This thing just looks rough, I know that most steam locomotives get dirty but this thing looks so bad it could pass off as being an engine that sat in a park for 20 years, I can’t wait to see how it looks once it comes back into service, I love the Santa Fe and this engine is just amazing
I like it cause it looks real! Personally I like a colorful paint job to be nice and clean but if it's a utilitarian one like here, it looks better with an "in service" type look
@@TGPilaramen. That thing is a chugging time bomb. I’m surprised the FRA is allowing her to run another year. Just watching her run is painful because of the gross negligence during operation and the overall cosmetic shape of the locomotive. I’m praying she returns in an amazing way!

This thing is in HORRIFIC condition. I've even seen a video of it with a clearly leaking staybolt on the firebox. Like others have said, I am shocked this engine hasn't blown up and killed. very nice, i was there on the 2nd, and apparently they ran 3415 again on the 17th. hopefully the rebuild is done better than the first one, and i hope they actually maintain it after that.
3:11 Wait, did they not even have a handbrake tied before trying to go around the train?! While 3415 is pulling away, the consist is rolling!! I feel that violates some kind of railroad safety/operations rule!
While it is a bit sad 3415 is out of service now I hope this next rebuild will be done properly compared to how wasatch did it. I mean, it amazes me it didn’t suffer a catastrophe incident like cp 1278 did in 1995 during the last 14 years it ran. I just hope they take their time on this rebuild as from what they said in their Facebook they want to have the engine back within the next 2 years, which imo I doubt they’ll be able to do with how bad the engine is in its mechanical shape.
While it's so great to hear that she got an extension on her run time, I must say that 3415 really doesn't look too good. I'm not an expert on the intricacies of how a steam loco's power reverse should work, but I'm guessing it shouldn't move the center driver when the direction is changed. That, along with the rust and visible wear is kinda sad to see. I'm sure it's all superficial but I do hope her upcoming overhaul gets her looking a little better.
they are running the blower so high its pulling all the heat out of the firebox and straight out the stack and that engineer needs to be more patience with the throttle leaving, ive steam before and this shows how badly they where trained to run the engine

What really rubs the salt in the wound is the reason it’s limited to 5-10 miles an hour. They don’t maintain the track. And thus they had to spend more money on coal do to the lack of thermal efficiency the engine had at said low speeds.. at this point why would they even bother.

This place is a nightmare.
