      @@pokefairyrose that’s great! Looking forward to it. I actually just ordered a handful of old basic lands to learn to paint on.

    I'm a mini painter just getting into alters and I'm so excited to go back and paint up a lot of the lands I had as a kid. Thank you for this video, I love seeing all the different ways alter painters interact with frames and extending the art

    I love those Urza's Saga islands! I was lucky enough to get a whole bunch signed by Donato when I was a kid...back in the late 90s when the artists hadn't started charging for signatures yet. I'm glad they're charging now and getting paid for their time, but young Jared is grateful they didn't back then :)

      Oh that sounds amazing!! Your collection has so many special cards. If only I knew about the game back then…I love the art from those “classic” lands, and are always my go-to when searching through bulk at game stores. They deserve all the love and attention!

    great alter! It was nice being able to see the paint-mixing, and it is a step in the right direction for my own learning in not using too much paint and only making small colour samples at a time rather than big globs of paint haha. I think I'll start trying out a basecoat before I paint anything for future alters, seems like it could be quite helpful!

      I’m so happy you found it helpful! That’s one of the big differences for me between card alters and original paintings - for alters I tend to work in such tiny amounts as I try to match a color, vs a normal painting I would more likely pre mix larger amounts for my palette.

    Thank you so much for this video! I've been thinking about making some MTG alters for a long time now and this video is exactly what i needed. Very helpful to see the process and hear you explaining the thought proces. Do you also have experience using other mediums to make card alters? (makers, pens, pencils, etc.. or other paints maybe? And how did that turn out?)
    Very nice alter, the end result looks so good!

      Thank you so much! I am always happy to share the process. I mostly just use acrylic paints, so do not have much experience beyond that! I have started experimenting with foils, so will let you know how that goes!

      @@pokefairyrose Thanks for the answer! I made my first 2 alters yesterday, a border extention like you did in the video of a basic plains (with acrylics) and another custom art on a swamp (with markers and pens), the turned out pretty well, the video helped a lot! I'm typing this while waiting for the paint on my 3rd alter to dry haha.

    Very cool! Do you recommend using a matte finish? Will that interact with sleeves long term?

    • @pokefairyrose
      @pokefairyrose  Рік тому +2

      I’ve used a satin aerosol varnish, haven’t noticed any sticking or issues with the sleeves yet! I do wonder what would happen though if I left the cards out in the sun/high temp

    • @loganstecher2581
      @loganstecher2581 Рік тому

      @@pokefairyrose Yeah, the high temp was a bit of conceen, but it should be normal practice to keep cards out of sun to avoid sunbleaching. Thanks for input!

    What do you recommend for a cheaper set of paints if you’re broke and can’t afford anything ?

    • @pokefairyrose

      Have you tried Apple barrel fluid paints? When I first started painting I used a really cheap and basic set of heavy body acrylics from the craft store.
