There is a very simple reason why Jonesy is the absolute best "interviewer". He doesn't interview anyone. He just talks with people. Like they were in his living room.

But nobody really cares about trying to please those types of people. The only things those types of people like are trashing on people that they have more talent then them. That's why they will never do anything with their life. Thats why they are stuck at their 9-5 crying about how much they hate their boss and about how little money they make. Opinions be like assholes. Everyone has them and they all stink.
I’m not a Kiss fan but they’ve done some cracking tunes over the years and without doubt I admire the hard work they did, I do enjoy listening to Paul talking about his musical influences he always comes across as a very articulate intelligent bloke, and his rendition of soul classics is very enjoyable.

@@AmarettoSour710 Gene is a strange one. He seems arrogant but I think his brashness and ego is a bit put on.He does have only child syndrome but he seems to like the bravado demon persona. Under it all I think he’s very decent. He does a lot of charity work people don’t know about, a lot with the military, and he sponsors hundreds of kids.
Best Paul Stanley interview I've ever heard by far.
The guy loves music. That;s why he's great. That's how you know real musicians when they speak. Talking music is exciting and you can see the light come on in their eyes.

Jonesy doesn't let anyone get pretentious that's why he is the top interviewer around ..
On Trial UK he grew up on the streets and was the toughest member of the sex pistols...however he's a real great guy and a class act, but that side of you never dies

Humility comes with age. Good for him. What I really do like about Stanley is his love of rock and its roots. He's a forever fan, first.
Much of the over the top stuff was partly an act. Gene said a long time ago if you want to be a rock star you have to act like one. And if you want people to love you you have to love yourself. Not his exact words . But it was something similar. Plus they are pros at selling what ever current version of KISS. People get mad when they say unfavorable things about Ace and Peter. But all 4 has participated in mud slinging. It’s also hard not to say anything when your constantly asked about it.
Never seen any interviews of Paul, but seems like a smart, respectful, humble guy. Well done, you survived the pitfalls of Rock and Roll.
I listen to this interview about once a year. This is probably the best Paul Stanley interview. Very few of the usual questions and even when they're asked the laid back feel makes them sound different. Seeing Paul this laid back is refreshing.

Destroyer by Kiss was a favourite when I was a youngster. Soon after, I heard Never Mind The Bollocks & probably wouldn't have admitted to ever liking Kiss. Now that I am old and wise, I love both bands & recognize that they are not as different from each other as I once thought. Great interview with 2 legends!
yup 1970s rock n roll music.glam rock/pop metal and punk rock.much more on punk though e.g. pistols,clash,mc5,stooges,ramones,damned,iggy pop,johnny thunders than glam rock/pop metal(some are ok to me e.g. ny dolls,early kiss,bowie,t rex,sweet,mott the hoople,roxy music.
unless counting the 'cut the crap' album(except 'this is england' song the rest very 'useless' indeed).strummer really does regretted and disowned that record.much more digged pistols and the damned.digged the clash as well.from 1st album to 'combat rock'.and if you weren't a clash fan willum.so be it.

when kiss went 'disco pop rock' like most rockers were back then.the stones,rod stewart,paul mcartney,kinks did em a thing or two doing disco pop rock.
Angelo Catapang I actually think there are some great songs on Cut the Crap which are marred by lousy production. The aforementioned This Is England, North and South, Are You Ready, Dirty Punk, Fingerpoppin'... I love ALL those songs!

Paul kept the band together in every crisis age. i suggest reading his book even if you are not fan and just like rock. it's a nice r'n'r story. you can find the audiobook for free here on YT ....obviously not Gene's one ;D

yes, only the part where he destroys peter criss is a bit overcharged of shit. i couldn't believe peter went in the rehearsal with a music stand pretending to have the partiture 'cos he now could read the music' LoL
@@spiritualcramp8000 It wouldn't surprise me. There was a great interview somewhere on the net with Stan Penridge and he pretty much supported every accusation Paul has made over the years. From memory the high points included him saying that Peter didn't have anything to do with writing Beth (or any of the other co-writes he shared with him over the years) and that he couldn't write music at all. Given he's never recorded a song that didn't feature at least one co-writer, it does make you wonder.

A lot of us make judgements on rockers when we do not know them or go off some stupid rumor that has no truth to it and if we look deep into that person we find out why they are still with us and the smart humble ones last for a long time god bless Paul. Even when you get past Genes image he loves his fans and is more humble than you would ever know

I love all Jonesy’s Interviews with the Music Legends
I was in a band in the 90s. We had so much fun but, looking back, we did almost everything wrong. Getting signed to a label made us think we knew more than we did. I regret all we did wrong but you learn and get better at life, keep going.
Yeah I knew a local band that got signed. Didn't last past the first album. But two members went on to good writing and producing careers. Don't know what happened to the others.
No doubt that Paul Stanley is Kiss... been a fan since '76 when I bought (my favorite album) 'Rock and Roll Over' - all that aside, from a veteran, God Bless him for supporting the military and first responders...

I read Pauls book and I really didn't know about his lack of hearing and many other things he talked about. Very candid guy and a massive influence in my musical development. Thanks to both of these gentlemen.
Paul is a very intelligent, composed and astute person. I'd love to spend time with him. No wonder Kiss has continued to exist in it's various reincarnations. However, I think he needs to have a little heart-to-heart about his son's band.

This is a phenomenal interview.
Was a HUGE KISS fan once upon a time, but it's all business, and has been for a LONG time.
He sounds laid back and humble here, I agree. But it's about BRAND and BRANDING, and NO ONE knows that better than PS and GS.
He isnt.
BUDDY! EVERY BAND IS ALL BUSINESS! The industry resentment towards KISS was for thier not trying to hide it. The "Rock industry" had worked really hard to distract and train the public away from its corporate "business as usual" money making ways. KISS came along and said "Fuck that, let's just let Rock N'Roll be what it is" they didn't try and hold up the pretense that they were starving artist, or ashamed to make money. Make no mistake, aside from the Sex Pistols they were the single most threatening act to the established music industry. Why do you think Roling Stone (The #1 source for B.S Rock propaganda "We aren't a business" "we are playing for cultural change and artistic integrity") hated them so much? The blew the doors off the fiscal facade while the pistols blew the doors of the old archretypes. Y'know, that would have been a hell of a show the Sex Pistols and KISS, funny thing is, the bands don't really sound that diffwerent , they played essentially the same style of music.
I'm not some blind KISS maniac who obsesses over the band. Over the years, I've seen the original lineup, the no makeup lineup with Kulick, and the new band with Tommy & Eric. The original lineup show was incredible (the re-union tour) - I was definitely seeing KISS. The no-makeup show in Philly was only about half-full, (this was when they has the big Sphinx head as a set backdrop) but they definitely rocked, and I still felt that I was seeing KISS doing something different. The new band, which I saw here in Japan - for me it was not great and not something I'd pay for again, not trying to diss them but that's how it was for me. With all that said, I give Gene and Paul total respect for their 40+ year career. I appreciate them and wish them the best going forward. Final thought: ACE !!! Fkn Ace baby, that's where the soul of KISS is!!! Ace is one of the coolest MF'ers in Rock, he's up there close to Keith Richards territory as a Rock n' Roller.

Paul is the reason that kiss is still around in the late 80’s and even into 1990 Gene was worried more about making movies then being in a band and Paul really took the band by the horns and made sure that they were were still moving forward and although he was not happy with all of the results having to fill in for Gene when he was not there to record new material or shoot sn interview or redo some of his takes for the new album Paul did what he had to to keep the band relevant and run the day to day operations when he could have said screw it I have my Millions I will just kick back until Gene wants to hold up his end! He knew the best thing was to keep moving forward fill in what gapes needed to be filled and write and produce as many songs by his self to complete the next record. Knew he had blown it and as a band they all put there heart and soul into Revenge which is my favorite album and. Huge hit for kids Putting them back on top again. Paul says it best Gene make’s Paul better and Paul makes Gene better and together they are unstoppable!
Paul Stanley discusses his love for Roy Wood. It seems to be a common theme in rock music where fans of a particular group will love those artists, while disrepecting, or just plain not caring, about the artists who influenced their idols. I tell people all the time: have an open-mind about music and understand why your hero loves their heroes. They may just become your heroes, too

2 of my favorite people. Love this interview.
This is a great interview. It's a cool one cause back in the day, you were either a Kiss fan or a Pistols fan, and it was like an undeclared war between the two factions of fans. It wasn't until around '85 or so when it was ok to like both scenes, and we can thank bands like Metallica, DRI, COC, Raw Power, Slayer, Anthrax and many others for that. I was a huge Kiss fan back in the mid to late 70's, then aroound 77 - 78 I heard Never Mind The Bollocks.....and was very impressed. Then I saw the Ramones on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert and was blown away at how they sounded. After reading for a year or so prior to hearing those 2 bands how the punk bands were just noise and spitting and vomiting, I thought just the opposite, they were great, guitar based rock and roll bands who had just as much to offer as the hard rock bands of the time. I remember seeing an interview with Joe Perry who was one of the hard rock guys who "got it" when the punk bands showed up and took it the right way and wasn't threatened by the punk bands but rather saw it for what it was, a reaction against the bloated rock scene of the time and not a direct attack on all bands from that era. And now, 40 years on, here's 2 of the more iconic figures from each scene having a chat on Steve Jones' radio show.....really cool. Cheers to both of them for changing my life for the better all those years ago.

Wow, Paul really knows his stuff. I'm not a KISS fan, not at all, but he knows a lot about music, no fudging, no pretending he knows - NME, Melody Maker, Sounds, Mott and British Lions, his love of music is genuine
Even though a lot of these questions have been asked of Paul a lot of times, Jonesy seems to have a genuine friendly curiosity so it comes off interesting and not tired.

@@RighteousBrother but punk was an offshoot of rock..in England in the late 70's early 80's ..most heavy metal hard rock fans were also into punk music. The two genres got on together at gigs etc.. i know because i was part of it. The punk rebellion was anti everything before it...but the music was just a re hash of rock..but more grass roots. It was the established British bands like yes genesis pink floyd deep purple etc. that punk was against..not American bands.
Great interview. What a whirlwind those early years must have been for the four guys. The characters and the stage show were a brilliant idea. It took quite a work ethic to keep that band in business all these years. Took a lot of guts for Paul and Gene to walk away from a record deal to form Kiss.

Paul has an intelligent, humble, interesting tone of voice. He is not a donkey.
I was born in 1974, the year that they introduced their self-titled introduction. Then I grew up in a roller rink, so everything I did, anywhere I went, KISS joined us.
More than feeling like part of the band, or like I dealt with them in person (though I have seen them live), KISS wrote what feels like the "theme song" to my life, since their music is in so many of my memories both growing up & as an adult.
