Truth be told there are just so many great places to live in North Carolina from Raleigh to Charlotte to the coast. I was leaning towards Raleigh but I think there are more affordable options outside of Charlotte. Btw… love your videos. I am learning so much about North Carolina. 👍

I am a Statistical Analyst and have been ranking American metro areas and small towns since 1985. As metro areas, Charlotte NC/SC offers more overall than Raleigh/Durham NC. Even on the city level, Charlotte wins. Both metro areas are green/clean, have strong economies, nice 4 season climates, and friendly residents. But metro Charlotte’s Buying Power (income vs. overall cost of living) is much better, there more way more unique recreational assets (things most metros do not have) in metro Charlotte than metro Raleigh/Durham, much better transportation assets (airport/light rail/trollies/street cars). Though RDU has its merits, Charlotte wins hands down.

Your statistics are off. Wake County is now the largest county in the state, population wise so how do you explain that? According to you, the Charlotte area is better but the Raleigh area has more people.
Hi Kaila nice video presentation,I'm from Melbourne Australia but I have a big interest in the USA.I watch a lot of videos about the different cities and landmarks. I have been to the US twice in 2015 and 2017.and the first time was a roadtrip around the eastern states.Part of that trip we drove through South Carolina and North Carolina but we didnt see any cities.We drove through this weird place called South of the border which had all things Mexican/souvenirs.
hahhaa good ole "south of the border"... I honestly don't know how it stays in business. Yes the I-95 corridor is VERY VERY different than the rest of NC and SC. SO much to see in just these two states (more to see in NC in my opinion)
Live in North Carolina all my 52 years. Live in Raleigh for a few years. You should have drove through the smaller cities of North Carolina. North Carolina has many smaller charming cities. It's why this state is ranked number three in film production only behind California and NY. Looks of movies were filmed here. TV shows too. Wilmington is a popular city for film. A few films made in North Carolina. Iron Man 3, The Hunger Games, Forrest Gump, Talladega Nights, The Conjuring, The Green Mile, and many other top movies I'm sure you heard of. Almost forgot Dirty Dancing. Lots of romance movies were filmed here. A Walk to Remember being one.
I grew up in CLT, went to school in CLT, have family and friends in CLT, visit often and don't get lost, but am in RDU now. Every time I'm back home, I'm so thankful I ended up in the Triangle rather than the Great State...
I have a lot of clients come from that area. Both spots are great but from socal, Charlotte will certainly align a bit better from an aspect of things available from food to shopping and homes

Yes we can get tornados but not Midwest style. the last tornado was a few years ago and only hit about 1/2 mile and had some roof damage, but it wasn't into the city area, it was closer to the country areas :) So I wouldn't mark it as a risk
Native of Raleigh, my older sister lived in Charlotte the last 40 years. Raleigh wins hands down...tons of great neighborhoods, 120 mile Greenway system, big foodie city, less traffic, community spirit/ philanthropy, tons of doctors and excellent hospitals, wonderful suburbs, big time college academics\athletics, tons of city,county, and state parks, two large lakes-- Jordan Lake and Falls Lake, tons of smaller lakes where you can rent kayaks, sailboats, rowboats, excellent public schools plus lots of excellent private schools, very low crime, big local music scene, half a dozen outdoor concert venues, local farmers markets all over town plus in all the suburbs, community college with 70,000 students, multiple fine arts venues along with multiple art museums, childrens museums, nc state history museum, Rawlston Arboretum, State Fairgrounds, state Capitol, 2 hrs to closest beach (Wrightsville beach, 3 hours drive to closest mountains (Boone), lots of charm, plus tons of modern architecture and friendly people! Raleigh is much easier to navigate than Charlotte with less traffic too.😊
Raleigh certainly has its benefits, and I love that there are multiple amazing cities in NC... but absolutely love Charlotte way more having lived in both... but I love bigger cities ;) Thank you for watching

NC or SC seems very interesting in many aspects such as nicer weather, cost of living, close to mountain/water etc… If we look for affordable housing near lake, where would you recommend? Hmm affordable housing near a lake I would saw Catawba or some parts of Lake Wylie. It depends on affordability scale you're looking in. 55+ makes everything at least $200k more honestly. I'd stay outside those if you dont want the expense but if you like the lifestyle there are options. options across charlotte, just not on the lake. I live in Raleigh and worked in Charlotte . I’m team Charlotte here because Charlotte is less segregated and more inclusive than Raleigh. Too many egos in Raleigh and people seem very delusional. I’m from Nashville Tennessee born and raised and Charlotte is more comparable to Nashville for me. Raleigh to me and lots of others, Raleigh lack’s culture and feels very vanilla. The food scene in Charlotte is far superior than Raleigh. The people in Charlotte are more pleasant and welcoming than Raleigh. Raleigh can be extremely boring. That’s my honest opinion of both cities oh and Charlotte has a way bigger and better airport and better infrastructure.
@@Rellgood Certainly recommend a visit. I lived in Raleigh for many years, and feel the opportunities, food, entertainment, lifestyle, people and more all beat out Charlotte. There are population growth in Raleigh and Charlotte, but from an infrastructure perspective, Charlotte is far better laid out and prepared for the growth, Raleigh is more fragmented.
@@Caniac526 I've lived in both locations for an extended period of time. This is based a lot on my actual experiences as well as some stats. Charlotte is more than just downtown, and we do have some of the best parks and recreation areas in the state. This includes areas in Mooresville all the way into Rock Hill. I think the real win is the 5 lakes that you can boat and swim in within 45 min of downtown :)
@@livingincharlottenorthcarolina I’m sorry I have too. Charlotte is not even close to Raleigh in my opinion for families, inclusiveness, parks and college sports. Charlotte is good for singles, but Raleigh has them beat everywhere else. You can say parks are good in Charlotte but that’s just a home town opinion there. And Raleigh has 3 lakes that aren’t overcrowded like Charlotte.
been in the raleigh area almost 20 yrs now. i think it's important to note that 'raleigh' means basically wake county at this point. it all bleeds together and many of the points you made don't really apply as they would only apply to the downtown area of raleigh aka inside the beltline. RTP is really durham and that's where most people will work from in the corporate world but there are countless companies set up throughout the county. Raleigh, Cary, Holly Springs, etc were already at capacity a decade ago so you're seeing it spill out into the rest of the towns in wake co.
We've been in Raleigh since 1996 and the growth has been phenomenal to the point that Wake County now holds the number one spot for the largest population in NC. We moved from Raleigh to Clayton two years ago because as retirees the extra driving doesn't bother us, we got so much more house for our money and we prefer the slower pace around our neighborhood and can still go to Raleigh for some excitement and we prefer being near the beaches to being near the mountains and that's a huge selling point for Raleigh.
This was a great video! I'm planning to retire to Charlotte in a couple of years. Im in Los Angeles, California. Can you do a video about thye bugs and insects especially the snakes. I hear that there are a lot of snakes. Is that true?
I can def do a video on this. If you check out my Pros and Cons of Charlotte video I do talk a bit about that. Honestly it's not bad at all. We only have a handful of venomous snakes and you'll only ever cross paths with 2 of them.... and in 20 years I've only seen one of them (and I'm outdoors a lottt). As for bugs, probably more than Cali, but the worst ones are mosquitos and Palmetto Bugs (cockroaches) which are common in the south. They can be easily kept out of the house with some bug treatment. You wont see them outside running around though Hope this helps!

Hmm I would Say North Carolina. More specifically (depending on location) closer into the center of charlotte south of downtown. This will give you PLENTY going on and sidewalks and walking trails and parks asside from a dozen golf courses to choose from. I will add Trilogy (if you want 55+) is an amazing development in Denver. The downsides is the development itself doesnt have a golf course but it does have a boat club to go rent boats. It's an active 55+. I will also add that if you do want 55+ and golf, then maybe Sun City in Fort Mill SOUTH Carolina. THat would be my only reason to suggest SC for retirement location

These are good questions. We do have a pretty solid asian population with a mixture of countries such as India (coming in as the largest), Japanese, Korean, and Chinese. There are others from the Frech Polynesian areas as well just not as prevelant For those with healthcare and tech background I'd lean towards Charlotte. For BIo I would lean towards Raleigh/Durham
Ehh it depends where you go. South and central Charlotte the prices have certainly gone up. But the Charlotte region would include areas like Huntersville, Concord, Mint Hill, Indian Trail, Fort Mill, Lake Wylie, Gastonia, Mt Holly.... and many more. All of which are very affordable. Like those who move to NY. They don't move to Manhattan b/c it's expensive, they go to the towns outside of the city :) Even so, you can get a home in Charlotte for under $400,000 in many areas.
are you meaning size? If I had to guess about 2300 sf is about average. Both cities have similar home sizes. Price wise, Raleigh runs a tad higher in the low 400s while charlotte is just at about 400k
The RTP is literally full of tech companies (including the new Apple campus that’s coming) so tech is big in Raleigh. And there are also big healthcare systems just like Charlotte. Duke,UNC, WakeMed so there are definitely plenty of jobs just wanted to put that out there.
Hey! I do agree there is a lot of growth AND it depends the positions you are looking for. One thing many of my friends graduating learned quick is entry level positions are scarce. If you are an expert in your field with experience, there is far more opportunity :)

The Triangle has $15+B investment already pledged. Toyota, Fuji Pharma, Wolf Speed, Apple, VinFast (although they are having teething issues, but the Toyota partnership is promising) are just a few.
@livingincharlottenorthcarolina they are widening freeways & main roads. Imagine it was a stipulation with the companies investing these huge sums. Toyota alone went from $1.9B initial to $5.8B, Wolf Speed in Siler City (I believe) is about $5B...
I think you over exaggerated the size difference of the 2. Yes Raleigh city pop is about half the size of clt but the metros are similar in size, the triangle has about 2.2 million and Charlotte has 2.8m. Also it takes a lot longer to drive around Raleigh than 15 minutes if you drive the whole 540 it takes atleast an hour maybe even an hour and a half a lot longer than 485 in Charlotte and it’s not even fully completed yet
Hmm I used to be able to drive from south raligh to north in 15 min, round trip on the belt line was about 35 min or so. Charlotte 485 loop is complete, and takes about 1 hr to circle. They are expanding the lanes on the south sidee though
@@livingincharlottenorthcarolina Raleigh has 2 belt lines 440 and 540. 440 is the smaller one and yes it takes about 30 mins round trip 540 however is massive. To be fair it does encompass Cary as well

Lived in Charlotte for almost 9 years and Raleigh now for 14. I would never leave Raleigh to go back to Charlotte. Charlotte is like Asheville, nice place to visit but don’t want to live there.
Honestly they are about the same. All of NC has great air so from an asthma stand point it is ok. Regarding the Alergies, that is all over the place. One of my clients from FL has HORRIBLE allergies and she does SO much better here than FL. Our mold count is higher due to humidity, but not "black mold" more fungal
Healthcare is one of our major industries actually. We have to major medical providers (Novant and Atrium). And there are a lot of specialists as well (cardiac, pediatric, etc)
@@ShaLyn-r4u there are MANY specialists in the area from pediatrics to oncologists. You name it, its here. If you have severe health issues and need occasional visits for very rare illnesses, we are only 2 hrs from Duke University which has cutting edge techniques and world class specialists in the most rare diseases and illnesses. But for supported care from those Drs recommendations we have phenomenal ones in Charlotte
I live in Raleigh i love it here ,,its more laid back n peaceful..i lived in Charlotte 14 years..its bad out there , definitely in the sugar creek area ,,the crime rate super high ,, but its some good dope out there tho ,thats the only thing i love about Charlotte. But i have to pick Raleigh tho , cause its more opportunities job wise being that the metro area so big , RDU ,, its alot goin on in that area
they are both certainly great cities. Charlotte has changed a LOT in 14 years I can tell you that. While Sugar Creek does still have higher crime rates, its starting to be pushed out with increased demand :)
It IS very confusing, and even parents here have difficulty. The good thing is there area a TON of options. Public, Magnet, Charter, Private and Homeschool. Wake County surpassed Mecklenburg County in population a few years ago so it makes no sense to say Charlotte is better. More people prefer to live in the Raleigh area than in the Charlotte. So many people come here for their education and end up staying for the plentiful jobs. Their parents, siblings etc. come down and love the area because of the close proximity to the ocean.
I guess it's a lot opinion wise. Many of the ppl I know chose Charlotte over Raleigh. And bigger isn't necessarily better. We surely have less traffic here and better infrastructure. Based on the census reports in 2022, Population of the city of Charlotte was 897,000 and Raleigh was 476,000.... so still about half the size of Charlotte. But it really comes down to how it's laid out and what is available. Both are great cites

The population of the Raleigh area/metro is NOT way less than Charlotte. They are actually about equal. The population of Wake County (where Raleigh is located) is actually larger than Mecklenburg County (Charlotte). The reason for the “low” population of the CITY of Raleigh is because the land area of the city limits of Raleigh is relatively small, and is only a small portion of the land area of Wake County….while the city limit land area of Charlotte is much bigger and takes up almost the entirety of the land area of Mecklenburg County.
All depends on how you are looking at the numbers. If you look at JUST the city, Charlotte is at 925k and Raleigh is 487k If you look at the regions around that city, Charlotte has 2.8 Million and Raleigh has 2.1 Million In either case Charlotte is still much bigger :)
@@livingincharlottenorthcarolina And that "metro" definition of 2.8 million for Charlotte and 2.1 for Raleigh is done ARBITRARILY by taking around 8 or 9 counties around Mecklenburg to include with Mecklenburg and define as the "Charlotte metro", and only taking the equivalent of about 2 or 3 counties outside of Wake County to include with Wake to define as the "Raleigh Metro". They are taking way more land area and counties for Charlotte, inflating their "metro". If you took the surrounding 8 or 9 counties around Wake County to define the "Raleigh Metro", then it would probably be about 2.8 million as well, or possibly more.
If your from Ny, NJ, Conn. and Mass., don't move to North Carolina. The homes are priced the same as the north east but the salaries are very low (50k) if your not in the medical arena. The food is bad, the department stores have Target quality clothes, the mefical care is the worst I've ever experienced. These Drs would be sued into oblivion if they worked in the North East. This also includes the premieren vet emergency facilities. So if you don't want to die due medical mal practice and you want to protect your pets from the same don't move to Raleigh.
Sounds like you haven't had a good experience here Personally speaking, I have plenty of family and friends in NY and NJ and CT... The homes here are half the price, larger and the taxes are SUPER low. One client fro LI paid 16k a year in taxes. Same size home here... $3200 a year. Food here is amazing (in Charlotte at least) and other cities have great eats as well. We also have some of the largest hubs for medical facilities in the south east with Medicine being our #2 industry behind Banking. As someone who has sadly had several major medical emergencies (and those where dr visits were scheduled) we have been happily surprsed at the level of service and expertise. So, sorry You don't like the NC area, but for anyone wanting better quality of life and less bs.... NC is a win!
I've lived in the Triangle and in Charlotte. I think that Charlotte is way better. Neither is a "real city" (e.g., NY, DC, SF, Boston), but Charlotte has a much more vibrant downtown. The Triangle, however, seems to have a more educated and more sophisticated population due to, among other things, the presence of Duke and UNC professors. Anyway, Charlotte is a small version of Atlanta, and Raleigh is a small version of Charlotte. P.S.: I love your videos.

I will give Raleigh credit, their downtown has improved substantially over the last decade, but I'm still partial to Charlotte. I feel you, it's wayyyy pricy. When I told my cousin what my monthly payment was (mortgage, taxes and insurance), he thought I was just sharing what I paid in taxes monthly lol
I keep hearing that north carolina is racist. And that worries me. Plus i have children some biracial children and in a relationship with a Caucasian man. I want to move there, but i want my family to be safe and i need good schools for my children. Does anyone have anything to say on racism and more? Researching doesn't tell me enough.
haha I laugh because the media has a great way of painting a false narrative. What I will say is racism exists all over the world, and is perpetuated by weak minded, arrogant individuals (stepping off my soap box now). No the south is not racist, and Charlotte specifically is extremely open to all races and creeds. I have many clients and friends who are Bi-racial and multi-racial. We have a higher population of African American in Charlotte (35%) than the US Average (13.5%). Schools excel past the US Average and many major cities as well. You may have your random A****** but as a whole Charlotte is one of the friendliest cities I've ever been in (and many of my clients of many races and locations have said the same). Well if you decide to make the move give me a call 704-559-9169. Yes we can get tornados but not Midwest style. the last tornado was a few years ago and only hit about 1/2 mile and had some roof damage, but it wasn't into the city area, it was closer to the country areas :) So I wouldn't mark it as a risk

Native of Raleigh, my older sister lived in Charlotte the last 40 years. Raleigh wins hands down...tons of great neighborhoods, 120 mile Greenway system, big foodie city, less traffic, community spirit/ philanthropy, tons of doctors and excellent hospitals, wonderful suburbs, big time college academics\athletics, tons of city,county, and state parks, two large lakes-- Jordan Lake and Falls Lake, tons of smaller lakes where you can rent kayaks, sailboats, rowboats, excellent public schools plus lots of excellent private schools, very low crime, big local music scene, half a dozen outdoor concert venues, local farmers markets all over town plus in all the suburbs, community college with 70,000 students, multiple fine arts venues along with multiple art museums, childrens museums, nc state history museum, Rawlston Arboretum, State Fairgrounds, state Capitol, 2 hrs to closest beach (Wrightsville beach, 3 hours drive to closest mountains (Boone), lots of charm, plus tons of modern architecture and friendly people! Raleigh is much easier to navigate than Charlotte with less traffic too.😊
Raleigh certainly has its benefits, and I love that there are multiple amazing cities in NC... but absolutely love Charlotte way more having lived in both... but I love bigger cities ;) Thank you for watching

Hmm affordable housing near a lake I would saw Catawba or some parts of Lake Wylie. It depends on affordability scale you're looking in. 55+ makes everything at least $200k more honestly. I'd stay outside those if you dont want the expense but if you like the lifestyle there are options.

I live in Raleigh and worked in Charlotte . I’m team Charlotte here because Charlotte is less segregated and more inclusive than Raleigh. Too many egos in Raleigh and people seem very delusional. I’m from Nashville Tennessee born and raised and Charlotte is more comparable to Nashville for me. Raleigh to me and lots of others, Raleigh lack’s culture and feels very vanilla. The food scene in Charlotte is far superior than Raleigh. The people in Charlotte are more pleasant and welcoming than Raleigh. Raleigh can be extremely boring. That’s my honest opinion of both cities oh and Charlotte has a way bigger and better airport and better infrastructure.

@@Rellgood Certainly recommend a visit. I lived in Raleigh for many years, and feel the opportunities, food, entertainment, lifestyle, people and more all beat out Charlotte. There are population growth in Raleigh and Charlotte, but from an infrastructure perspective, Charlotte is far better laid out and prepared for the growth, Raleigh is more fragmented.
Couldn’t be further form the truth. Raleigh is way more inclusive than Charlotte. Charlottes parks are boring and it’s way too crowded.
@@Caniac526 I've lived in both locations for an extended period of time. This is based a lot on my actual experiences as well as some stats. Charlotte is more than just downtown, and we do have some of the best parks and recreation areas in the state. This includes areas in Mooresville all the way into Rock Hill. I think the real win is the 5 lakes that you can boat and swim in within 45 min of downtown :)

Charlotte is good for singles, but Raleigh has them beat everywhere else. You can say parks are good in Charlotte but that’s just a home town opinion there. And Raleigh has 3 lakes that aren’t overcrowded like Charlotte.
This is like a Austin vs Dallas comparison. College town vs corporate town.

been in the raleigh area almost 20 yrs now. i think it's important to note that 'raleigh' means basically wake county at this point. it all bleeds together and many of the points you made don't really apply as they would only apply to the downtown area of raleigh aka inside the beltline. RTP is really durham and that's where most people will work from in the corporate world but there are countless companies set up throughout the county. Raleigh, Cary, Holly Springs, etc were already at capacity a decade ago so you're seeing it spill out into the rest of the towns in wake co.

We've been in Raleigh since 1996 and the growth has been phenomenal to the point that Wake County now holds the number one spot for the largest population in NC. We moved from Raleigh to Clayton two years ago because as retirees the extra driving doesn't bother us, we got so much more house for our money and we prefer the slower pace around our neighborhood and can still go to Raleigh for some excitement and we prefer being near the beaches to being near the mountains and that's a huge selling point for Raleigh.
Queens University in Charlotte is a lovely private school with an ivy league flavor in coveted the Myers Park neighborhood.

This was a great video! I'm planning to retire to Charlotte in a couple of years. Im in Los Angeles, California. Can you do a video about thye bugs and insects especially the snakes. I hear that there are a lot of snakes. Is that true?
I can def do a video on this. If you check out my Pros and Cons of Charlotte video I do talk a bit about that. Honestly it's not bad at all. We only have a handful of venomous snakes and you'll only ever cross paths with 2 of them.... and in 20 years I've only seen one of them (and I'm outdoors a lottt). As for bugs, probably more than Cali, but the worst ones are mosquitos and Palmetto Bugs (cockroaches) which are common in the south. They can be easily kept out of the house with some bug treatment. You wont see them outside running around though

Hmm I would Say North Carolina. More specifically (depending on location) closer into the center of charlotte south of downtown. This will give you PLENTY going on and sidewalks and walking trails and parks asside from a dozen golf courses to choose from.
I will add Trilogy (if you want 55+) is an amazing development in Denver. The downsides is the development itself doesnt have a golf course but it does have a boat club to go rent boats. It's an active 55+. I will also add that if you do want 55+ and golf, then maybe Sun City in Fort Mill SOUTH Carolina. THat would be my only reason to suggest SC for retirement location

These are good questions. We do have a pretty solid asian population with a mixture of countries such as India (coming in as the largest), Japanese, Korean, and Chinese. There are others from the Frech Polynesian areas as well just not as prevelant
For those with healthcare and tech background I'd lean towards Charlotte. For BIo I would lean towards Raleigh/Durham

Ehh it depends where you go. South and central Charlotte the prices have certainly gone up. But the Charlotte region would include areas like Huntersville, Concord, Mint Hill, Indian Trail, Fort Mill, Lake Wylie, Gastonia, Mt Holly.... and many more. All of which are very affordable. Like those who move to NY. They don't move to Manhattan b/c it's expensive, they go to the towns outside of the city :)
Even so, you can get a home in Charlotte for under $400,000 in many areas.

are you meaning size? If I had to guess about 2300 sf is about average. Both cities have similar home sizes. Price wise, Raleigh runs a tad higher in the low 400s while charlotte is just at about 400k
The RTP is literally full of tech companies (including the new Apple campus that’s coming) so tech is big in Raleigh. And there are also big healthcare systems just like Charlotte. Duke,UNC, WakeMed so there are definitely plenty of jobs just wanted to put that out there.
Hey! I do agree there is a lot of growth AND it depends the positions you are looking for. One thing many of my friends graduating learned quick is entry level positions are scarce. If you are an expert in your field with experience, there is far more opportunity :)

The Triangle has $15+B investment already pledged. Toyota, Fuji Pharma, Wolf Speed, Apple, VinFast (although they are having teething issues, but the Toyota partnership is promising) are just a few.
This is great news for Raleigh. Have they made any improvements to the infrastructure? The main rds/interstates are pretty jammed up a lot of the time

I think you over exaggerated the size difference of the 2. Yes Raleigh city pop is about half the size of clt but the metros are similar in size, the triangle has about 2.2 million and Charlotte has 2.8m. Also it takes a lot longer to drive around Raleigh than 15 minutes if you drive the whole 540 it takes atleast an hour maybe even an hour and a half a lot longer than 485 in Charlotte and it’s not even fully completed yet
Hmm I used to be able to drive from south raligh to north in 15 min, round trip on the belt line was about 35 min or so. Charlotte 485 loop is complete, and takes about 1 hr to circle. They are expanding the lanes on the south sidee though

Lived in Charlotte for almost 9 years and Raleigh now for 14. I would never leave Raleigh to go back to Charlotte. Charlotte is like Asheville, nice place to visit but don’t want to live there.

Honestly they are about the same. All of NC has great air so from an asthma stand point it is ok. Regarding the Alergies, that is all over the place. One of my clients from FL has HORRIBLE allergies and she does SO much better here than FL. Our mold count is higher due to humidity, but not "black mold" more fungal

Healthcare is one of our major industries actually. We have to major medical providers (Novant and Atrium). And there are a lot of specialists as well (cardiac, pediatric, etc)
Yes I’m in the healthcare also! Also have young child I have to worry about that.

If you have severe health issues and need occasional visits for very rare illnesses, we are only 2 hrs from Duke University which has cutting edge techniques and world class specialists in the most rare diseases and illnesses. But for supported care from those Drs recommendations we have phenomenal ones in Charlotte
I live in Raleigh i love it here ,,its more laid back n peaceful..i lived in Charlotte 14 years..its bad out there , definitely in the sugar creek area ,,the crime rate super high ,, but its some good dope out there tho ,thats the only thing i love about Charlotte. But i have to pick Raleigh tho , cause its more opportunities job wise being that the metro area so big , RDU ,, its alot goin on in that area
they are both certainly great cities. Charlotte has changed a LOT in 14 years I can tell you that. While Sugar Creek does still have higher crime rates, its starting to be pushed out with increased demand :)

Wake County surpassed Mecklenburg County in population a few years ago so it makes no sense to say Charlotte is better. More people prefer to live in the Raleigh area than in the Charlotte. So many people come here for their education and end up staying for the plentiful jobs. Their parents, siblings etc. come down and love the area because of the close proximity to the ocean.
I guess it's a lot opinion wise. Many of the ppl I know chose Charlotte over Raleigh. And bigger isn't necessarily better. We surely have less traffic here and better infrastructure. Based on the census reports in 2022, Population of the city of Charlotte was 897,000 and Raleigh was 476,000.... so still about half the size of Charlotte. But it really comes down to how it's laid out and what is available. Both are great cites
@@livingincharlottenorthcarolina Mecklenberg County has 1.12 million people and Wake County has 1.15million so I agree, it's close and it's certainly which city better serves an individual's wants and needs. I really enjoyed your video. Learned quite a bit and all I can say is that no one can go wrong moving to North Carolina. It's a lovely state with so much to offer with so many beautiful cities.

The population of the Raleigh area/metro is NOT way less than Charlotte. They are actually about equal. The population of Wake County (where Raleigh is located) is actually larger than Mecklenburg County (Charlotte). The reason for the “low” population of the CITY of Raleigh is because the land area of the city limits of Raleigh is relatively small, and is only a small portion of the land area of Wake County….while the city limit land area of Charlotte is much bigger and takes up almost the entirety of the land area of Mecklenburg County.
All depends on how you are looking at the numbers. If you look at JUST the city, Charlotte is at 925k and Raleigh is 487k
If you look at the regions around that city, Charlotte has 2.8 Million and Raleigh has 2.1 Million
In either case Charlotte is still much bigger :)
@@livingincharlottenorthcarolina And that "metro" definition of 2.8 million for Charlotte and 2.1 for Raleigh is done ARBITRARILY by taking around 8 or 9 counties around Mecklenburg to include with Mecklenburg and define as the "Charlotte metro", and only taking the equivalent of about 2 or 3 counties outside of Wake County to include with Wake to define as the "Raleigh Metro". They are taking way more land area and counties for Charlotte, inflating their "metro". If you took the surrounding 8 or 9 counties around Wake County to define the "Raleigh Metro", then it would probably be about 2.8 million as well, or possibly more.

If your from Ny, NJ, Conn. and Mass., don't move to North Carolina. The homes are priced the same as the north east but the salaries are very low (50k) if your not in the medical arena. The food is bad, the department stores have Target quality clothes, the mefical care is the worst I've ever experienced. These Drs would be sued into oblivion if they worked in the North East. This also includes the premieren vet emergency facilities. So if you don't want to die due medical mal practice and you want to protect your pets from the same don't move to Raleigh.
Sounds like you haven't had a good experience here Personally speaking, I have plenty of family and friends in NY and NJ and CT... The homes here are half the price, larger and the taxes are SUPER low. One client fro LI paid 16k a year in taxes. Same size home here... $3200 a year.
Food here is amazing (in Charlotte at least) and other cities have great eats as well. We also have some of the largest hubs for medical facilities in the south east with Medicine being our #2 industry behind Banking. As someone who has sadly had several major medical emergencies (and those where dr visits were scheduled) we have been happily surprsed at the level of service and expertise.
So, sorry You don't like the NC area, but for anyone wanting better quality of life and less bs.... NC is a win!

I've lived in the Triangle and in Charlotte. I think that Charlotte is way better. Neither is a "real city" (e.g., NY, DC, SF, Boston), but Charlotte has a much more vibrant downtown. The Triangle, however, seems to have a more educated and more sophisticated population due to, among other things, the presence of Duke and UNC professors. Anyway, Charlotte is a small version of Atlanta, and Raleigh is a small version of Charlotte. P.S.: I love your videos.

I keep hearing that north carolina is racist. And that worries me. Plus i have children some biracial children and in a relationship with a Caucasian man. I want to move there, but i want my family to be safe and i need good schools for my children. Does anyone have anything to say on racism and more? Researching doesn't tell me enough.
haha I laugh because the media has a great way of painting a false narrative. What I will say is racism exists all over the world, and is perpetuated by weak minded, arrogant individuals (stepping off my soap box now). No the south is not racist, and Charlotte specifically is extremely open to all races and creeds. I have many clients and friends who are Bi-racial and multi-racial. We have a higher population of African American in Charlotte (35%) than the US Average (13.5%). Schools excel past the US Average and many major cities as well.
You may have your random A****** but as a whole Charlotte is one of the friendliest cities I've ever been in (and many of my clients of many races and locations have said the same).
