend.
best mike ever
Yes it is my friend. I am so glad I found one
Plain and simple this microphone is sooo good, no matter what radio you hookup too….
Best microphone ever!!!
I just got one on EBay to hook up to my 1979 vintage Kenwood TS-120S ham radio. Works great!
