    "Why would I watch a Coredumped video when I could just be casting fireball?"
    a fireball is only cast once, a Coredumped video is a permanent passive int buff :^)

    This is the thorough guide we need! It’s worth watching in full. You won’t save time by watching shorter videos because you won’t understand how to play on higher difficulty. Coredumped understands this game better than anyone.

    I finished PoE twice, once on story mode and once on easy difficulty. I love everything about this game, the atmosphere, lore, characters, the world and gameplay mechanics. However I kind of sucked at combat (hence the reason of playing on two easiest difficulties) but thanks to your guide I think I'm ready to try playing it again on Hard, and maybe even PotD after that. Looking forward to it, thank you for this guide!

    I’m glad you pointed out the difficulty in learning the nuanced differences between this and BG, IWD, Torment etc. I felt the same way when I first started, but this game is fun as hell once you get the hang of it

    • @CoredumpedGaming
      @CoredumpedGaming  6 місяців тому

      Yup, exactly what I always say when people ask about it. Most cRPGs are a bit like this in a way. It does have a complex system that falls out of what people might be used to in other popular cRPGs, which can definitely cause some confusion at first, but once you get the hang of it, this game provides very very good combat mechanics and fights! Not the mention the awesome world and story of course

      Welcome to the world of classic RPGs :D if you're looking for D&D style games, the baldur's gate series, icewind dale, pathfinder and more recently, solasta are more closely related (as they use D&D rulesets or very similiar in pathfinder's case, while pillars doesn't) but yes, pillars is an excelent choice without question. It may not use a D&D setting but it sure does a hell of a job creating its own and is one of thr greatest games ever made in this genre. I also used choke points a lot in pillars 1. I used a fighter, paladin, barbarian frontline with a priest and wizard backline. I wasnt so sure about my last choice and flexed it. The point when you have the enemys engaged in a choke all clumping together and you cast fire wall + fire ball with aloth while debuffing with durance is so statisfying. Wish I would’ve had this great guide bc it’ll help new players enjoy PoE1 more. Usually I play cRPGs on hard, but this 1 I played first on normal because I liked its story better than combat. At the start I played priest & didn’t understand I should get full party ASAP, so combat seemed impossible in first few areas. Also generally I enjoy less “real-time with pause” & prefer to select each move in tactical turn-based or action game.
    Finally I looked on Reddit & folks said “either play melee or go make full party at hound Inn.” Then I realized oh ok, combat is tuned for party 😂

      I would say that combat is tuned for a party yes, but you don't need to recruit mercenaries for that. The start you can handle just with the people you find initially. If you're interested, I have my full playthrough in the channel on the highest difficulty and don't use any mercenaries. However, if you are struggling at those initial places they can help

    A further note on buffing and debuffing, if you are stacking every category of buffs or have all the most powerful debuffs (blind, charm, petrify) the game is absolutely trivialized. The stat difference will be nearly insurmountable (given the enemy has basically 0 to all defenses or even accuracy, even on potd). Enemies basically just die and they can never hit your guys.

They all pull out a full meal, including alcohol (except the one person is drinking cooking oil for some reason) that has been in their packs for weeks. Advice for starting attributes for damage dealer wizard?

    • @CoredumpedGaming
      @CoredumpedGaming  5 місяців тому +1

      This is kind of a complicated question because there's a LOT you can do with wizards and deal damage in many different ways, even by being a melee wizard.
      For simplicity and since you did not specify I will assume the classic stand in the backline and blast enemies with spells build.
      Your most important stats will be:
      Might - makes you hit harder
      Dex - makes you cast and attack faster
      Per - makes you hit more accurately and crit more frequently
      Int - increases the area and duration of your spells
      All of the above are excellent for a wizard.
      If you wanted a super min maxed build you could dump Con and Res to the minimum, but this will make you a glass cannon that dies very easily if you aren't careful, and I don't normally recommend it.
      As a general approach that will serve you well I would suggest the following:
      Might - 15
      Constitution - 7
      Dexterity - 14
      Perception - 16
      Intellect - 16
      Resolve - 7
      You can then use race and culture to add some more points wherever you prefer. Overall in terms of personal preference in priority I would say INT > PER > MIG > DEX for this type of character.
      Please keep in mind that in PoE stats are more nuanced than in other games. You don't need to go to the extremes in order to have a good build unlike other games that favour that approach more.
      Hope that answers your question, if anything else you want to know feel free to ask!

      They are both very good games. I consider Pillars of Eternity to be the better game in terms of story, WotR feels more epic however. If you want the more classic experience in a game with an excellent setting, amazing story and very good combat, I would suggest Pillars first. If you're looking for a more gameplay-centric experience, love to slay demons and like to build characters up to epic levels where you basically become a god, Wrath of the Righteous might be more up your alley.
      To note that you also have Pathfinder Kingmaker (predecessor to Wrath of the Righteous) which is also an excellent game.

      For auto-attack I have it on defensive.
      Generally speaking though, if I find myself having issues with characters doing things I don't want them to do, or interrupting my commands to auto attack an enemy, I will just turn off AI. If you don't have those issues, keeping it on defensive auto-attack should be fine

      Regarding the break formation, that's a very good example of what I mentioned above. If AI starts breaking your patterns of preferred play, then just turn it off. You'll have to micro a bit more, but at least the characters don't make silly decisions that can be very costly.

Just build the character how you want and see how things play out.
