  • Welcome back to the Spinning Sara Channel. In this episode, we talk about support spinning basics. Getting a leader started, drafting (my way), and joins. We got some asmr spinning sounds and just a relaxing time of spinning with me, Spinning Sara. It’s not a short video, as I wanted you to be able to spin along with me, if you want.
    In this video you will see the following:
    Woodland Handcrafts support spindle.
    Woodland Handcrafts spindle bowl.
    Woodland Pixie 12 days of Christmas fiber.
    Nail polish is Venus Flytrap from Mooncat.
    Heart stamps on nails from Kads Nail Art, plate Festival 014.
    Chair is a Poäng from IKEA.

    I said it in the last video but will say it again. I am so happy to see you back. I rewatch your videos all the time when i need a refresher when i don't spin for a while. I LOVE THIS FROM ABOVE ANGLE ! My supported spindle has been collecting dust cause i couldn't get the hang of it but seeing the video from this angle things clicked in my head. I can't wait to give it another go and give my little Turkish spindle a rest for a bit ❤

    This video is so helpful! I've been trying to learn support spindling for a while and I was doing ok at park and draft but it just didn't feel quite right. Seeing your method of spinning and drafting makes so much sense and the angle is perfect.

    Hi Sara, A Very Happy New Year to you and your Family. 🎉⚘️⚘️
    I hope you're OK xx ❣️❣️❣️
    Thankyou so much for sharing this video. 😊😊
    I was gifted a Support Spindle and struggled with the drafting for a Leader. Also find making a butterfly hard to do, but watching how you do it I'm sure I'll be able to draft and make the butterflies will be a lot easier.
    Thankyou so much for sharing your expertise too. 🌟🌟🌟
    Hope you have a Wonderful Week 🌞☀️
    Happy Spinning Fibre Friend 🎡🐑🥰
    Take care and stay safe

    I loved this video! The angle is amazing, i love it being a "spin with me" video and being able to see what you do as you chat. It was so relaxing and informative! I have recently been learning drop spindle, I don't do support spindle... Yet 😂 But i have loved this video. Thank you for spending time with us, we loved spending time with you!

    You get into such wonderful details and technical bits that I have learned more from the first 8 minutes than several hours of other videos and podcasts 🤯 can't wait to practice what I'm learning!

    I really enjoy my support spindle spinning. I was always embarrassed though because I am not a continuous spinner and felt I was doing it "wrong " even though I get a good yarn. I will not be embarrassed now! Thank you 😊

    • @SpinningSara
      @SpinningSara  6 місяців тому

      Aww. I’m so sorry you’ve felt you were spinning the wrong way! Imo, there is no wrong way, especially if you are creating the yarn you want! Happy spinning and thanks for watching.

      Thanks fire you detailed and useful video - I loved it. I agree with others, surely if you are getting a desirable yarn, c who cares if your spinning is continuous or not? However, I've been trying to develop that technique, but I need to practise further! Sometimes too, I think the spindle makes a difference, one that spins longer makes it easier

    Great, detailed video! I personally just learned to spindle spin after a couple years of wheel spinning. I’d love to learn more about continuous spinning.

      I’d recommend watching some videos by Fleegle. Just search Fleegle spins supported and watch her. She is amazing, but I don’t spin that way.

    I only support spin from rolags bc any other fiber prep annoys me right now. I've only just got the hang of support spinning Christmas day 2023. I gasped when you pulled the silk slub out. I love slubby neppy yarns 😂

    • @SpinningSara
      @SpinningSara  3 місяці тому

      I do too!! Slubby yarns are lovely!! However, that piece was a knot of sari silk and I was just NOT feeling it. Haha. Congrats on the new spinning obsession and thanks for watching!!

    Thanks for the tips about building the cop. That's a skill I want to get more organized with, I will try the close-together wraps that are tighter.
    I don't like to draft off the spindle tip, it feels... fragile? and I like being able to feel the twist in my right hand. So I let the spindle stay in the circle of my hand. But sometimes I forget I'm holding it and focus too much on drafting and drop it haha.
    I also do the "spin off the bottom and flip" thing, but I do notice sometimes the fiber supply will split and the top isn't getting incorporated in, or the twist will go so far on the bottom that it'll get... stuck? on pulling from one section of the bottom and then my supply gets disorganized and tangly. Maybe I need to be holding less? I notice your top to bottom is maybe an inch wide, that might help me.

    • @SpinningSara
      @SpinningSara  5 місяців тому +1

      I always diz my fiber so it thins it out quite a bit. It isn’t foolproof but it should help with the fiber supply splitting like that.

  • @Altusiam
    @Altusiam 6 місяців тому

    I continuous spin! Although some fiber blends make that harder, easiest to do from the fold for me. Not many left handed drafters! I draft with my left hand and everyone I know drafts with their right😅

    • @SpinningSara
      @SpinningSara  6 місяців тому

      Me too!! Everyone is always right handed spinners.
      I’ve never tried to continuous spin from the fold. I’ll have to try that!!

    I just started to learn how to spin supported and I am having fun! All though, I do think I'm not using the best fiber. I heard that if you use a batt or a rolag, it will be easier to draft. I think I've been using comb top. Its hard to long draw.

    • @SpinningSara
      @SpinningSara  6 місяців тому

      Congrats on learning to support spin! You are correct, combed top is better for spinning worsted where carded fiber is better for woolen spinning, which is what support spinning is all about. You can fake it though. I have another video on making fauxlags, go check that out and I’d imagine you will be doing swimmingly in no time!

    Thank you Sara, I learn so much from you. I want to get a supported spindle and bowl. Do you have any recommendations?
    Can you use a Turkish spindle to spin supported?

    • @SpinningSara
      @SpinningSara  6 місяців тому

      I’d recommend Enid Ashcroft, Silly Salmon, and definitely Woodland Handcrafts for support spindles. As far as using a Turk supported. Yes you can. I plan to do an Ask Spinning Sara video and I’ll address it then 😊
