"Back then we used to dance........with the opposite sex"....🤣🤣🤣🤣
Boom Bap 101 I love it, teach the children the truth.
What's up man!!!! Thanks!!!!!!!!
exactly, teach us some truth
@D DE7IL what is your point?
They will never understand.
as a "type beat" producer, god this is so valuable. Probably the best "tutorial" i've ever watched I kinda have just been throwing together whatever but now that i understand that the same drum sounds can make such different emotions,,,, oooohh boy i'm excited :)
Much appreciated!!!! Glad it helped you!
Do you ✌🏻
Ah, I loved all the original hip-hop, I grew up in London UK, and bought all my US imports from Groove Records in Greek Street, Soho. - UTFO, Duke Bootee, Marley Marl, BDP, Spoonie G, Schooly D, EPMD, DJ Red Alert and DJ Cheese, - ah the memories. - Beauty and the Beat was my favourite label, - Z3 MCs, Point Blank MCs, Word of Mouth and DJ Cheese, - Duke Bootee always had the tuffest sound.
Graffiti, samplers and DJ battles at the DMC championships, - what's happened to this world, was it the drugs, gangster rap and war?
Love to ALL, feel no hate
Edit: I guess social media and identity politics don't help either, - more people need to learn how to express themselves creatively..
Love your channel btw, always appreciated.
What's up Ian!!!! Thanks for sharing man!!! Much appreciated!!!!!
This is awesome. As someone who is much more familiar with making trap beats I’ve found it a lot harder than I thought to make boom bap. One that ive learned from watching videos like this is that kick seems to be like a lot more repetitive but in the right way if that makes sense. I also like how you showed so many different patterns and explained when they were most prominent. Great video keep it up, definitely earned a subscription from me 🤙🏻
Thanks bro, i love watching your videos as i am starting to make my own boom bap after spending countless hours listening to it
Awesome video. Love hearing your knowledge about the times and understanding of the beats.
Thanks for sharing the knowledge. It's impressive how well you can relate the beats to songs off the top of your head. Thanks for the history lesson 🖖
Dope I've used and heard these patterns and the infinite amount of variations thereof for many years it's cool to see them broken down like this
I'm working on my first drumloop pack, and this is very helpful, ty!
i am following and jamming along every / all 16 drum beats with 3 different things ,my mpc live 2 pads, the pads on my akai mpk mini , and the keys on my akai MPK mini , trying to Learn every beat and i am enjoying it also , the enjoyment inspires to me learn . ,
Super helpful. I’m a classically trained musician but I do like rapping to a good beat 3:38
I love your content mane. Thank you for your contributions to the music
Not often I hear an Octatrack doing Boom Bap. Great descriptions of what an MC would do on the beat. Respect!
What up Bruv!!! Thanks man!! Love your channel!
Love your videos
Thanks for making this
I only enjoy making boom bap tracks these days thanks for the info
I’m buying my mpc x this weekend and I’m watching every episode. I grew up playing saxophone guitar bass. I’m excited to try my dream!
Man this is so inspiring! Great to hear that you're excited to try your dream :) Would be amazing to hear some of your works, I subscribed. Wish you all the best.
Great patterns! Thanks for the video.
Thank you 🙏🏾 for the history my Gee
SUCH A GOOD VIDEO MAN THANK YOU!
Thanks Brotha, this is really helpful! Ready to make some boom bap this week for sure
What's up Marcus!!!! Than man!!!!!!
Mate, im new to your channel but I'm loving what I've seen so far, your content is spot on, there's not alot dedicated to boom bap and your channel is a great resource geared towards the genre 🙌
Much appreciated!!! Thanks for finding my work!
I like how you told that it starts with just a kick and a snare.😊
I love boom bap so much! I just put krs one on the other day and my God that minimal rhythm with those short crunchy samples just makes my my heart swell up 😄
I think dj premier might be my favorite beatsmith, period. Everytime I would hear a song that made me think, "godDAMN, what is this!?" It was Premier 90% of the time
dude ... KRS-1 all day ....
Rza
Premier is the God of boom bap to me
Premier...? Lol You meant to to say J Dilla... the boom bap wizard..
9th wonder, nujabes and fat jon have some slappin beats too, I would also reccomend listening to mf dooms beat tapes :) hope you dudes find something nice!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Much appreciated!!!!! Thanks for watching!!!!!!
Thanks for the history. Bless!
What's up Cecilia!!!! Much appreciated!!!!!!
This was so entertaining. You did a great job describing the differences in the beats! -C
Much appreciated!!!!!
Great vid!. One of those drum patterns were act like you want it from Black Moon.
I knew right from the jump on that first beat, it’s Halftime - Nas
Your explanation sound like a rap for me bro. Awesome!
This is a great video bro
This Video was so incredible helpful for me and my production, i actually want to ask you if there are more common Boom Bap patterns and if so, if you would like to make another Video of it.
Also, some simple graphics of 2 to 4 Bars of the patterns would make it way more easy to follow.
Great job! 💥💥❤️
THIS IS PERFECT i love it thank you so much! um abraço do brasil!
Congratulations on the 18.000 subscribers 👍
What's up Peter!!!! Much appreciated!!!! Thanks for being here for it!!!!!
thanks men! nice video :)
hey man , good video !!
Hip Hop ain't dead....it's alive and well. Everything evolves and eventually revolves. Btw not sure if you did but you should mention the tempo on each beat. Jmo
🔥 once again 👊🏿
What up Anselm!!!!!! Much appreciated!!!!!!
VERY VERY WELL DONE MY G ! …. Rome JD….BOOGIE BOYS (“A FLY GIRL”)
Great vid! I really enjoyed this one..by the way..the original Peewee Herman beat comes from the beginning of Melvin Bliss - Synthetic Substitution
I remember the girls used to do The Bus Stop! 😂 I miss the first half of the 90's
Magnifique.
Man, i was hoping to see the sequence patterns. Maybe someday you could add to end of video. Thx!
"We used to dance with the opposite s3x" the good ol days
What Christopher!!! That line has triggered and entertained so many people! Didn't even think of it that way. Lol
@@TheDaydreamSound everything trigger people now
@@christopherlewis2194 Yep!
great vid thanks
Thankls Clavel!!!! Much appreciated!!!!
ngl... i like 94 more then 88 but it would be fun to see 2 people that know way more about hip hop than i to debate which year was better.
Is it possible to get an overview over the parameters like velocity, swing or beats of these loops? I try to recreate them on my SP404 but cant get them right yet. I really enjoy your videos by the way and come back to them here and then :)
The last pattern...was that the one in Take it Personal (Gangstarr)? Love the videos!
Thanks for this, it's difficult to find specific information when you lack the vocabulary to find it.
amazing and unique tutorial - super progressive - thank you!
Love it! Thank you for the education. Just out of curiosity what are some of your favorite boom bap records or artists?
What's up Chris!!!!! Thanks man!!!! I'll probably do a video on some of my favorites in the future!!!!
@@TheDaydreamSound please do!!

Quest love beat style
awesome video
Much appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
great video, you get a sub!
Much appreciated!!!!
I know we can use our ears but would be cool to see where to put the kick and snare in the 16 step sequence. Thanks for this tip!
What's up Ranger!! Thanks for reaching out!! This really isn't that type of channel. It pretty much goes against that sort of thing. In my experience that's a never ending story. The more rudimentary things you show the more you realize that not everyone is meant to be a musician. This channel focuses on Samplers, Musicianship, Music History and Sound design. I do have to explain the nature of this channel quite a bit and most think it's tutorial based. No disrespect or condescendence intended at all.
@@TheDaydreamSound I better understand better your channel now. Just rewatched your video 4 times. I agree with having a tool to show the steps but at the same time I paused the video and tried to redo the beats. Then redoing them without video days after. I think its actually a good way to make it sync in and feel the vibe better as not going to something to aligned to the grid. I thought maybe some people like me would like some export of loops we could hear and practice ourselves with. There are a lot of subtilities we dont get in just a couple bars and have to rewatch multiple times. Anyway, thanks for bringing some history to it. I really like having context brought in and better understand eras.
thought always hihat was more steady 1/8 or 1/16 without quantization?
I like this
Thanks for watching man!
nice
Can you please put chapters on each beat/pattern it would help tremendously, thank you for the video tho.💯👊🏾🧘🏾♂️🤼🏿♂️✌🏾🙌🏾💪🏾💪🏾🔥🎵🎵💎💰😎😤
With lo-fi on the rise, I hope people use this channel as their bible
Bragadocious 🔥
I remember styzo 🔥🔥🔥
Hi, at 10:54 you named a song ? "pp germen" it´s? greetings
This video deserves to be in the goddamn Smithsonian
whats the octatrack that you use?
Boombapology!
May i be allowed to catch up the idea and play theese 16patterns on a drum-computer?
Would of course link you (nevermind i‘m a nobody)
Nobody knows this.
Nobody! Except for me as far as I know.
The absolute first recording of the boom bap drum pattern
(Based on the first pattern you played)
Is Sam &Dave “Hold on I’m comin”. 1966.
Which was probably played by the same drummer on “Tramp” by Otis Redding (1967).
Tramp is probably the record that that was truncated down to…
Da boom boom bap
Da boom boom bap.
From the original
Boom bap da boom boom bap.
When producers looped it up.
But “hold on” (1966)
Did it first.
The groove on that song, with the UN truncated loop, is so pocket!
Especially with horns skipping the one and hitting on the two three.
It’s pronounced when it gets to the bridge….
“Reach out to me-
For satisfaction yeah”
Pure 1966 boom bap!
I challenge anyone to find a record with that beat before 1966.
Doesn’t exist.
Update.
The drummer that invented the boom bap pattern is most likely Alan Jackson Jr from Stax records.
He was with Stax from 1940 to 1975.
I doubt if he wasn’t on the main sessions.
Hold on- soul man- etc.
If that’s the drummer then we need to honor him the same way we do Clyde Stubblefield.
Here’s a cover: search-
Al Jackson Jr drum cover “ hold on I’m coming“ Sam and Dave
What Bpm would these be in ?
What's up!!! I don't know but it's easy to count it out.
@@TheDaydreamSound I appreciate the response. I've listened to this video over 100 times about. There's no other videos that demonstrate basic boom bap beats like this. I gotta learn how to count bpms tho
@@bigestbiggy8214 it is 100 bpm

Beats a little fast for 80s boom bap
Right..........
Boombap patterns are pretty simple to create but if the drum kits are not right it won't sound authentic it's an art getting the right sounds...ever tried making boombap on a preset drum machine it sounds awful..that's why sample based drums are so important
'Back then we used to dance. you know, with the opposite sex'.
I'm the prince uh bel air u look at me funny ima rip awff yo hair.
Man I really dont care. I don't get up early I smoke weed in my sleep better not hear u speak.
Boom.
Your spits gotta be understood too. No mumbling allowed in the 90s they murk yo boiii
Dont be posting beats bro. Makes me wanna spit and ppl around me at the train station think I'm crazy.
I peeped how he said "back in the day we used to dance...with the opposite sex." These days they dancing and doing everything with the same sex. Smh. This world is so backwards and messed up now.
There were always people dancing with the same sex, bro. The only reason you see more of it is that its accepted now.
@@travis3407 which is sad. That same sex stuff was going on way back during the bible days.
You insecure as hell
@@masaaguilar8126 your comment made no sense at all. You must be one of the "backwards" ones since you got offended.
i dance with my brothers and sisters of this earth LOL ii am not speaking in terms of sexual orientation at all , its ok to dance , and dance with friends no matter which gender one happens to be , reply to this comment anyone who agrees with me ! PEACE
88 BPM works for me. I hope this comment helps y'all out.💯👊🏾✊🏾💪🏾🤼🏿♂️🧘🏾♂️😎✌🏾
