This is a REVIEW of the SIGMA 35mm f1.4 DN Art Lens vs Sony's 35mm f1.4 G Master. Which one should you buy and why? For those that don't know, the DN means digital native, aka built and designed for mirrorless cameras. There's a $500 difference between these two lenses, at the end of the day, if you're just building your lenses out, save the $500 and put it back into other glass.

There's a reason to buy the SIGMA over the SONY for a certain type of photographer.
If I win mega camera giveaway I am definately taking sony lens till then I am okay with sigma😌
Can you offer a bundle of Fro Pack 2 and 3? I already got Fro Pack 1.
Love your comparisons between a gm and some cheaper options :)
Eee I'm using Lumix S5 Jared 😤
Υeah there is. You are not paying for bullshit.
Dude, I love that you're reviews are so real and not canned ! thank you Fro
God I love these lens reviews, really narrows down options for me
What did you end up getting?
@@aqd84 sigma, great lenses they produce over there, for a great price too, it does exactly what I need it to do
I like how people used to say “Just because you have a 1.4 lens, Doesn’t mean you always shoot at 1.4” literally all these shots were taken at 1.4 lol
And why pay a 1.4 premium if you are just going to be at 2 or 2.8? there are good, cheaper choices at those max apertures.
Yeah if I’m buying a1.4 I’m shooting it at 1.4 lmao defeats the purpose
@@semahj Me too but it seems like Jared and others have bitched about shooting at F1.4 all the time.
@@techhead976 I say do whatever gets you paid and make you happy
The statement becomes more true when you're talking about shooting movies. Rarely do we shoot at the fastest aperture a lens can do at midday because, on most films, the ISO and shutter speed remains the same for the entirety of the movie, or at least the entirety of the scene. Aperture is there more to compensate for being dark/bright instead of trying to achieve the silky smooth bokeh.
How does the Sigma DN ART compared to the original Sigma ART released a while ago?
Love the videos. Really happy to see you got Weird Al to make a cameo in this one.
Nikon Z user here. I truly hope Sigma comes out with z mount glass soon. I hate using converters!
Really great review as always 👍🏼
I know the fro is your thing, but I gotta say I was so impressed with how great your curls are in the promo for your preset pack. They suit you so well, I love it!
Great review… any concerns over the focus breathing for video?
how does it compare to the old sigma 1.4 E mount?
A very good review, I was about 2 days from purchasing.
I love the aperture lock. I wish Sony could incorporate that as well...
'm still have my old Sigma Art 35mm for DSRL cameras and i'll never change it!
Do Lightroom presets work on Affinity photo?
I can't wait until we get Sigma lenses for the RF system
I just wonder how long we have to wait for sigma and tamron for RF?
@@danpedraza9586 If only Canikon opened up their lens mount to third-parties sigh… Sigma might be hesitant since they’re in the L-mount alliance and/or they might have some sort of deal which restricts them to which mounts they can make.
Keep waiting
What solution you used to clean your cameras they always shinny?
Any chance for a comparison between the Sony 35mm f1.4 and the 50mm f1.2?
Hello Jared Polin, I would go SIGMAS as I always do, price vs quality winner of all times
Can't wait to see the mural
Dude...I'm shooting the L mount alliance In Jackson WY next week! No Kidding!
I'd really like to hear your opinion of this lens compared to the Sigma 35mm f1.2 ^^
I'm using the f1.2 for three days now and I'm blown away from the image quality, sharpness and chromatic aberrations.
Does this lens keep up when it comes to that points?
The difference in bokeh is'nt worth the 600$ difference in price but the other points could make it worth it...
Thanks!
Would love to see a comparison of the Sigma 35 1.2 & the 1.4. I’m trying to decide what one to get. I’ve shot with the 1.2 for portraits in low low light and had some incredible results. But it’s so much more expensive for a .2 stop of light.
I've been thinking about this too, and will probably buy the 35mm f1.2. Weight isn't that much of an issue for me.
@@ignoranteducator9578 I had the same thoughts but man, that 1090g beast is way much heavier than I thought. I don't know if I'll getting used to it but with the quality in mind I guess i could. Time will tell. Oh and I'm using a SmallRig Cage and that doesn't make it better >.<
Edit: I'm using it on an S5
@@IboKnowsBest Maybe. But i lug around with a 100-400mm all the time when I shoot butterflies, which is pretty much all I shoot...so I might be more biased and desensitised to weightier lenses. Lol
I have the sigma 1.2.. I love it.. but I’m about to sell it because its just too huge to carry around with my even bigger 105 1.4..
In R6 pin relation to presets, what is recommended with picture ? Flat, portrait, etc etc
Also, did you get a killer perm half way though this vid? 👌
Ay got a question, what's better tameron 18-200 or tameron 70-300
Hey Jared, question - I have the Tamron 35-150mm F2-2.8 lens. I absolutely love it. My question is, if I can get F2 at 35mm on that lens, do you think it's worth it to also have 35mm F1.4 or F1.2? I love the rendering of that lens at 35mm F2, and I'm not sure if there would be a big enough difference for me to notice between F1.2/F1.4/F2. If my max aperture on the Tamron were F2.8, I'd be getting a 35mm prime for sure.
I have the TAMRON 35-150 2-2.8 and yes it’s amazing, but a prime like the Sony 35mm 1.4 GM eats it for lunch in IQ, it is my best lens hands down!
You saved me a huge chunk of change. Thanks
The Sony is waaay better than the sigma
0:28 getting it in early I like that.
Jared
Have you ever tested the 40mm f1.4 from Sigma?
How about the autofocus in slow motion video like 120fps?
Thanks for raising awareness of the Sigma. Followup: Compare autofocus speed, accuracy and tracking. Compare bokeh. Thanks!
Disagree on that one about Focus motor speed and quality, it is a big thing, i would prefer to get the future proofing
Why don’t you ever review the Zeiss batis line?
Would love for you to check the Samyang 35mm 1.4. I got the 85mm 1.4 last year and love it.
is the sigma 35 1.4 faster then the sigma 35 1.2 ?
Those photos look crisp.
Hey Jared, a few of us actually do shoot L Mount. I happen to like my Panasonic S1. For the money, I get a solid stills and video camera with few compromises. Stop hating P.
He can be extremely biased. I also have Panasonic and those pics look as good as his from Sony ;P
I have the same Sigma 35/1.4 Art for Nikon F. It's perfect lens, better than Nikon's solutions.
Can we just get a product announcement for something E-Mount that's actually shipping? lol
Why can’t they create for rf and z mount
9:37 Jared: Is there a 500$ difference between the Sony and the Sigma lens?
Me: Yes there is. You just did the Math!
Well in my country sony's GM is 1.699 eur while sigma is 779eur. So there's 920eur difference 😅
So...for video Sony or Sigma?
I love my Sigma 35mm 1.4 For My S5 it's the only lens on my Camera that I use the most
Jared's lens recommendation: "flip an coin" =))
but seriously we need someone to not take reviews too serious. well done Jared!
Honestly I bought the Sony 50mm F1.4 GM, ended up returning it and got the Sony 35mm F1.4 GM instead. IMO the perfect combination is the 35mm for indoor and close environmental portraits and the 85mm for standard portraits. I'm still waiting on Sony to hopefully release a new 85mm F1.2 GM II soon. If they don't release it in the next 6-12 months I'll just get the Sigma 85mm F1.4.
JP loves AOC ooooh lalala 😂😂👌
Great image man!
Yes please i need it so bad 👍❤️
I just bought the Sigma and do a lot of video as well but a bit disappointed with the AF on my A73 with the Sigma. Yes, its cheaper but if I could, I would get rid of the Sigma and shell out for the Sony . We cant return like you do in the US.in Australia.
I’m more interested in seeing their 50 and 85 variants. If they can keep the price around 1k that would be awesome.
They already have the 85 1.4 DGDN
@@Jonny2won and its just amazing i have it With a sony a7riii
@@muhammedyusufkurt4367 For sure. It’s so small and light compared to the other 85 1.4 too
Unfortunately it has very poor close focusing capabilities, where the focus points just don’t look in focus,, it also has allot of LOCA going on until 2.8 and not as sharp as the other two and then there is also the Sony 1.8 that is even cheaper. But it gives options.
Seems like the 35 ZA rehousing. If I want to save money I'd get the Samyang 35 for half the price.
Has anybody professionally reviewed the Samyang 35mm F1.4?
Picture DSC05339 have to much green chromatic aberrations ((((
Too late, already bought the Sony FE 35mm F1.4 GM - and it's amazing!
Same here. Such a epic lens
Ordered my too and it should be here Friday.
The results are amazing. The value per dollar, you got robbed.
@@ChrlzMaraz it’s so nice, you have to try it
On sony 35 f1.4 focus breathing it's bad ,in videos it's too difficult to meet it
Waiting for the Sony 28mm 1.4 GM...
if you don't want it ...ok ... sure I can take it 👍
I'm sorry but, you had the perfect opportunity to say razer sharp focus
Quality and comedy haha awesome
I want it!!!
Love it
I think distortions is a bigger issue than you make it sound even after LR corrections (there’s got to be some pixels re-sampling to straighten it up and that must affects the picture quality), so I would have liked to know how the Sony would fare if it were in the same situation. It would have been nice to compare the height without the shades too. So, it was an entertaining test as it often is, but a rather sloppy one.
I like the slightly shorter length of this video. Perfect for morning coffee, thank you.
I need it for video and stills, the GM lets me use focus-by-wire with a Ronin S electronic pull. The lower mass also helps with gimbal balance, Otherwise I'd be all over the Sigma.
@chris Valle: Focus-by-wire with a Ronin S and Sony? Could you give me more details about your Ronin-Sony-setup? Which cam?
@@pjjjr The a7III and A7sIII, using the USB camera control cable from the Ronin S. DJI has an optional focus pull knob that while not great, gives a quick setup, & easy lens changes (if they're FE with electronic focus). No rails, no gearing or external motors, though you do end up paying a premium for the Sony glass. Again, I use them for stills as well, so it's a workable compromise. I output to a Ninja V with focus peaking, and other than being heavy, it's great for times when I don't want to trust the auto-focus, but don't intend to do a lot of racking, either.
@@chrisvalleqatsi Thanks for your reply, chris. I own a Ronin S, the focus wheel, a Alpha 7RIV and, for example, the Sony 24105G and Sony 1224GM. If I turn the focus wheel, the cam will use the digital zoom. I think, I use the wrong cam settings.
@@pjjjr It's in the PC control settings, I think. I didn't know the zoom was possible, that will be good to explore. It did take me a bit of fiddling to get it working, but the 12-24, and 24-70 GMs both work, I'm sure the 24-105 G will. Any focus-by-wire Sony lens via the DJI Part 5 MCC with the USB-C plug should work.
@@chrisvalleqatsi I've got it. I mad another mistake: I used the MF/AF-switch of the lens. That way doesn't work. If I switch to MF via the camera setting the focus wheel works. Thanks a lot for your support.
Better to go for the Sony, or wait for the Sony 35mm F1.2
will 1.2 happen?
I want it! 🙂
Funny, I just got done watching an "Undone" review of this lens that showed and said it's the worst CA they've ever seen, and then there's this review praising it.
I almost click thumbs up, good thing he said he's not going to give the camera.
I still don't get the L mount alliance meme can someone explain it to me ?
its an alliance cause its used by sigma, lumix and leica. i dunno whats funny about it or any meme. i just think jared is making fun of the fact that nobody uses it.
35GM isn't a temptation because my 35 1.2. A lighter Sony 105 1.4 would be a different story.
Anyways I can only afford the Samyang 35 1.4 hahaha
Samyang 35 is a great lens.
The samyang 35. 1.4 is amazing lens my brother
@@ybmvision3866 ista amazing! i love it! But there are some thing that i would love it to have.
Those shots of the razor blade look sharp😂
the blades have nothing to do with the bokeh wide open at 1.4
I’d like to look but this guy is shooting would like a 56 megapixel camera how would it be with her 24 megapixel
I want this (looks at Sony a7r4)😭
I want the A7R4.
Everyone is talking about Sigmas horrible CA. Whats your opinion about that? Thanks
Wait. He has a 6ft photo of AOC in his house?
Epic size! 😮
I’ll buy the camera
😥😥😥 yo tengo una canon t4i ya quisiera yo tener una de esas camaras
I gave it a thumbs up only for the camera
In my country it costs double
I purchased the Sony 35 gm before this sigma 35 was released so I paid 500 more. Ok, try to justify the extra cash I paid, other than the weight, is there any advantages Sony has over sigma like minimum ficus distance, focus breathing, etc.?
The Sony is built better, better flare resistance, better water resistance, it’s sharper, there’s more contrast, the resale will be better
31 thumbs' down? you all got a problem! >:)
Sony for me. I prefer it over Sigma.
Sony c as n give it to me. My shutter just blew on my iii!
Yea well I get it AOS is good looking hehe
But how about AOC? ;-) ;-)
Yes Send Here A7r4 😲😲😲😲😲😲😲😲😲😲😲😲😲😍
Basically, buy the Sigma because it's cheaper and you need to save any money you can after shelling it out on Sony's most expensive body.
Maybe next time, can we see some photos taken on the A7RIV, and A7C as well, just to prove the quality of the lens on various bodies?
Many reviewers are facing loca and bad CA on Sony bodies :(
I agree that the sigma is the best value at the moment but my problem with these lenses is that on the resale market you almost have to give them away, I have owned multiple Sigma lenses and every time they're very difficult to sell. meanwhile the Sony tends to keep its value and you lose a lot less money in the end.
I sold the original sigma 35 1.4 for $600 - now just debating between the GM or new sigma. I think I’m gonna pocket the savings.
just picked up a 35mm 1.4 for $300 on facebook 😂
Sigma deleted Z mount of F mount or it wasn't actually exist
Hey Jared, would love to see a VS of the higher end crop sensors from each brand (7d mii, d500, a6600
I just want to let you know I did a wind tunnel test and sniff test on my new lens in front of my parents, they now think I'm mentally disabled. Although I do now know the canon 70-200mm f/4L USM is not very aerodynaminc lmao
Can the sigma lens work with the canon r5 ?
Nope you have to buy a Sony A7RIV or an adaptator 😅
this is why i hate my fuji, that grain butter crap gets old and annoying really quick, i can’t wait to switch to sony
One day sigma and tamron will care about nikon z.. One day... 🥺🥺😢😢
You mean one day Nikon will care about Tamron and Sigma
👍👍
i love sony
Blew up a life sized photo of AOC…
Dear Jared I'm the new Sony office. Please return us back this boring Sony A7RIV to my address. Thanks in advance :D
