AoS is great in my opinion. It is an young setting, where still plentiful amount of new lore can be forged and new characters and factions established.
Yea, I don't want to be one of those guys, but I am. For real, hearing this just makes me feel more and more justified in my hate of AoS. It sounds like it was written by a 12 year old.
getting into warhammer lore after falling in love with total war WH2 and my brain is exploding tryin to catch up on 30 years of fantasy lore and now AOS wow just wow...
Keep in mind tho total war warhammer is old world fantasy which entirely different from warhammer age of sigmar. Me personally I'm a warhammer 40k fanboy but recently getting curious about age of sigmar since, old world warhammer is discontinued, only total war warhammer 3 is sorta "keeping it alive" but eventually it's gonna end there and age of sigmar is gonna be a the new series.
Thats the problem. Age of Smegma is for people who like WH40K and Marvel, instead of the old fans of Warhammer fantasy. Real Warhammer fantasy fans hate AOS like the plauge. Pretend AOS never happened
Right now the majority of their tech is on the same level as it was in the Old World, however they have been known to reverse engineer technology that they come across and there's even a story where they repurprose and refit an entire Kharadron Overlord Fleet
Other than the fliyng ships they also have submarines and ,even thought i don't know if is considered technology, they can build cities between the planes of existance
I dunno.. Age of Sigmar is too “High Fantasy” for me. Too… mythological. I prefer the Old World because it had its root to somewhat realistic foundations atleast.
Well, maybe it's not realistic, but it's still very dark. It's about pure Order vs Chaos, Civilization vs Savagery. You can play many grim, dark scenarios.
I knew AoS came to be, because 40k outsold Warhammer Fantasy by massive amounts and that Stormcast Eternals are basically Space Marines. But Man, GW basically took 40K and only changed some details for the general lore.
Damn summing up all of AOS in 30 minutes really doesn't do the game its credit, but still, this was impressive! I'd love to see you deep dive and give some of these stories, factions and whatnot the time and breathing room they deserve.
Thank you for being brave enough to dip your toes into AoS. I know you're going to get a lot of hate for acknowledging that things have moved on but hopefully, as a respected member of the whfb community, you can help people get past the knee jerk "new = bad" reaction to it.
I litterly joined Warhammer during aos and I gotta say some of this stuff is just bad plus it's niegh impossible to get lore on alot of characters unlike 40k & fantasy where it was easy to look up and find
Thank you for this video. I'm playing AOS since v3 but I didn't know enough about the lore. I prefer 40k's lore still but know it's a bit more immersive
The lore in this setting just doesn't do it for me at all... I really wish I could enjoy this - WHFB has been a part of my life for ages and to see it abandoned for the sake of supporting this instead felt insulting as hell. Also, End Times... Ugh. As a consequence, I don't think I ever really gave AoS a real chance, but even now that the game itself has reached a state where it's actually enjoyable rather than gimmicky and oversimplified (seriously, that launch was a disaster), I still can't seem to get into it. Hopefully one day they'll find an angle for the setting that clicks with me...
That was much needed! :) cannot be ignorant about AOS.. It's still our lovely warhammer after all. I am surprised about not much talk about archeon there tho, would love to hear more about that:)
I know this comment is old but here's some fun trivia: Before Chaos had invaded the Mortal Realms Archaon actually was the Vanguard for Chaos invading many planets similar to the world that was before finding the realms. After claiming The All Points (a sort of gateway between all realms with huge gateways that can move entire armies through) he literally set up a trophy collection of the planets he's destroyed just hanging in orbit of the now called Eight Points for all to be reminded who the Harbinger of the apocalypse really is. Like some of the most cartoonishly metal stuff and I absolutely love it.
Last time we saw him he was trying to free Slaanesh, but he had to come back to his tower when it came under attack by Katakros, the leader of the Ossiarch Bonereapers. Although he managed to push back the undeads, Katakros managed to not only retake the realm gate connecting the Varanspire and Shyish but he also built a great forteress there, a feat no other faction had achieved so far.
If 40k Total war is impossible, how about an Age of Sigmar total war? Before anyone blasts me, hear me out. Unlike the writers at GW, we have AOS:TW with BETTER narrative and great storylines for the factions that GW isn't doing a goodjob with. And since ALOT of fans want to see End Times content in TW:W, (Stormfiends are HEAVILY requested to be in the game) I see nothing wrong with a game revolving around AOS. Plus, AOS is can still use the close-quarters medieval-styled strategy seeing that it is a sequel (Reboot) to WFB. Plus it will give more time and content for GW's upcoming Old World when it does releases. AOS can be focused, giving more time for GW to work on Old World. Thoughts on this?
Funny enough not really! So the Orcs actually follow the look of some old Orcs from like the 90s! So what we have now is an old subculture brought back :)
That's only a specific breed of Orruk that mainly gather within the Kruleboyz Warclans, also known as Morruks since majority of them idolize Mork and are more devious almost grot like but with a brawny temper, while their brawny counterparts that look more warhammer traditional and are goofy as hell, they have metal eating war Boars that shit out somewhat soft metal that the Ironjawz literally punch into vaguely armour shaped pieces before it goes hard just to show just how 'ard they are. These Orruks worship Gork. And Bonesplitterz idolize Gorkamorka in his entirety.
Meanwhile the Lizar- I mean Seraphon have only gotten 1 new model since AoS started with the core units (Saurus, Skinks, Kroxigors) being the same models since 2003 (the very first time I saw them back in 6th edition. I'm also not a fan of all the named Characters for them being only Slann, especially with GW continuing to sell their models as generic: "Oldblood on Carnosaur, Sunblood, Starseer". If you're going to use their models, at least give them their names GW.
I really love 40k and Fantasy Lore and i just couldn’t get into AOS. The End times is a really good setting but i just don’t like how it ended up and now all my favorite characters and factions are gone.
Y’all are misinformed if you think AOS is any less of a setting than WHFB and 40k. The literal same writers you know and love have been putting out amazing novels on the setting. The setting itself is very epic and deep, broken realms is a masterpiece of storytelling. Also the Soulbound RPG has expanded greatly on Age of Sigmar. I have read many 40k, HH and WHFB novels. I can honestly tell you that AOS is just as good if not more grand and awe inspiring
I'm new here and a bit intimidated to invest in AoS. All efforts went to 40k since the release of the original DoW, but something pulls me here a bit. Is AoS lore as Grimdark as 40k? are the stories and characters ridiculously and stupidly fun like 40k or is it serious? Had to comment first before watching, So I get an opinion from commenters.
Wait, I thought Sigmar just wandered off when he was around really old. Where was Sigmar during the time of the Old World? Was he just wandering around when the Old World until it got destroyed? Was he cast into the void after that? I'm missing something here.
Any human or elf faction that has units on the tabletop that are primarily firearm wielding infantry. I've seen in some Warhammer total war videos that some exist in that game. I have nothing against a fantasy setting but I do like guns lol. I'm talking about basic infantry or elite infantry units whose primary weapons are like rifles or muskets or something like that. Anything?
Cities of sigmar use mobile fortifications and rifles. Often teaming up with dwarf engineer crews managing artillery. Check out freeguild fusiliers as a starting point
@@romanvexillum1991honestly I think it would be better off as it’s own thing or for GW to retcon things to where the end times caused two parallel worlds. One where chaos won that resulted in AoS and the otheb where chaos got it’s ass through kicked
Thanks for the video, I'm new to AOS and have recently gotten into it through soulbound RPG, after playing WFRP for years and I have a question about physicality of people and other races living in particular realms. in wfrp being exposed to winds of magic for a lot of time brought traits kinda similar to mutations, e.g. druids could grow leaves from hair and wood elves sometimes were depicted with horns. is it the dame in AOS? do people from ghyran grow leaves or have a bit greenish tint to their skin? Could duardin living in ghur grow tusks? I'd appreciate an answer from someone who understands AOS better a lot, thanks in advance
Significantly delayed response but here it goes: Yesn't. The Realms influence the people born in them by the aspects of the dominant Wind of Magic present there. Such as in Aqshy (Fire), people are more aggressive, short-tempered, industrious and passionate. However, usually beyond these traits, which manifest on a spectrum of intensity, it doesn't go much further. Human Wizards however, since they're directly channeling the Winds of the Realms still, do suffer the same "mutations" you mentioned before, arguably MORE SO now as there's a lot more ambient Magic available than was in the Old World. At the "Realm's Edge", where the Winds grow intense to the point that they're all-encompassing of reality, however, even normal Humans, Elves, Dwarfs and even Gods start suffering effects from that given Wind, unless they're already associated with it, like Alarielle to Ghyran (Life).
I'll be completely honest, while I do think GW have improved massively since the (Business 101 crash-course in how-not-to-) launch, I still maintain that the setting of AoS has yet to reach the level of accessibility that WHFB had. I dunno, I just feel it was/is just easier to get a grasp on how the Warhammer world works.
@@TheGreatBookofGrudges It's gotten A LOT better, but... I'll still pick the Karaz Ankor over the Fyreslayers/Kharadron Overlords/Dispossessed. Although, if GW were to release some dedicated melee boarding units and a Khrundhal-battleship...
I quit when they blew up Warhammer Fantasy so I never learned about any of the lore of AoS...I have to say, I'm glad I didn't bother. What a ridiculous half baked mess that comes across like an indi dev tryhard video game arpg plot. P.S. Nothing against you bud but the Old World was far superior as a fantasy setting to the crap messy lore of AoS.
As warhammer 40k fan, i personally wasn't pay attention about the "fantasy" version and from my understanding when age of sigmar first became a thing its essentially a "Reboot and rework" of warhammer fantasy. I recently got into warhammer fantasy and, of course, "age of sigmar" just outta curiosity but for reason i kinda prefer warhammer old world 🌎 more cause it felt more grounded 😅 than the current "age of sigmar" version and from my understanding "age of sigmar" is essentially a HIGH FANTASY setting while warhammer fantasy old world 🌎 setting was a low fantasy setting. I think "age of sigmar" would be popular if they focus on the world 🌎 building more and give more details how the world is and how each faction homeland looks like. That way the fans get to have a better understanding. Old world fantasy setting is literally based on our world 🌎 landscape with Atlantis being the real thing which elves occupied it.
Cool video man, but try as I might, I can't get into this setting as much as 40k or Fantasy. It's like Greek mythology. It kinda makes sense, but in a super abstract and cerebral way. Hopefully future lore videos help flesh it out and give it some meat. And I hear the tabletop is fun at least 🤙 Edit: Can Stormcast Eternals die? And if not, what are the stakes for the forces of order? Not trying to be shitty, genuine question. Is it just like, don't let x village burn, or is there some bigger threat that wasn't covered in this video?
I'd like to hear more about the setting. I see potential in it but Warhammer Fantasy will always be superior. The biggest reason to why that is the case is because you habe have a sense of scale, threat and territory. It was a clear map that put things into context to where everyone was. The mortal realms of aos are a bit too abstract and I have no sense where everyone is or what they are fighting for. There are also not enough of leaders or figureheads for factions.
@@TheGreatBookofGrudges AoS has dozens of maps which all feel irrelevant and not worth fighting for. There is completely no emotion connected with Aridian & Capilaria in the Great Parch. These territories could switch places and nothing would change for the overall setting of Aqshy . In WH Fantasy the places meant something with all the neigborhood rivalries and interactions.
A friend got one of the AoS starter sets and we are going to give it a go. Have only every played the total war series so I know nothing about table top. What gets me about AoS is the mini designs. They seem a lot more fake to me (if that makes sense. I just love the aesthetic of fantasy. Seemed more real, believable if you will which make sense given how much inspiration they took from irl history. AoS feels more….cartoonish? Not sure how I feel about this space-fantasy-esc crossover? I dunno. Maybe I’ll get used to it.
It's definitely more of a mythic/ high fantasy style, and I believe that's intentional. AoS is deriving a lot of it's style from greco-roman and classical/ancient art/armor/archtecture, which often go for an idolized form rather than a realistic one.
Technically a great video. It really started of great but then the orcs were the topic and bro.... Waaaay to detailed in comparison to all the other factions. It felt like an introduction to the cruel boys.
Well the book that GW supplied me with was literally the intro to the Kruleboyz my dude I went off the lore they supplied me with as per the contract lol
Seems like Grand Alliance order is a generally evil group, and grand alliance death(Nagash) is actually relatively good by comparison. Nagash tolerates free mortals in his realm as long as they respect him, he wages war on chaos, he simply had to gather the shyish power to himself to accomplish it and help correct the cycle of life and death. The gods of grand alliance order betrayed Nagash and the cycle of life and death by creating separate armies/races with souls that should have gone to the realms of the dead. The stormcast eternals are the most obvious, where sigmar creates an army of automatons out of the greatest warriors. The elves used souls of their own that they took from Slanesh to make a new race, which should have gone to Nagash. There are a few other cases where the gods cheat Nagash prior to his "betrayal". Nagash may have been evil in the old world, but it seems he may have learned a lot from the destruction of the old world.

I don't think there will be a Total War AoS. I think this type of world would work better in a Dawn of War style game
@@HeleentheArcane That has to be the most tired and cliché talking point people say about AoS. In truth it would work great in a TW game.
So basically this is a primer episode for AOS...
I like it
AoS is great in my opinion. It is an young setting, where still plentiful amount of new lore can be forged and new characters and factions established.
Yea, I don't want to be one of those guys, but I am. For real, hearing this just makes me feel more and more justified in my hate of AoS. It sounds like it was written by a 12 year old.
@@sassyviking6003 Is still better than 40K though.
@@1YCARADOFACAO ya that isn’t hard though
@@1YCARADOFACAO Yes.
@@sassyviking6003 And 40k doesn’t?
Awesome, watching this after getting the AoS Warrior Starter Set.
someone on Forbes described AoS as "HOPEPUNK"
getting into warhammer lore after falling in love with total war WH2 and my brain is exploding tryin to catch up on 30 years of fantasy lore and now AOS wow just wow...
I really like AoS myself. The subfactions are super interesting. Like the Death's Ossiarch Bonereapers or Destruction's Boneslitterz.
its weird hybrid of 40k and fantasy. Chaos warriors were coolest model in any warhammer game and now there is wannabe space marines everywhere.
If you want a dream team to fight chaos you gotta get Gorkamorka on the team
Those kind of videos Nathan are so great. I'm eager to see more of them in the future.
Thanks Nathen.
I have been searching for this kind of video for a few years now.
👍
Thanks for the vid! Been considering to get seraphon and to fight for the great plan and greater good!
AoS Heresy ? You going the Book for sure. Kiddin aside I like most Lore books and AoS Lore has improved with Broken Realms
How much tech do the skaven have in the lore currently? It can't be too much right?
Right now the majority of their tech is on the same level as it was in the Old World, however they have been known to reverse engineer technology that they come across and there's even a story where they repurprose and refit an entire Kharadron Overlord Fleet
Other than the fliyng ships they also have submarines and ,even thought i don't know if is considered technology, they can build cities between the planes of existance
Can we get an update? Thanks for all you do!
Love aos slowly painting an army so I’m all for it!
I dunno.. Age of Sigmar is too “High Fantasy” for me. Too… mythological. I prefer the Old World because it had its root to somewhat realistic foundations atleast.
@@TheGreatBookofGrudges indeed :)
And that is literally why I like it.
Same
Well, maybe it's not realistic, but it's still very dark. It's about pure Order vs Chaos, Civilization vs Savagery. You can play many grim, dark scenarios.
@@MossyMenhir the world itself was.mkre realistic. The settings also.
AOS may be more incredible than I initially thought….
Thank you for the video, I've been itching to get lore'd up on Age of Sigmar and the latest developments of the setting! :D
I like it, i find the setting really cool. Its somewhat what i imagine the old ones from WH fantasy were doing before the polar gates collapsed.
I knew AoS came to be, because 40k outsold Warhammer Fantasy by massive amounts and that Stormcast Eternals are basically Space Marines. But Man, GW basically took 40K and only changed some details for the general lore.
The lore for this game rocks. Talk about a glow up from its shaky early days.
I am amazed how CA trade old wolrd for this crazy AOS, this is like low cost 40K
Aos is old .. the old world is the new lore...
Get past your knee jerk reaction to it
I litterly joined Warhammer during aos and I gotta say some of this stuff is just bad plus it's niegh impossible to get lore on alot of characters unlike 40k & fantasy where it was easy to look up and find
It's like final fantasy 14 with the addition of the chaos factions from 40K
That was much needed! :) cannot be ignorant about AOS.. It's still our lovely warhammer after all.
I am surprised about not much talk about archeon there tho, would love to hear more about that:)
I went by the book the AOS team sent me there will be more videos to come :)
Great to hear that!
I know this comment is old but here's some fun trivia:
Before Chaos had invaded the Mortal Realms Archaon actually was the Vanguard for Chaos invading many planets similar to the world that was before finding the realms.
@@joemamajoastar8708
I hope they make an AOS total war game. What's Archaon up to? Is he just chilling in his tower?
Last time we saw him he was trying to free Slaanesh, but he had to come back to his tower when it came under attack by Katakros, the leader of the Ossiarch Bonereapers. Although he managed to push back the undeads, Katakros managed to not only retake the realm gate connecting the Varanspire and Shyish but he also built a great forteress there, a feat no other faction had achieved so far.
This epic I would love to see more videos in the future on AoS
Thoughts on this?
fuck the wh total war, the rts aspect of the game is so bad
I personally really want a Shadow of Mordor style Aos game with more role playing elements
They should have just used the opportunity to combine AoS and WH40k together and have sigmar be the emperor
Wish I could get a sponsor from Warhammer! 😓
I've noticed they changed the aesthetic of the greenskins severely. They look almost LOTR-ish now.
Malus is not the name of the World-that-was, but the name of its remaining core ;)
Great video dude, :)
I really love 40k and Fantasy Lore and i just couldn’t get into AOS. The End times is a really good setting but i just don’t like how it ended up and now all my favorite characters and factions are gone.
I understand that they needed to update the rules, but I hate that they killed the Old World.
What a farcry from the interesting world of Mallus
Where are the animations from? The video was cool to listen to but those animations looked like they'd be cool to watch as well
I am here to preach the word of snek even in AoS!
Then you’ll probably like the Daughters of Khaine, Medusa and Lamias for days.
@@InquisitorThomas I only intend to preach for the proper snek, not those half snek hybrids
@@middykins7963 Seraphon then? Unless you want a new Snakemen of Kuresh faction, which is... not very likely.
I like to link the two Lores, that Sigmar, is also emperor Karl Franz, then transcended into the Emperor of Man in 40k. Why not?! lol
No, just the writing was/ is really poor for AOS most of the time...
Thanks for doing this video I hope it will get some more people into AoS.
Check out freeguild fusiliers as a starting point
could you put a little bit of music in
it.?
I miss Bretonnia tbh, got done horribly dirty by End Times and last I checked none of then made it to AOS.
Laymen here. Is there a link between Sigma & 40K ? Did some writers try to connect these two universes , be it in a book or table top game ?
There’s no real link. But they do share many gods. Such as the chaos gods, the aeldari/elf gods and ork gods. As a result this impacts their culture.
just what i was looking for, thanks!
So does this take place after the end times? Or is this it’s own thing like 40k?
Takes place after the end times.
@@romanvexillum1991honestly I think it would be better off as it’s own thing or for GW to retcon things to where the end times caused two parallel worlds. One where chaos won that resulted in AoS and the otheb where chaos got it’s ass through kicked
So is this what happened after warhammer fantasy or it's a different story like 40k?
After Fantasy pretty much which lead to it's own thing
who is sigmar
Sounds like nagash is serving as the tyranids of aos
So are you doing aos now
Love the video, but uh, why is Slaneshh standing in a picture where there should be a horned rat?
Last he checked he yoinked her chair.
Not tried age of sigmar yet, I should re-use my ancient Tzeentch Daemon army as they exist in every game ☺️
@@TheGreatBookofGrudges exactly, the game was never perfect right out of the gate
It just feels, insincere. Purely functional.
Orks are just vibing. Therefore they are the only good faction
I quit when they blew up Warhammer Fantasy so I never learned about any of the lore of AoS...I have to say, I'm glad I didn't bother. What a ridiculous half baked mess that comes across like an indi dev tryhard video game arpg plot.
P.S. Nothing against you bud but the Old World was far superior as a fantasy setting to the crap messy lore of AoS.
what year is this set in
so its outside of the realm of time
this is really confusing to me but im also varry new to war hammer just bought my first book
It's definitely a either you love it or you hate it setting.
For me it's personally too much in every way
These just comes off as a spinoff cartoon.
Floating black pyramid? I call it a Blackstone
So this Sigmar is the same one from the fantasy battle world that was destroyed? I'm rather new to warhammer. Just trying to make sure I get it right.
im suprised that there was peace in the start
It’s so hard to visualize the AOS setting compared to Fantasy
What do you have a hard time visualizing?
The comments"waaaa waaaaa I never touched the tabletop of wf but it was still better waaa"
And I hear the tabletop is fun at least 🤙
Edit: Can Stormcast Eternals die? And if not, what are the stakes for the forces of order? Not trying to be shitty, genuine question. Is it just like, don't let x village burn, or is there some bigger threat that wasn't covered in this video?
Stormcast die and basically res pawn in Azyr, but each time they do so a little more of them dies. Also the rest of the order forces are still mortal.
Nagash reclaim part of a stormcast soul each time they die until they can no longer reforge.
Does Sigmar come after the shaven blow up the old world?
He just come back somehow....
"Chaotic Taint"
I'd like to hear more about the setting. I see potential in it but Warhammer Fantasy will always be superior. The biggest reason to why that is the case is because you habe have a sense of scale, threat and territory. It was a clear map that put things into context to where everyone was. The mortal realms of aos are a bit too abstract and I have no sense where everyone is or what they are fighting for. There are also not enough of leaders or figureheads for factions.
AOS now has a proper map we'll be discussing this soon enough :D
@@TheGreatBookofGrudges Sounds good! Was awhile since I checked the setting out.
@@micke1888 It has several maps now for vast regions through out the realms
@@TheGreatBookofGrudges AoS has dozens of maps which all feel irrelevant and not worth fighting for. There is completely no emotion connected with Aridian & Capilaria in the Great Parch. These territories could switch places and nothing would change for the overall setting of Aqshy
. In WH Fantasy the places meant something with all the neigborhood rivalries and interactions.
Bring back the Old World!!
The old world is dead and gone. It was called the END TIMES for a reason. Move on
@@Alleskeins Move on...to this shit? No thanks.
Well 40k 8s a fantasy in a space setting.
Ah yes...the Sigmarines..
watching this to get a basis for realms of ruin!
