WHAT'S IN THE VIDEO?
00:00 - Introduction
00:36 - Why I bought the RT95
02:18 - About the radio
03:12 - Dual Watch demonstration
12:42 - Using the Retevis RT95 on the Sunday 8-Net in Bristol, UK
After using the tiny RT98 on most of my recent tests, I have found a couple of limitations with the radio. I purchased the RT95 to address the following three issues...
1. RT95 has a clear display with an excellent 9 point signal meter for clear signal reports
2. Much better speaker quality when not using external speaker/line out.
3. Detachable microphone.

I bought one of these 18 months ago. I intended to use it in the car but decided to get to know it by using it as my VHF/UHF rig at home first. WOW, it is far better then I ever expected. The receiver sensitivity is exceptional and both TX and RX audio is first class. I bought a second one for the car as I just had to keep this first one forever in the house. I can certainly recommend this radio...John EI2HO, Dublin Ireland.
Couldn't agree more. I only use it in the car but it's nice and simple to use, does enough and sounds great. Excellent value.
Just waiting for one of these beauties to be delivered thanks for a very informative video, I've subscribed to you and rung the bell too :)
Enjoy! I'm loving using it in the car. Perfect middle ground radio when you don't need too many features.
Looking forward to this - this radio looks excellent.
Fast forward a few months and i now have this radio. Love it, works so well!
Thank you for reviewing this radio. Happy New Year.
Happy New Year to you too!
Great review, the radio looks and operates just like my anytone 778uv , great value for the money.
Yep. Same radio. They just churn them out and badge them up. Can’t argue for £120 though!
The RT95 are a great little radio but how do you get them working on the PMR channels ?
Looking and sounding good thanks for recording the 8 @ 8 net top job td14 until next time ct3490 bid you 73's best of luck
Nice review, thanks for that! Just got one myself (oh well, with an Anytone badge). Haven't connected it yet, but some of my HAM friends already have one in their car and they think it's absolutely amazing. These radios come very cheap over here in Holland. The common price is € 99,-- (No Ali, but at the official dealers).
Thnx again and 73!

Yes, I have this permanently in my car now. It’s the perfect middle ground between capable but not over-complex (which you just don’t need in-vehicle IMHO). Really nicely made and silent!!!
Finally a review on this radio from some one who actually paid for it. Every other review I've seen has been tainted by a free radio from Retevis.
As a kid I had a 40ch car radio on mains PSU. King of the mountain with my SWR meter.
Hi how can I get out of VFO mode into channel mode, by hand? Not on a computer I don't have the software. Mine gives a error when I pressed P2. Thanks.
Am planning to buy one What Antenna can you recommend? Thanks.
What type of power supply would you use for home?
may I ask please, do I need an antenna for my 4x4 and if so, what will you recommend as I am a beginner, Thanks. Love your videos. @RROverland
hey, what kind of adaptor do i need to plug this in domesitcially ?
Any idea of how to adjust the mic gain on this radio?
hello little help can i use this radio as a repeater and can input in frequency mode what frequency i want to use without cable and program just with the microphone
Hi, I have just gained my Foundation, now M7BVK. I have just purchased the RT95, like you I was a little surprised by th size of it as you where. I have a very basic knowledge of radios etc. And would welcome some advice, firstly a power unit for it, I have a man cave in my garden with mains electricity. Any recommendations on a PSU. Also antenna, again any recommendations? I have seen on here someone using a car magmount with a metal base , no sure what you think of this?
Any help or advise from you or your subscribers would be gratefully appreciated.
Kind regards
Pete M7BVK
Hello, can you help me? I hesitate to buy an RT95. But watching your video, I notice that the power is not as advertised. I use UHF 400-430mhz. Do you know the TYT THUV8000D? they have the same characteristics, right? In practice, they seem identical? Also, it seems that the RT95 is a marvel. Thank you my friend. AL
Great review Miles, and great detail too! Really considering this unit or one of its variants… quick question, what did you use for a mic clip, given that this microphone has a ring hook clip as opposed to the coin-style one. Thanks!
Good question. I don’t mind the use of a hook but I literally have nothing to hook this on in my car. I don’t want to screw or stick anything to the dash so I end up putting the mic in the cup holder! 😃
@@tdcattech I’m the same! I’m too scared to do permanently fix anything haha. But thanks for replying! I might bodge something that clips to the vents, almost like a coat hanger! Great review again chap, you’ve sold it to me!
If you're going to sell the car, the last thing I would want as a buyer is any permanent mark of fittings and fixtures. I avoid them wherever possible. Thanks for the feedback. It's a nice little radio. The lack of fan is amazing!
Isn't this the same as the Motorola FT2980?
Czy ten Retevis też się mocno grzeje jak CRT Micron?
Your audio levels are a bit irregular, you mumble a few times and its hard to hear what youre saying. I used autogen subtitles. But! thank you! still good and helpful video!
Doesn't come with a plug?
Radio retevis love my
was about to buy one of these until I saw how slow it scanned.......
It is a little slow but I still use this radio in my car and it does the job.
Hi are you aware that this radio is illegal to use on PMR as it is multiband for Amateur use only, PMR can only use 500mw and the radio must only have PMR frequencies . See Ofcoms info for PMR, I am only advising so you keep trouble free as it is monitored.
Ofcom DONT GIVE A FUCK!
Well, that is where you are wrong. and no need to swear! there are big changes to all Amateur and private radio, so do some research!
I dont have licence and i use yaesu in home and outside vhf and uhf never have trouble by ofcom sir have fun enjoy life sir we are not communists country no body listen and it they listen nobody care ! Use this radio or any others with brain and have fun ! Jesus dose anybody living in 2022 or still in 1970 sir talk and respect others !
Hahahaha
The whole instructional part of the video was pretty informative but casting part not so much.
On the received signals .....it seems to have a 560 Hz peak.... Q of 33. Annoying and affects intelligibility.
I’m nearly 3 minutes in and learned nothing about this radio. You are busy talking about it’s predecessor
I need a fast scanner radio, Chinese radios are incredibly slow, i cant believe they cant fix the firmware to be more like Japanese ones.....anyway i wont buy this crap.
hello little help can i use this radio as a repeater and can input in frequency mode what frequency i want to use without cable and program?
No
