I loved it when she mouths "I've got to breathe" and she pushes out a few bubbles, after not really exhaling for most of the underwater singing scene. Like she's airless and soundless, sinking and not able to make herself heard by the person or situation. Another layer of meaning, and it looked super cool.
Love this. This was my adolescence and it’s bringing me back. If I remember correctly, Evanescence got really popular really quickly, but the industry didn’t think a female lead rock band would make it at the time, so there were a lot of fights over the music, her image, etc, so yes, she was surrounded by “demons” and fighting for her music. If you want explorations of her voice “my immortal” and “lithium” are haunting, but if you want badass rocker chick, my recommendation is “Call Me When You’re Sober.” Honestly, though, you can’t really go wrong with this band.
It's called symphonic metal. The perfect marriage of Amy's incredible vocals and her bands' hard 'grungie' backing. The band often appears live on stage with an orchestra. It's a match made in heaven.
This is one of the songs I sang SO MANY TIMES without knowing the lyrics (since I didn't know english back then), that even now I tend to sing nonsense when it plays xD I remember more my nonsense blabering than the actual lyrics.
Oh yeah good singers can shift their placement even within a sustained syllable and Amy Lee is _very_ good at what she does. She uses her voice almost like a violin, really playing with the intensity within each note and sort of sliding from one word to the next - her phrasing is so distinct and honestly, not easy to match bc damn it takes stamina! Speaking of: System of a Down! Serj is a fantastic vocalist who plays so much with tone and delivery - his cadence is wild. Lyrics and music never fail to deliver!
I am convinced that you'll like 'Nightwish'. They do what's called 'symphonic metal'. It sounds grand. It's basicly metal mixed with orcestra sounds (they do it electronicly tho). Their actual singer Floor Jansen has an outstanding voice and it reaches from opera tones to low husky growls. They had two other singers in the past and they were just as amazing. Nightwish did an an outstanding live performance of their song 'Ghost Love Score' at 2013 Wacken-festival (German metal festival). This performance would be the best entrance into their world in my opinion.
I like how they leave the lyrics open to interpretation. I always saw this one about the fight for fame and recognition. You see the stress and pressure making the press and fan alike seem like monsters. Even the makeup crew and her band mate. But you can apply it to school, peer pressure, relationships ect. Love them to bits. You Got to hear Lithium and Love goes on and on.❤
Love your reactions. Amy Lee is a rarely talented musician. She writes all the lyrics, melodies, harmonizes with herself and sings conveying so much emotions, that one can't stay untouched. I would suggest Lithium next. I think you'll also love Halestorm - I miss the misery or I am the Fire, Amy Lee is best friends with Lzzy Hale, the Halestorm singer. Thanks again for this. Rock on
Huge Evanescence fan here! Been listening for my whole life bc of my mom. This song has so many deep meanings. It's about the industry and the pressure of it. That band mate from the end got kicked out for "creative differences"
❤❤Watching Teddy fall in love with Amy Lee in real-time, just like we all once did, gives me all the feels. 🥰 She is such an angel and a unique vocal talent that this genre hadn't seen again until maybe Nightwish.
I heard this song is about mental diseases (and not a relationship like I thought initially). This gave the lyrics (and the video) a whole new meaning.
This song always hits. I was in a very traumatic marriage to a violent narcissist, and the lyrics just speak to me, and who i was (and what i was going thru) at that time.
I like the vocal harmonies she applies to her melodies, they are a treat Grew up on such music, so I easily forget that these songs are all about pain and suffering. I just headbang to them)
Ah, good ol' 2000s, so many memories for this song. Really appreciate your open-mindedness in confronting all of these new music genres for you, it feels like watching a child experience something completely new and just being fascinated by that experience :D As a rapper, I believe you might enjoy a certain band from India called "Bloodywood". They are an indian folk metal band and are mixing multiple different influences and musical flavours in their songs. Chronologically, "Machi Bhasad" would be the way to start or if you'd like to start with a newer song that hits hard af go with "Dana Dan". Anyways, looking forward to more content from you!
So there are a TON of different versions of Rock/Metal out there. This is Nu-Metal that was big in the late 90's early 2000's. But then you got metal core, death metal, black metal, just tons of different versions. If you are looking for something unique, check out a band called Imminence, they are amazing and the lead singer plays violin. Good blend of clean vocals and screams and the violin changes the game!
Teddy, please react to Evanescence "My Immortal" at some point. I'd love to see your reaction to it. Particularly the video as opposed to any live performance.
Other genres: hardcore, post hardcore, post punk, post rock, stoner metal, doom, gloom metal, death metal, black metal, the list goes on and on. Nu metal was really popular in the late 90s. I think it really started to form with KoRn, but then took a turn and had a LOT of rapping and electronic music or just a pretty quiet, low key beat during the verse and then "explodes" during the chorus. I put explodes in quotes there bc knowing other genres, it's still child's play compared to them. I was in high school during the time of nu metal and grew up with it and my tastes evolved as I grew older. But it's always nice to travel back down memory lane.
My guy, your reactions are some of the best. The obvious mind bending responses are the reasons I use vids like yours as an emotional outlet, just seeing people falling in love with new and fantastic music outside there comfort zone is priceless. Thank you and please continue the journey with pride good sir.
dude rock has so so so sooooooooo many subgenres I can't even begin to list them all 😂😂😂 only in metal we have like numetal, doom metal, symphonic metal, trash metal, glam metal, death metal, gothic metal, industrial metal.. and these are only the ones I'm remembering now by head then there's punk rock, pop punk, hardcore, pop rock, grunge, classic rock... its a WHOLE NEW WORLD my guy... welcome.
I don't know if you see comments on older videos, but in case you do, another phenomenal vocalist is Lizzy Hale of the group Halestorm. "I Get Off" was one of their bigger hits, and "The Familiar Taste of Poison" isn't as well known but has a different vibe and shows her range. 🖤
Loving these Evanescence reactions. Think I need to go listen to them for the next few days, it has been a while. Hope we get to see more reactions to them from you!
This album was on repeat for me throughout high school. My favorite songs are B sides.... Whisper and Imaginary. I'm so glad you are enjoying this rock path your on!
You asked what the subgenres of rock and metal are... that's a big question. old-school metal, classic metal, nu metal, heavy metal, death metal, hair metal, nerd metal, Classic rock, Soft rock, hard rock, pop rock, punk rock, gospel rock, glam rock, electro-rock, rock and roll, J-rock, K-rock, math rock, pirate rock, shungite, and all the rest
To me, this song is about getting out of a toxic relationship or a relationship with a narcissist. Waking up, being tormented and daily defeated by someone? sounds a lot like such a relationship that isn't worth keeping it up because it would harm ones self too much, but it's super hard to get out.
There's Soft Rock, stuff you hear in the elevator. Then Rock, example Phil Collins and Sting, Rap Rock example RUN DMC Walk This Way and Anthrax Bring The Noise, Hard Rock, Metal example Van Halen Def Lepeord. Then there's Heavy Metal example Ozzy Osbourne and Metallica. Then there's Dark Metal, slower heavy beats, Speed Metal super fast beats, and then Death Metal example Obituary and Entombed, sounds like scary Halloween music with guitars and growling. You already know about New Metal example Biohazard and Machine Head.
I just discovered your channel with your journey through metal and I can’t get enough! I’m watching you react to songs I’ve listened to a thousand times over decades, and you are showing me aspects of these songs that I had never considered… Watching the joy you are experiencing brings me a great deal of happiness. 😊 Keep it coming! P.S. You should check out Pantera, “Cemetery Gates” or “I’m Broken”
You might just shit your pants when you find out about Melodic Death Metal (See "in flames"), Symphonic metal (see "Nightwish"), Pirate metal (see "Alestorm"), Industrial metal (see "Fear factory"), and Power metal (see Rhapsody of Fire)... The list goes on and on... I think there's a documentary out there about the origins and evolution of metal, but even that is 20 years out of date now.
You HAVE to react to 'My Immortal'. It's one of those songs that you hear once and it sticks with you forever. It's a masterpiece that is just vague enough that everyone can relate to it.
I love Evanescence so much, Amy lee has such a powerful voice❤ I suggest you also check out The Pretty Reckless - 25, the singer's voice is amazing, it's a band that deserves more recognition. Trust me, I'm sure you'll love it^^
I've been in love with the band since I was 13 years old, and to this day I'm always moved by all the songs and English isn't my native language and the lyrics move me that way
Her with Seether as mentioned and she does a duet with Lizzy Hale thats also great. You mentioned Falling in Reverse.I didnt see Watch the World Burn. As a hip hop guy, you will probably dig that. 🔥
As another comment said you need to hear her with Seether. Its a ballad and duet wih her then BF. Great contrasting vocals and harmonies. THEN...go listen to a band called Apocalyptica. The lead singer of a band called Shinedown does vocals for them...but there is a surprise. The band has no guitars or bass. Just four cellists and a drummer. Its called symphonic metal or neoclassic metal. I think you'll especially enjoy it.
I just want to say that, I am really happy that you are open to experience new horizons. Whether you will like it or not you will become more at these.
Hey Teddy - If you haven't looked into it already, please check 'One day the only butterflies will be in your chest etc etc...' - collab between BMTH and Amy Lee - hauntingly beautiful - and their voices just blend seamlessly - perfect collab.
I have listened so much this band .I was like 15-16 years old when they got famous and I have waited on radio when this song and other of her song to come . React on My Immortal & Amy Lee & Seath -Broken
I'm born on late 80s and i remember blasting Evanescence on my Walkman, my ears were bleeding loll i love Amy so much! I' waiting for your reaction to my Immortal tho
I remember so well when Evanescence made it big, so many female rock fans just wanted to BE Amy Lee. Her vocals are stunning. I'd recommend you check out a band called Halestorm. Their song "I Am The Fire" is amazing, vocally and lyrically. Lzzy Hale has what I'd call the female classic rock voice. But with a defining edge.
Nu-metal is a rap/rock hybrid that originated in the nineties. Trying to sort out the genres and sub-genres is just exhausting, actually. Just try lots of your followers suggestions and figure out what you like. I think you might like Rage against the Machine “Bulls on Parade”. If you want killer female vocals try Nightwish “Romanticide”
Absolutely love your reactions!! Not gonna lie I binge watched quite a few! So glad I found your channel!! I really think you should react to Falling In Reverse- Carry On!! I think you would absolutely love it!! Ronnie did like 98% off all of it by himself, most of the instruments are played by him and I think he said there’s like 170ish-190ish separate tracks layered on top of each other to make that song!! And not gonna lie I cried the first time I heard it lol, it’s a really beautiful song! It hits deep!! Even if you don’t do a reaction I definitely recommend you listen to it!! Only thing, there’s no video to it, he wasn’t originally going to release it but the fans were asking for something so he decided to release it
Good to see you around this rock zone!!! You will have good company for this travel :D :D And yeah, I'm STAY too, but my bases are in rock music, Evanescence, Linkin Park, SOAD, Korn!! Can wait to see you dig into that!! Thanks for react!!
Teddy, Teddy, you've stumbled upon one of The most iconic voices of the 21st century! Amy Lee is a rock goddess...period. Check out the gallery of Goth beauty that is Evanescence!! 🤘
hey, man. it's called NU-metal because of the fusion of metal, hip-hop and electronic music. a lot of bands have two vocalists (singer and rapper) and a DJ
Nu Metal has elements of hip hop grooves and beats with some bars added in as well. The electronic elements usually fall into the category of Industrial.
I'd like to add Lithium to the suggestion box, that song makes me so emotional and I love it so much. Her voice just makes me wanna cry, it's so beautiful.
Love love love your reactions!! Evanescence is amazing such a CLASSIC 🤘 please check out a band called "In this Moment". Another great band with such a killer female lead ❤️ also "Lacuna Coil" with another female lead from Italy! Both huge bands I think you'll enjoy 😁😁
My immortal has the potential to bring a tear to your eye, lyrically, musically and her voice is just amazing, this song is iconic
FACTS
it was also mostly written by ben moody
You need to listen to Floor Jansen (with Nightwish) ❤
But it's gotta be the full band version! The build up is worth it
Yes!
I loved it when she mouths "I've got to breathe" and she pushes out a few bubbles, after not really exhaling for most of the underwater singing scene. Like she's airless and soundless, sinking and not able to make herself heard by the person or situation. Another layer of meaning, and it looked super cool.
You need seether featuring Amy Lee it's unreal
Broken
Yes! Agreed
Oh goodness yes
Oof yes, broken is that girl
You beat me to it!
Amy Lee’s voice is freaking amazeballs. Loved her when this came out and it still holds up. ✌️💜
Amy's Voice literally gives me chills every. single. time i hear it! she's really insanely talented
I'm a HipHop head and this is one of the greatest songs on one of the greatest albums ever recorded. My last Breath is 🔥 too.
My Immortal is such a touching emotional song that you need to check out. One I always go back and listen to.
This is one of the songs I sang SO MANY TIMES without knowing the lyrics (since I didn't know english back then), that even now I tend to sing nonsense when it plays xD I remember more my nonsense blabering than the actual lyrics.
Sounds like me whenever I rap or sing along to Korean music so I completely get it hahaha

I hope at some point (going through the full playlist) he gets to System, cause they are always a ride.

You have to stuff Nightwish (by the way, they're past the zenith) and Floor everywhere 😁
Best live performance ever !!
@@mirekhalek2948 of course! :D they are awesome!
Oooo...yes. Break into the power/symphonic metal scene.
Gotta get some Unleash The Archers and Amaranthe in there as well.
Fun Evanescence fact: Founded in 1994 by Amy Lee (The lead vocalist) when she was a mere 13 years old.....
I like how they leave the lyrics open to interpretation.
I always saw this one about the fight for fame and recognition. You see the stress and pressure making the press and fan alike seem like monsters. Even the makeup crew and her band mate.
But you can apply it to school, peer pressure, relationships ect.

Fire reaction 🔥
You should definitely take a look to Evanescence's "Everybody's fool" and "Lithium". 🙌
Definitely Lithium!
Love your reactions. Amy Lee is a rarely talented musician. She writes all the lyrics, melodies, harmonizes with herself and sings conveying so much emotions, that one can't stay untouched. I would suggest Lithium next.

Amy is a freaking powerhouse. Try her performances of Synthesis live. Amy with an orchester is just unreal.

Amy Lee’s voice it’s something else ❤
Please do: Freak on a leash- Korn Umplugged ft Amy Lee
Amy Lee is THE QUEEN. Her voice always gives me full body goosebumps! Please more of Evanscence! Somebody’s Fool!
Symphonic metal is one of those sub-genres I love. Namely Nightwish.
I like the vocal harmonies she applies to her melodies, they are a treat

Missing is a feeler, and an underdog track from Evanescense that is just perfect. Gotta see you react to that one!
EVANESCENSE IS ANOTHER ICONS OF THE MUSIC.... the best musics ever 80´90´...... and some fews of 2000....

My immortal evanescence
Next must be My Immortal!!
Always love your reactions ❤
Rock you got, Hard Rock, Rock and Roll, Classic Rock, Punk Rock, Emo, Screamo, Skate Punk, Pop punk, and Glam Rock.
You asked what the subgenres of rock and metal are... that's a big question.
old-school metal, classic metal, nu metal, heavy metal, death metal, hair metal, nerd metal, Classic rock, Soft rock, hard rock, pop rock, punk rock, gospel rock, glam rock, electro-rock, rock and roll, J-rock, K-rock, math rock, pirate rock, shungite, and all the rest
"My Immortal" needs to be your next Evenescence song. Seriously, it will change your life.
To me, this song is about getting out of a toxic relationship or a relationship with a narcissist. Waking up, being tormented and daily defeated by someone? sounds a lot like such a relationship that isn't worth keeping it up because it would harm ones self too much, but it's super hard to get out.

It seems like her video represents her relationship with her fan base between who she really is and what they want from her
Any Lee has the most intoxicating voice and you could drown in her eyes. Simply amazing.
The going under dress has to be the coolest thing she's ever worn 😍😍😍😍😍

I think there's a documentary out there about the origins and evolution of metal, but even that is 20 years out of date now.
Ive been lucky enough see them in concert last year and she sounds even more beautiful in person and for my first concert it was magical
You HAVE to react to 'My Immortal'. It's one of those songs that you hear once and it sticks with you forever. It's a masterpiece that is just vague enough that everyone can relate to it.
Teddy, I love your reactions to rock/metal music, I really like how surprised you are every time when you listen to for you new bands .

I just want to say that, I am really happy that you are open to experience new horizons. Whether you will like it or not you will become more at these.
You NEED to do 'My immortal' hands down, easily, by miles and miles the best performance I've ever heard from Amy and such a beautiful song over all!

Love this. Everybody’s fool and going under are my favorites
They’re also considered alternative metal and gothic metal
Love your reaction to this! Amy lee has such a powerful voice❤ please react to more by her 🙏
Nu Metal is a genre that is a fusion of different genres with Rock/metal
I'm born on late 80s and i remember blasting Evanescence on my Walkman, my ears were bleeding loll i love Amy so much! I' waiting for your reaction to my Immortal tho
All these years later and I still get chills from this song I love amy Lee 😍 she did a ft with Lindsay Sterling and it is AMAZING
Dude I have been a metal head since 1984 and I LOVE “new metal” right along with “old metal”.
Love Evanescence!!
Your ear will explode if you listen ''my heart is bronken''
Nu-metal is a rap/rock hybrid that originated in the nineties. Trying to sort out the genres and sub-genres is just exhausting, actually. Absolutely check out "Everybody's Fool" by them. It's great and one of my top. Next to Missing and Tourniquet...well... actually most of their songs.

Although you are not some kind of musical expert but you manage to catch the emotions and describe vocals and music really well)
I was hoping you'd do this one! It's one of the songs that introduced me to the band when I was in my teens.
This is one of the best reactions I've seen!... Amy Lee's voice is amaaaazing...!
Teddy - Evanescence “The Change”. That one will get you!
that song is so underrated.
She’s a classically trained opera singer… that’s why you’re like „how is she doing that“
You should react to the Evanescence Synthesis live tour, her voice is stunning in those performances
Nu Metal has elements of hip hop grooves and beats with some bars added in as well. The electronic elements usually fall into the category of Industrial.
Evanescence - Bring Me To Life (live) 🙏🇦🇷❤️
How glad I would be to have never listened to rock and now just like teddy enjoy and marvel listening to them for the first time....
You could do the reverse and get into rap? 👀😂
