EDIT - You can shoot into the hole in the wall to stop the cieling in the final boss fight, ok, I get it, you can stop telling me. :P
Here we go again! One of my hardest runs yet, Revenge of Shinobi requires precision timing JUST to avoid getting hit, let alone hit the bosses.
Just for giggles, I do it without magic. Reduce boss times by half if magic is used basically.
As usual, no tool assists, no cheats, just human playing skills... thus why my videos have the occasional missed shot and a couple of mistimes.
A childhood favourite, and a game I used to struggle on, I decided to toothpick apart the bosses and come up with sure-fire strategies that would beat them. And as you can see. I was successful. Couple of notes:
1) The magic used on the first boss does NOT count... the boss is already dead XD.
2) You can block the second boss's shots.
3) 3 needs no notes. Just insane timing.
4) The trick to the boss is to NOT hit him after he throws the trash, otherwise he pulls off an unavoidable attack.
5) Safespots for the win.
6) I go kinda crazy in the second portion of the fight... you need to take out as many bats as possible!
7)The boss does not register all the hits.. as you can see in the video. Damn thing.
8) If you have any sense at all, for god's sake go into this battle with the lightning magic!
Later versions of the game had several of the bosses replaced with generic monsters. This video is based off the first version of the game.
And am I the only person who thinks the music in this game is awesome? ;D

If I remember right, I had a version where *_Godzilla was a skeleton,_* and *_Batman_* and maybe *_Spider-Man_* were slightly altered not look like them. It still had *_The Incredible Terminator_* though.
You would be correct. The Law Ninjas got to Sega and later versions of the ROM have edited sprites - Godzilla becomes a dracolich sometime around 1.3, Batman becomes a Devilman (ie the Manga) knockoff, the fake Spidey later gets repainted into proper colors (red and blue instead of red and grey) and retreats instead of morphing (Sega actually DID have the copyright to the webhead, so he didn't need to be modified until the VC port years later when they had lost it).
There's also some other minor variations between versions of the game - the Rambo flamethrower guys get shaved heads in later versions, the Nuke Carrier boss on the highway gets a palette swap, and a couple other minor nitpicky things I forget offhand.

As far as I figure, it's a shape-shifter using their forms to it's advantage. Still no explaination as to why you fight Godzilla of all things.

Boss 1: Shredder from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but without all the blades on his armor, and carrying a sword. Boss 2: Same as the white, throwing star, ninjas but with Fushin magic. Boss 4: Terminator. Boss 6: Spider-Man (1st part) Batman (2nd part) Boss 7: Godzilla.
Isn't it just AMAZING that this game EVER saw the light of day?? Not just because of all the possible broken Copyright laws, but the fact that over half the bosses, (4, 6, & 7,) are GOOD GUYS that KNOW Right from Wrong!!!

You can try to delay the collapsing ceiling by shoot the hole on the wall. They appear in both walls, left and right sides.
A modern Shinobi has him battle:

* Maui
* Darth Vader
* Kylo Ren
* Darth Maul
* Boba Fett
* Hulk Hogan
* Iron Man
* Deadpool
* Groot
In addition, SpongeBob, Rocky Balboa, Naruto, John Cena, and Jabba the Hutt are regular enemies.
Don't forget about Homer, Dr Strange, and Beavis and Butthead!

There needs to be at least a Shinobi fangame or two that has those copywritten characters. I mean, Sonic has a lot of fan games, so why not give a similar treatment to a different Sega franchise?

Apparently you can buy time during the final boss by seizing up the crushing mechanism. Those holes on each side of the room lead into the mechanism. So just toss a kunai in there and the block will stall for a few seconds.
The prevailing theory is that this was the fanfic of some Sega executive and he said "Make a game about this."
And they did. And the rest is history.

Imagine this was your first game when you were young and that you had no idea that some of these bosses/enemies have already existed in their own franchises and you be like "Hey isn't that the boss I killed in the Sega genesis game Revenge of Shinobi, he has his own movie and comic series?"
That would've been an ironic and amusing introduction to these characters.

By fighting Pokemon battles, you get enough *EXP* to evolve.
I always loved the flashing lights when you battle the Shadow Dancer, they're a tad distracting though.

They replaced batman with a vampire and godzilla with a skeletal dragon, but they kept spiderman and the terminator as bosses on the later versions.
Jiraiya always reminded me a lot of the last boss with the hair thing he does. The last boss also kinda looks like the death god in Naruto. I feel like naruto got a lot of influence from this game (Ninjutsu, etc).
Jiraiya and Neo-Zeed both contain influence from the art of kabuki.

Your administering of justice to that final boss was damn impressive. I lost so much hair pulling it out in frustration every time I played a perfect game only to be killed at the final stage by that bushy bastard. Well done to you sir.

Nostalgia! I used to play this on Sega Smash Pack on my PC. (It's called The Super Shinobi on that version.) I now have this on my emulator though. Thank you for uploading!

Licensing issues. Later versions of the game had Spiderman as an officially licensed boss. Sega naturally lost the license.
They've made an updated version of the game that replaces Spiderman's graphics alongside the other bosses, so they should be able to include it in later game compilations, hopefully.
this is true. One good example is SNK's NAM 1975, which features a whole lot of direct references to Full Metal Jacket, which includes the screaming soldier in the intro referring to Animal Mother, and the ladies before fighting Dr. Muckly's machine who will attack you when you spare them during the first fight with Muckly being the sniper lady from the end of the film.

The song's called Long Distance, this is the tune that normally plays during the story demo of the game.
This game really did have it all: Shredder, Krang, Batman, Spiderman, Godzilla, T-800, Bak Mei, etc.
Damn I love this game this along with streets of rage, sonic 1, golden axe, gunstar heroes, mortal kombat 2, street fighter, dynamite headdy, and castlevania bloodlines were my fav games on the sega back in the day! man those were the fucking days & these games had incredible soundtracks!
I keep watching this because of how insane this game has in terms of copyright characters fighting Joe Musashi. I remember doing this game for my channel and I'm like really now.

To be fair, Marvel actually gave them the license to use Spiderman in later versions of this game, (Said license was lost for the Virtual Console re-release, therefore Spidey got replaced in that version with someone in a Pink Leo-tard. Same boss though)
Of course, this meant the Batman boss got reskinned in the next release, and in the release after that Godzilla got replaced. (As did a Rambo enemy.)
Oddly enough, the Terminator is in ALL versions of the game.

how come in my version using any magic apart from fushin makes the cieling go faster on zeed's level? and i can only use one magic on him.
NOTE: Its better to use fushin for zeed than the electric magic.

To be fair, the later editions of the game remove the infringing bosses, but the Terminator stuck it out in all versions, and Spiderman has only recently been removed. Previously they obtained a license to use Spidey.
As for the TAS part - it isn't, I have a Live Commentary Let's Play of this game on my channel where I pretty but repeat what I do here in real time.
When fighting Neo Zeed there's a trapdoor on the left wall to shoot kunai into that momentarily stops the trap. I honestly didn't know about this for a while.
I've loved this game forever, and it's amazing to me the different ways to defeat these bosses. I've NEVER done that with the level 3 boss, for instance, and your way is MUCH quicker :). I'm going to give that a go!

Nice video, the game is one of my childhood favorites as well. A few points:
1- You can stab the terminator, you kill kim very fast doing it.
2- On the nuclear transport you can jump at the edge of the truck behind the last mechanism to safely avoid the electricity.
3- Had never noticed the bra thing, and it's been 21 years since I played it lol.
4- It's easy to get to Zeed with a power up. There is one hidden on the left wall in the room just before him.
5- Indeed, awesome music.

Old times...I played this game when I was like 8 years old, but I never managed to finish it.I once got to the final stage, the labirinth, but I didn't find the exit, then I died and never managed to go back :(

Awesome playthrough man you have some skill to not rely on the magic, I always hated that final boss I found it almost impossible to save the girl and beat the guy at the same time. Really impressive run man.

I missed the good old times when i used to play my on sega megadrive 2,I had mega games 6 i would sometimes play the revenge of shinobi those were the days nobody made games like this anymore nobody makes consoles like the sega megadrive 2 anymore either.

I always thought the Blue Lobster was Shredder from TMNT. I love how they put Arnold Schwarzegger and Rambo in this game too!
Luv this game. Had it on the genesis when i was about 5 years old. Hadn't played it since then until i noticed it was available to download from PSN. Unfortunately many of the boss characters have been changed due to copyright. Batman, godzilla etc and also there seems to be a problem with the controls on the ps3 version. They aren't very responsive and pulling off a simple somersault is very challenging and has resulted in my death many times as it just doesn't seem register that i've pressed correct buttons. Very frustrating! Also Shinobi's face on the title screen has been changed as he apparently resembles actor Sonny Chiba dressed as his character Hattori Hanzō from the Japanese TV series Shadow Warriors.
How I miss this game...thanks a lot for the awesome video and the funniest comments ever :)

They didn't technically get sued, but they needed to make several revisions to the game in a short space of time to eliminate any copyright issues. I believe the first version of the game, Sega was allowed to use Spider-Man's likeness, but in the next revision they actually put a disclaimer at the beginning to back it up. Then Batman was replaced with Devilman...Godzilla became a walking skeleton, and so on and so forth.
Personally I prefer the original.

Programmers and designers had so much more fun back in the days.
Director : Ok so we got a Samurai, a funky drug trip, a Brain in a tank, The Terminator, Spiderman who turns into Batman, GodZilla and we end it all with a Kabuki Actor with very Sharp Hair.
Artist : This is so stupid, but im gonna have so much fun!

In the nuclear transport boss,i would make the naked gun movie joke but that would be unknown to some out there so i skip this one.But in the terminator boss i will go for it calling him the hulkminator.The spidey-bats boss though i think have some variations in the regions of the game.The good bad ending methods though kinda hate them for that.

Was there a version with the real godzilla like this video but with the replaced Batman? I swear the early US copy I had the Godzilla looked like this. I don't remember the skeleton one I'm seeing in other videos.

They had to alter certain characters. Spider Man was pink in one version, Godzilla was a Skeleton, Batman was changed into Devilman, all kinds of odd stuff.
When I used to play this on the Sega Genesis I could never get past the Godzilla Boss. He was super hard.

That's not the japanese version, it's the B and C revisions to the game. They're also shown in the English versions as well. Batman changes to Devilman from the anime comics and films, and Godzilla loses his skin.

There was several revisions of the game, most of which where to replace graphics.
Rambo, Spiderman, Batman, and Godzilla where all replaced in later versions of the game.
when you fight the final boss neo zeed if you did n`t kill him in right time the seiling will kill the girl and you get the bad ending :(
There is a way to destroy the master computer without having to move at all once you find the right spot. Do do so, you must walk up to it and stand a few pixels beyond the extension of the capsule, and in between the first laser eye. The eye itself doesn't retract towards the computer beyond its starting position, and stand between being just beyond the length of the capsule's extension, and between the first laser's vision. Then simply jump and hit the brain with shuriken.
Best ninja game EVER. I've always loved this game and its bosses, some taken from Marvel characters (5:30) with Spiderman, and even the Terminator (2:19). If Ninja Gaiden set the standard for Ninja games, Revenge of Shinobi PERFECTED it. Also, I'd like to note that in the European version I got, Batman doesn't look like Batman, but rather some kind of devil. Also, the Godzilla boss has no skin, and instead a skeleton with guts showing.
