I heard this in my teens a struggling heroin addict, it stuck with me for ever....I'm now a newly divorced 47 Yr old man trying my hardest to see the horizon of life as I sit alone in my 1 bedroom flat. I've progressed once & I shall grow again 🙏❤️ but man it's a weary journey I can tell you....
This, and In The Bleak Midwinter (Holst version) are to me about the greatest melodies with lyrics ever done in human history. The music has such purity of melody and intention. Who cannot be soothed, succored, comforted, and uplifted by this music of beauty.
Bingo! You hit the bullseye 🎯. I wrote down the lyrics I found all the verses in the internet. A pastor wrote the lyrics ... Richard Hutchins in 1761. Elizabeth Poston is credited with the melody--pure, sweet, perfect. Public domain. I'm singing it all the time and dream of teaching youth this and other carols to go caroling next December.
@@marywickstrom9917 Hi Mary, are you going caroling this December...which is now. Yes, this song, and Holly and the Ivy, and In the Bleak Midwinter...all great. Of course many of the songs of Messiah...Handel is my kindred spirit. 1761 as you mentioned...just two years after Handel passed away. Another good song is 'Past Three O'clock...on a cold frosty morning" sigh
Something about this song gives me so much comfort! I listen to it when ever I'm feeling stressed, or if I ever have a bad day at school. I just listen to thier beautiful voices, and think about the words they're saying and somehow I feel....loved. It's amazing. They're so talented.
1993, those boys will all be about 40 yrs old plus now, the bass section in their 50,s. Superb piece, life waits for no one and melts away, like teardrops in the rain.
Prayer: Dear God, in the darkness of this season, we look for your light. In the cold, we look for the warmth of your near presence. Oh God, who turns the clock of the seasons in your hand, be near to us in every season of the soul, we pray. Just as you were there in the ebullience of the Spring, the sunshine of the Summer, and the golden glow of Autumn, may you be here now in our Winter too. May we worship you with heart and soul and mind and strength this day. Amen Music: Jesus Christ the Apple Tree - Poston
Jesus Christ the Apple Tree The tree of life my soul hath seen Laden with fruit and always green The tree of life my soul hath seen Laden with fruit and always green The trees of nature fruitless be Compared with Christ the applle tree His beauty doth all things excel By faith I know but ne'er can tell His beauty doth all things excel By faith I know but ne'er can tell The glory which I now can see In Jesus Christ the apple tree. For happiness I long have sought And pleasure dearly I have bought For happiness I long have sought And pleasure dearly I have bought I missed of all but now I see 'Tis found in Christ the apple tree. I'm weary with my former toil Here I will sit and rest a while I'm weary with my former toil Here I will sit and rest a while Under the shadow I will be Of Jesus Christ the apple tree. This fruit does make my soul to thrive It keeps my dying faith alive This fruit does make my soul to thrive It keeps my dying faith alive Which makes my soul in haste to be With Jesus Christ the apple tree.
Ohh I didn't knew small kids sang this... This is so beautiful. I have this song downloaded in my phone and I sleep listening to this. It's so calming. It feels like from heaven. I am happy I discovered this song. ❤❤❤
Jesus Christ is my apple tree! So simple, yet brings me so much joy with so little effort on my part and even more when I put more effort in. Our Stake choir is singing this tonight for adult session and I can't get the song out of my head.
Amen. This hymn has a special meaning to me. Once you have beheld the beauty of Christ who dwells within you, you will never be the same. Seek him in the silence of the flesh and mind. Look deep within and gaze upon the Invisible One. I know many Hiltys among the Amish.
Its a beautiful metaphor: Song of Songs 2:3 As an apple-tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. Under its shadow I delighted to sit, and its fruit was sweet to my taste. Jesus Christ is truly everything to the soul that loves Him! In this vein, 'Union and Communion' by Hudson Taylor is excellent.
I have about 6 recordings of it, all by different choirs. It is a beautiful song, not necessarily needing to be sung just at Christmas time. It is a song that can be sung at any time of the year. A song to sing when one feels lost, despondent, but also for joy about the beauty that is all around us, but often overlooked through/by all the turmoil, and strife, and disasters our beautiful planet and it's living things are enduring. 🙂❤🎼🎵🎶
Jesus Christ the Apple Tree is about him bringing life to sin starved people. Just like an apple is good nourishing food, Jesus nourishes his people. That is what the carol is about.
The first little fellow looks like "Harry Potter Goes to Choir." :-) I love this unusual piece - I have a beautiful version on a James Galway Christmas CD I've had for years. These young singers just give me goosebumps. Wonderful.
I know what you mean...I think this is by far the loveliest recording I've heard of this piece. Part of it may have to do with the fact this recording is a half step lower than the others.
When you pair this text with Adam Lay y bounden and you contemplate them in each other’s light, of course both in the light of the scriptures Genesis and John most overtly, the theological vision is absolutely stunning.
Should you wish to hear one even more beautifally performed, get a copy of either the video or the CD of "In Search of Angels" a documentary created for PBS in the 1990's. It will take a day to get the hair on your arms to lie down...truly ethereal!
"...whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." Phil. 4:8 that would be this song and these voices.
You will find this carol on the new "Christmas at King's" double CD (VTDCD 933). Just £10 for 50 carols, directed by Willcocks, Ledger and Cleobury, Wonderful performances and superbly remastered recording - not to be missed.
Thanks for this. I know it's traditionally sung at Christmas or Advent, but I think it would make the most beautiful Good Friday piece. The veneration of the cross accompanied by this? Lovely.
lol my choir teacher when he was a kid got to sing with the Vienna Boys Choir once. He said they were little brats. But I'll assume Kings choir is different :D
If you left a comment that was inappropriate, it should be removed. I have seen too many people leaving ugly comments on other people's videos just to be mean, not because they believe it in some way serves the cause of freedom of speech.

You will keep growing and continue to flourish. Just as you have before

@@katherinyu9346 Think " about 40 " is a fair enough guess!?. Lovely rendition anyway.
All I can say after hearing this is praise Jesus Christ. As all art does, thank you for bringing me closer to God.

"For happiness I long have sought, and pleasure dearly I have bought" - what a deep and beautiful expression of a sinner's contrition.
This is one of my all time favorites. So pure and beautiful.

Absolutely beautiful ❤️
what a lovely composer Elizabeth Poston is.
I felt the urge to hear this song today. This is a beautiful version.
Very lovely music...May our Lord Jesus Christ be praised and glorified. May we walk in His care and loving kindness.
thank you, sir 😇
Beautiful carol... fills me with hope
His beauty doth all things excell.....
Wonderful arrangement and performance of this moving piece. Sublime harmonies.
My family knew Elizabeth Poston... we have her children's song book signed for us... I absolutely love this piece; it's really beautiful.
he's good! that octave leap is hard, and he keeps absolutely in tune.
So beautiful, just like chiming bells. Pure voices praising God.
Jesus Christ the Apple Tree
The tree of life my soul hath seen

This fruit does make my soul to thrive

Peace love forgiveness let's not forgot that the lord so loved us he gave us his only begotten son
Blissfull!
I used to sing on the Cantoris side of St Paul's Cathedral, Melbourne. (Australia)
Thanks for posting this, there are very few recordings of it. One of the nicest carols of all

Sublime and so full of patience.
Heavenly rendition!!!
Beautiful ❤
This is great. It's so simple - and the way they sing it is perfect...
I haven't heard this carol in a long time, but this is beautifully done!
This was truly perfect.
Our sons were in Alabama Boychoir years ago and sang this song, which brings tears of joy to our eyes.
Fabulous recording. Privately I like it more than the recent recordings.
Lovely. My group in Maine will be singing this.
Which group? I'm in Maine...
Beautiful...singing in a beautiful chorus is a nearly spiritual experience...and this one is gorgeous.
I can't stop listening to this song! Unbelievably beautiful.
Amen 🙏

Magnificent
How beautiful, i'm singing this with my girls choir at the moment - the sound difference is interesting.
This song is absolutly beautiful, I love it so much.
Thank you for sharing! Can't get enough of these "angel voices!!"
A lovely rendition of a beautiful carol. Makes the season bright!
Ohhh, I just want to hug the little one at 1:44!!! He looks so solemn and adorable!! And the tune is lovely.
such beauty.
+Geraldine McDermott In many ways.
wonderful.
This is so so beautiful. Thank you.
Absolutely love this song.
One of my favorites when I still sang choral music.
I've loved this anthem since I was a child. My Mum used to play a recording of it on Christmas morning. Glorious, thanks for posting.

Amazing. I like hearing this on Christmas.
I know what you mean...I think this is by far the loveliest recording I've heard of this piece. Part of it may have to do with the fact this recording is a half step lower than the others.
Yes - When singing along, it was easier, wasn’t it :-)
wow, this was filmed even before I was born!
Reminds me of my days as a choirboy, I only wish I'd had the chance to sing with this group.
May God guide you well through life, little ones.

They sound so much better than when I was in high school and a bunch of screechy, teenage sopranos did it.
Nothing sounds as good as an all boys choir.
Precious ♡♡♡
All i can say about this is... WOW!!!!
Such a simple construction - intervals of 3rds , 5ths and octaves.
These boys are so pretty. You know what I mean? Their voices, their clean appearance...it's refreshing.

You can't beat a good Granny Smith.
music for a troubled soul
Just to note, this song is more of a philisophical song than religious. I love it even though I am a firm Buddhist. :)

When the apple tree's on fire
I saw it as an Advent Song
