- An other Pota (Parks on the air) video with my good friend Laird VE3 LKS. This time we brought a Kenwood TS680s. We are using a Wolf River coil antenna. The radio sounded and performed amazing. We made 26 contacts, 7 Park to Park, 15 States in about 12 minutes. We tested the LiPo battery and it did very good.

Great to see the Kenwood out getting some fresh air and contacts. I still have my TS-140 I bought used when I first got my license in 92. De KK4LBJ.
@@WaynePatrick The Kenwood worked amazingly good. Can’t beat the audio. I love Kenwood radios. I was having second thoughts when I was carrying it to the bench but when we turned it on we were like…. Wow!!! Thank you for watching my friend.

Thanks for another fun outing Nek! Your video is awesome as always. The old Kenwood sure sounded good and, apparently, had no issues getting out. We literally made a contact on our first call and then it got busy. Can't wait to do it again.

I had a 680S for a while. Fantastic little radio. Great receiver and I always got excellent audio reports. I wish I could have kept it but I only have room for so many lol.

...and this heavy Boat Anchor Radio is still one of the greatest Transceivers today for all kinds of operating Modes except the Digi Modes like FT-8 and such. These fantastic Radios got built to last. The TS-680s / 140s is a Keeper for sure. 73 de Uncle Günter across the Pond 💯👍🙋♂

A couple of times I have used my TS-440 for POTA. it works great!!
The 440 was my first ever HF radio 20 years ago. They are still running strong. Kenwood radios are awesome. I don't know why they stopped making them. Thank you for watching..!!

Is the band being so quiet (great signal to noise) due to the radio, the antenna, or just happened to be great band conditions ?
@@garyz5786 Great question. This radio was recently aligned and fine tuned. But it can be a combination of both the conditions and the radio.
@@ontariocbclub I would agree with Nek that it was probably "all the above". I had my G90 but we did not think to fire it up for a comparison. Will try to do that the next time.
Only 5min into this but it seems a/several coaxial dipoles (T2LT) for 10m through 20m utilizing a line thrown or cast over a 40' branch should be more effective and not take any longer to set-up.
@@furion.. I agree. Long wires are faster to set up. But a bit more noisy, what do you think?
I think that little micro antenna was kicking some ass LOL and I was just doing some calculating on a t2lt for 20 m and how it would appear on 17 15 12 and 10, and I think it might be tunable except perhaps 10 m it might see a very high 2x 1/2 wave SWR, or it may see it as a full wave and only be around 100 ohms, I'm just going to have to build one and try it.
