The nukes fell in 2077. But they never developed micro processors, so they didn't even have tech that we have now. They were focused on nuclear power, as the power armor, cars and just about everything was run on nuclear power. They had the 50's/60's futuristic style, which is cool.

They did but way late when compared to our world. FO timeline says the first transistors appear in the 2020.
Yet they somehow had advanced AI. I don't think the lore ever gets into _how,_ but I'm assuming Asimov style positronic brains (obviously without the three Laws), which would fit the retrofuturistic bend of the setting.
Transistors they have. It's the microprocessor that was never developed. It's why their information tech is so much bulkier than what we have.

As someone who's a Fallout fan and finished the first season, you're in for a very good time. It doesn't require you to know about the game before getting in. They done a great job explaining the important bits of the world for newcomers.

47:45 As far as game lore goes, she is pretty much right. When the bombs fell, most people died from the blast or the radiation. However some small percent of the people just got so saturated with radiation that it changed them. Turned them into what we call Ghouls. Time cannot kill them, they don't age, but yes they are rotting a bit and they will live forever, unless something kills them. Some cannot take it and go feral, in which case they are just wild creatures, much like zombies. Radiation no longer harms them and can actually heal them.
There is a lot more to it, but it either is not applicable to the show or is entirely too spoilery. Enjoy the series, I love it!
the best way to explain the concept of the world of fallout is that it's the future as the people of the 1950's would've imagined it, so that's why it is advanced, but in an "old" way
You must notice several things are straight from the game.
Like the using that Stimpack (the metal syringe) to heal herself... and it really healing her. That's totally GAME MECHANICS you know.
I've never played Fallout, so I have yet to learn about the lore. However, I loved this show, and the fantastic sets, practical effects and acting by Walton Goggin, Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten and Moises Arias were all outstanding in this show. The opening to the show alone had me sold. I really appreciate how well this series doesn't need you to rely on the lore of the game, and yet it still keeps you really engaged I'm sure for fans of the game, the Easter Eggs must be huge for them

@@Fikry-en8iz Fallout 3's main story is kinda dodoo, the weakest of the main ones, but it does have a lot of good side content.
Fallout 4 is the easiest to jump into. I would recommend playing that one first. It's also the best one honestly
Fallout 3 age is showing but I will never forget the moment I stepped out of the vault for the first time, Fallout: New Vegas is also a bit old BUT it has probably the best story and world in the series DLC also very good, Fallout 4 has the best gameplay as it has a newer game engine so gameplay and graphics are better, story isn't the best but it's not all bad either, it's a fun ride either way.
@@din0nid Personally think Fallout 4's writing is kinda mediocre, particularily the dialogue. But it does have the best gameplay and exploration perhaps. While New Vegas has the best story, writing and player choice, with it not even being close.
The dude that got killed with a doll's leg was on the business end of a junk launcher. Pretty much exactly what it sounds like. Whatever you can throw in there it will spit out at your target at uncomfortable speeds. The idea of obliterating someone with a shoe, a He-Man action figure and a bootleg VHS tape of a Very Special Episode of Blossom is fun. I said to my wife that the only bad part is finding crap worthless enough to load it with, but she simply asked "why not just load it with rocks?"

Context for the weird mix of futuristic and old technology without spoilers, Fallout is set in an alternate timeline where the Cold War never ended and the bombs eventually dropped. Its design and aesthetic philosophy are built on retrofuturism, where they look at what old predictions of the future was going to look like during like the 50s-60s and used that as the template. So, the bombs technically drop in the year 2077 and some technology is wildly more advanced than things we even have now, but its also wrapped up in the trappings of how people still living with monochrome tv and radio would've expected those new techs to develop and integrate into their everyday lives.

Fallout is more like an alternate universe where small transistors/microprocessors (Computer Chips basically) didn't get invented, instead nuclear/fusion technology advanced.
So while some tech is advance other areas lagged behind, you got power armor with a fusion core and a nuclear powered Bel Air.
This world kept the retro 50s aesthetics well into their equivalente 21st centuries, then the bombs fell.
Not so fun fact, the bombs that were used were "Atomic bombs", the exact same ones used in ww2, as opposed to our world were we have Hydrogen bombs, the difference? you'd only need 4 at most of our bombs to cover Britain, they need several dozens

Fallout is retrofuturism based around the 1950s vision of the future. Like an alternate timeline where they went hard into atomic energy but never developed the integrated circuit, so everything is bulky with vacuum tubes and shit.
Someone in another Fallout reaction channel's comment section referred to Aaron Moten (Maximus) as 'Cuba Gooding Majors'. It is forever burned in my brain, and now it will be forever burned in yours as well. That said, Moten is a great actor. I love his facial expressions. The entire cast of this show is amazing.
7:38 there are over 200 vaults in thr USA alone. The lore hasnt mentioned any variant outside of the USA , Vault 31-33 are connected.
No other Vault is like this so far .
Just do ya now. Water makes explosions worse. Basically instead of being hit by a shock waves through gas, you get hit with a brick wall through water. Liquid intensifies shockwaves.

Fallout is pretty much what people in the 1950's thought the future would be like. Technology became super dependent on nuclear fission and so it developed differently from our own.
In the Fallout lore, these bombs was not focused on direct destruction. Normally nukes would blind someone from that distance for hours, but these ones don't have energy like that. However...Those bombs were made specifically for radiation. They have insane insane amounts of radiation, that is mostly their purpose.
The Nuke explosion scene is so powerful and sort of accurate , from that distance it would take a while for the shockwave to travel to you
I always notice people say the dude has asthma when he inhales from the pump, in Fallout those are called Chems, drugs that makes you stronger like Psycho, Buffout, Mentats (Pills), etc...kinda like Steroids and the needle she used is Stimpack which heals
and the one that raider uses is specifically called Jet, which is made from the fumes of Brahmin (Cows) dung.

In the game all the older music you listen to as things happen you also listen to on your pipboy as you play.. they actually used the same songs that they use in the game.. it’s the small details that make this show great…
Hiding underwater would not help against a nuclear blast whatsoever, at ground zero the fission reaction can reach up to 100 million degrees Celcius which is about 10,000 times the temperature at which water turns into plasma. Even if you somehow survived the pressure wave or the heat, the fallout would irradiate you and kill you in an even more painful way. When it comes to nuclear war, I'll quote the 1980's movie WarGames: "the only winning move is not to play"

"Oh he had asthma too" gave me a great laugh. He was hitting a hallucinogenic drug called "Jet". Its super addictive. In the games it gives you more Action Points which technically makes you a little faster based on how those are used.

Fallout exists in an alternate history where semi conductors were never invented. So certain technology stalled like space travel while others advanced significantly such as the power suits

The power armor is old-school military in this world. It was used extensively in the great war 219 years ago. The Brotherhod of Steel is all about collecting pre-war tech. ALL about it.

Also the guys in the power armor are the Brotherhood of Steel, a pseudo-religious order founded immediately after the one-day-long Great War of 2077 to find, preserve, and sequester high technology in order to ensure that nothing like the War could ever happen again. They're not Raiders - in fact, they hate Raiders almost as badly as they hate Super Mutants (large human-like creatures caused by exposing people to the Forced Evolutionary Virus) and ghouls (people with a rare mutation that causes them to look like zombies when massively irradiated instead of dying - they become functionally immortal, but some also have their brains begin to decay and go feral). That's not to say that they're terribly invested in protecting innocent bystanders; they hate Raiders because Raiders will frequently capture Old World weapons and try to use them against the Brotherhood. The loss of civilian life in such encounters is regarded as a regrettable necessity.
One of my first games ever as a kid was fallout. I saw my dad and uncle start the game and it looked fun so I tried it. It became one of my favorite games ever! This show definitely did the game justice. It stays very true to the game😩

There are at least 118 Vaults scattered across the US - Vault 118 is on Mount Desert Island in Maine. Most of them were the homes of horrific experiments as part of the Societal Preservation Program. Vaults 32 and 33 appear to have been linked but set up to never open (most were scheduled to open up after 20 to 25 years, and some had specific conditions that had to be met, like Vault 11 where the AI told the residents that one of their number was to be sacrificed per year to save the rest of them but was secretly programmed to release them when they refused. That didn't happen for almost 200 years, by which time there were only 5 people left).
122 from the Fallout Bible I believe, and 118 is the largest numbered vault we have seen. 120 was planned for Fallout 4 but scrapped
@@Juan-tm8fk Yeah, that's why I said "at least". Anything in the Fallout Bible is subject to change as needed, as the "canon" is what appears in the main games and now in the show. We've seen up to 118, but there could easily be more. Also, the numbering apparently isn't sequential - given numbering order, I was expecting Vaults 32 and 33 to be in Texas, but clearly I was mistaken. (Vault 39 was in Abilene, TX, in the non-canon game Brotherhood Tactics 2.) On reflection I suppose that's unsurprising, as Vault 13 is in California and Vault 3 is inside the former city limits of Las Vegas.
@@DeaconBlues117 Vault 11, 19, 21, 22, 24 and 34 are also all around the Nevada/New Vegas area, so yeah the numbering is kinda arbitrary.
One thing I liked is that they had these vaults linked, which I'm sure they realized would make game players question, as that was never done in the games (to my knowledge). But by the end....there's a logical reason for them to be connected underground.

Yes, Aaron Moten (Maximus) looks like Denzel Washington and Ella Purnell (Lucy) looks like Emma Stone. Not sure why more people aren't mentioning it. Especially when it comes to her big eyes.
I love the whole cast, the attention to details, and the balance of humor and horror. They really pulled off a real good adaptation!

Fallout is one of the most popular and successful video game franchises of all time. So it amazes me to find so many reactors say they know so little about it. Every reaction channel I’ve seen has at least one if not all of the reactors say they have never played or they only played a little bit of an older version of the game.
The series is pretty spot on with its game lore. Incorporates elements from both Interplay and Bethesda days, to the show’s benefit. Kept the satire, social commentary and violence of the games. Could not ask for a better adaptation. To hell with the fanboys, and they are almost always blokes with invested fandom adherence, who don’t appreciate a great adaptation when they see it.
Regarding the tech, basically, the integrated circuit never got discovered in the Fallout universe. Neither did LEDs. So computers are huge.

One note: Mormons don't practice incest any more than the rest of us. You may be thinking of the Mormon Fundamentalists. They actually were excommunicated from the Mormon Church ages ago for refusing to stop practicing polygamy. They usually live in small, reclusive communities, where I imagine incest is much more common.

one thing you gotta know about the fallout universe is it takes place in an alternate timeline. basically at some point it splits from what we know from our real world. so they have advanced tech like nuclear power and other stuff, but they never made the microchip. so all they tech looks like what people in the 40's would think the future looks like. their tech still uses vacuum tubes, so its usually bigger. they also still have that old timey vibe.
Techwise: 2077 Before the bomb is both retro and futuristic, the circuit board was never invented so they progressed another 150 years based on the vacuum tube tech. THEN the world blew up, and we pick it up generations after that.

The weapon at the graveyard is called the 'junk jet', the coolest weapon in the game. Fallout involves picking up a LOT of junk, this giant cannon allows you to load anything into it and kill people with it. Teddy bears are a favorite option.
The Fallout universe can be considered “Retro Futuristic” It plays with the idea of what people in the 1950’s thought the future was going to look like and ran with it. In the Fallout universe everything is the same as ours up until the end of WW2. After the war the entire world embraces atomic energy so energy is cheap and freely available. Also the transistor was never invented in this universe so all the electronics have that bulky look because they still run on vacuum tubes. The current events before this episode are the US and China have been locked in a war for around 10 years. China invaded Alaska but the U.S. fought and defeated them the biggest battle being the “Battle of Anchorage” After pushing out the Chinese the U.S. invaded mainland China and is slowly pushing back the Red army. The wars started because natural resources are dwindling from decades of careless consumption and we are starting to run out of things. There’s wars abroad trying to capture more resources meanwhile riots break out due to low or no supplies of things. Society has already began to unravel even though the first episode seems like things are going well….But they’re not.
Despite Lucy’s all American girl accent the actress comes from Whitechapel London famous for Jack the Ripper.

There are more than 30 vaults in fact we never knew about 31 32 33 until this show is apart of the fallout lore now we that have played the games can tell you there are so many vaults some we know about others we may get in the next fallout game

ITs actually alternate history, retro punk futuristic. Its like a world where all super conductive metals are rare, so still use tubes and stuff.
IIRC it has nothing to do with conductive metals, but transistors and thus semiconductors were only invented right before the bombs fell. So they existed, but were not widespread yet.

idk if you'll see this but fallout takes place in a retro timeline were nuclear has advanced us but instead of making modern they just kept using a updated model of tech from the 1970-40s just using nuclear to power it and andaved what they already had and when the bombs dropped it was 2077

I didn't even know this was based on a game. I don't play video games, but I loved this show.
Some non spoiler info... this universe is an alternate future. It begins in the past showing how the universe it different. In their universe they didnt perfect computer science and specifically the electric compositor. Instesd they perfected the use of vacuum tubes and nuclear fusion. Everything they have runs on nuclear energy.
Main factions are Brotherhood of Steel or BOS. They are obsessed with safeguarding old world tech almost religiously so and develope i want to control the wasteland. They have multiple factions that serve under the same codex.
The enclave are made of members of the old US government. They want to obviously retake control of America.
The NCR or New California Republic are a new group of people comprised of normal wastelanders setting up a nee government for the people.
The great war that lead to the bombs was a conflict between the USA and China. To the point where China was constantly trying to take over parts of the US... Alaska being a main plot point that will be mentioned just briefly. But its very nearly if not a cold war at that point.
