This girl's home is the best because the entire ocean/world is hers. The viewpoint from her boat, seeing the blue sky and ocean and dolphins, and no buildings, smogs, people, it's amazing.
I don't know why anyone gives such videos a 'thumbs down'. I guess some just enjoy negativity. This is a sincere share of her personal time and space; that is truly a gift she is sharing here. Thank you for sharing this. I agree with pretty much every word you spoke here and it all made perfect sense, to me. This was an excellent 10 minute clip, and I sincerely hope all who sail can be so happily contented. Good on ya' lady! Cheers!!
I really envy the Liveaboards. Hearing the excitement in her voice when she said the dolphins were playing with Daphne made me want for that life even more! @@davecopp9356 Never did! But as I've gotten older, I've realized that's okay. I'm still living the small home life in the same 34 foot class A RV I had in my original post 9 years ago. I absolutely don't miss or want a normal home sized sticks and bricks anymore. RV life for me!
@@ScottyHunter Cool. All the best and thanks for taking the time. I am looking into homesteading or living on a sailboat. Thats why I was asking. Take care.
I have been a live aboard for 18 years. Wish I had a sweet fun spirited woman like her to share mine with. Takes a special woman that enjoys adventure and a simple life. Hope you two are still having fun.
Love, love, LOVE this! This video was posted 12 years ago, it's the first time I've seen it. Teresa, wherever you may be, I hope you are doing AWESOME!
Great video Teresa. Can not believe so many doubters. I lived on a sailboat for 8 years when I was in my 20's. Working 6 months would finance more than a year of sailing. These will probably be the happiest days of your life. They were mine. I wish all your dreams come true.
I can tell from a lot of the comments on here many of you have never been around the water or boats in general. Maintaining a living while on a boat is not that difficult. Think of it in terms of going on the road and working. In other words, some work the internet, some work 6 mos from their boat on land while docked and then 6 mos at sea. some simply scrape by on what they have saved over the years. Some work in the ports of call they land in. so you see, it's not all that difficult. You have to want it...it's like most things in life. You want it badly enough, you will find a way.
Boats and ships and the sea have been a way of life for me for 55 years. I'm thrilled to find your channel. In 2009 I sailed from Two Harbors on Lake Superior to Happy Valley-Goose Bay Labrador. I get it! All the best to you.

I looked into the liveaboard lifestyle for when I retire. I read everything I could find about it, read all the forums, subscribed to all the sailing magazines, etc. What finally changed my mind was the growing number of reports of marinas no longer allowing liveaboards. You could buy a slip for your boat but could not live on it. I also read that marinas were becoming more and more expensive while traveling. It still is doable but you better at least have a good condition boat already paid for.
What a sweet girl. I am happy she is living her dream life. I know for me personally being out in the big blue ocean with no land in sight from any direction would make me panic and when the waves are really high I would be puking all the time.

Thank you so much Teresa for sharing this video with us. My 7 years old dougther has enjoyed it pretty much. This year she start the sailing school and your videos have been very inspirational for her. Greetings from the mediterranean shore off Spain.
I agree with what she said in the end " People who have more, they need more & people who have less, they need less. They are satisfied & live happy life". Lot to learn from these words.
Just watched again... beautiful girl, beautiful smile, and such a beautiful attitude to life. Really inspirational to anyone that aspires to living a more simple life in tune with the changing rhythms of the ocean. And that to achieve your dreams doesn't need more, but that you can achieve more with less. Has been quite an eye opener for me, a whole new mind set encouraging me to build on and develop my own experiences and dreams. Thank you for sharing!
,, When you reduced you want less and you happy for what you have '' beautifull sentence. I will be living on boat next year. Nice video. Good luck and happy life
Love this Im selling my house right now and been taking so much stuff to the thrift store hope I'm done and boat shopping soon cheers to you girl⛵⛵⛵🐬🐬🐬🐋🐋🐙🐙
Awesome young lady......!!! Wish more people lived with less and enjoyed life more....!!I've always lived in small spaces..... You learn to use what you have and give away what you don't need... Exactly what you stated.... ( I was robbed twice that changed my whole perspective....)
you have made it to "hero" status, some simple words, simple lifestyle and just wonderfull. thanks for being so candid and open, that's real refreshing.
I need to say, you speak ur life with so much grace and happiness and its clearly visible from ur face, I appreciate the life everyone living and yes humans are capable of living with less and could gain more happiness than amassing stuff they think they need for future, there is only present and only now, well this is what I believe.
Wonderful video. It reminds me of my own values, and of the habits of compromise that have crept into my life over the years, the luxuries that I have come to think of as necessities. Thanks for the gently offered challenge.
Good for you!! Back in the day I lived with nothing but what I could carry on my back. It was two of the best years of my life. When it got cold, you hitch south, when it gets too hot, back up north. North America was my playground. More people need to experience these types of adventures. If for no other reason, just to realize what sort of adversities they can overcome.
i saw this video along time ago,t. i used to want to get married, get rich, have a house, but all that was riped from me. and now i live for me, nobody can stop me.
Many sailors get caught up in the consumerist lifestyle, and end up missing the opportunity to enjoy the sea. Thanks for sharing, and living beautifully.
It's a great way to live your life. Living outside "the box" she has a lot of courage doing it. Not many would have the balls to do this and change the way we are programmed to live.
Holy crap. "The more you have the more you want". She's talking years past her youth. Good job girl! I've been saving to buy a live aboard cruiser. See you soon.
Totally funny assumption! I get it. But the Norseman is for our business. We couldn't provide sail-training expeditions on a 27ft boat. There was no room for passengers. We wanted a boat big enough where we could share sailing with others.
***** I don't really see him as a "begrudger" - just someone who made an assumption with limited information. I'm not worried at all. Nor am I offended. I think people really want to find things to "prove me wrong" and so they tend to assume a lot about me, even though they've only seen a short vid. I get it all the time, and I understand. But I do hope that by telling Chicken Soup the truth, then maybe we can learn together from a place of openness rather than just closing it all down. Conversation like this is enriching!....Then again, maybe I'm fooling myself and it is just "begrudgers."
I fell instantly in love with this girl. I have been a cruising sailor for over 20 years and never met a girl so beautiful and with such an amazing personality around a boat and around the water. My life would feel complete if I could find a girl like her :)
I sure agree. I honestly didn't think I would do as well as I am. I actually love it. Watching for a sailboat for this winter. As I think I saw mentioned on here, it sure helps to he handy. I can do almost all my own repairs and renovations. Some days it is just nice to know I am so free.
Don I was living in a crap little apartment in PA paying rent and electric. Even with heat included and no cable TV or internet it was costing me everything I was making and it truly sucked in every way. One day a friend asked me to save an old boat up for destruction, I said ok then found I had to pay slip fee to park it. It came down to one or the other in just 2 weeks. I made the right choice and have been living on the boat since 1 May. Small retirement pay my income. You only have to eat :)
A true inspiration. I thought I was living small on a 25' power boat but I am rather sure I couldn't live on what she is on. I have sun deck/dance floor over the inboard engine compartment, running water, toaster oven, microwave, coffee pot (electric) oh and a 2 door refrigerator. A man has to have his ice cream :) She's doing great
I can't believe people are giving you a hard time. You're living the life. I love your blog. One can buy a bluewater boat in their price range and be happy. Fair winds
a life worth living! We sailed a 27 foot boat from Canada and all around the Pacific landing in New Zealand 12 years ago. Lived on that boat for almost 9 years.... I miss that life and you have reminded me why. Thanks. I feel a Garage sale coming up... fair winds.
7 years ago this was the start of my dream. Some how all the parts of the puzzle came to gather and now I am living on the steel ketch in my thumbnail. Thanks for the inspiration Theresa!
Funny how you can get such a different message from the same video. I couldn't care less about the financial deals between Ben and Teresa. As far is I know the are still together.
@John Hooper Just found out what MGTOW stands for. I must have gotten the Red pill early in life, always steered clear of Hormonal orientated life changing decisions and intend to do so for life :-)
KUDOS to you, Teresa ! If others want to spend their lives "acquiring" only to die before ever having felt your freedom to live.....pity them. The "less is more ?" comment really made this old lady chuckle, he DEFINITELY doesn't get it. lol Good luck, Sweetie.......Bon Voyage !!!!
Kayzen, the only advice I can give is to keep a tight watch on your spending habits and to have a job. Despite the illusion of freedom, sailing isn't free. You have to have money in the bank for the occasional maintenance/safety issue, and, as you said...so you don't starve. I had many different jobs. The best way I saved money was by waitress. Now I sail professionally.
Couldn't agree more. I was also brought up in a beautiful old house set within the most stunning natural surroundings (north west England, 400 meters from Emperor Hadrian's magnificent wall). My parents lost all, in the Lloyds insurance debacle, in the late 80's early 90's. I also now live on a 28 foot boat and I love it. I work in a set job 5 days a week so I only have scenery changes during vacation.
People are almost always afraid of change , so make reticule and attack the ones that are willing to try change in their life ! I live aboard a 26ft it's a power boat but I only paid 1$ yeah a U.S. $ . The owner was tired of paying storage fees ! I live on $300.00 a mouth . Just letting you guys know where there's a will there is a way , if your not afraid of change ! I love life aboard wouldn't live any other way now even if I was a poor little rich kid XD ! 😎 🌈
What a lovely video. I have a beautiful Union Polaris 36, and this video makes me want to sail it far more often than I do at present. At 8.10, "there's Benjie back there", makes me smile and smile every time i see it.
Nice video. She's living life to the fullest which is what we should all do. I'm curious about her job and how she's able to travel all around. Does she have a work-at-home Internet job/something like that or is she one of those rich spoiled kids? Either way, I'm jealous and happy for her! I'm working on my own goal to build a tiny house as I think it's the future and like she said and I agree, life is less stressful when you have fewer materialistic things!
This totally works. The more I give away the more freedom I have. I love living on a boat, I know the possessions I keep are priorities (for now). My sailboat cost $40k, slip fees range from $1,000 to $2,500 per yr
Your comments needn't b so aggressive- only friendly inquiry. To answer your question, I have never been given a trust fund or a penny from anyone. I just have jobs. Usually more than one at a time. Congrats on loving your lifestyle, that is the best place to be. I wish for everyone that they could love their unique lifestyle, but unfortunately I don't think many are as fortunate. There is no gold at the bottom of my rainbow - I find joy to be much better. Sincerely, Miss Sunshine (Teresa)
while i love and aspire to your life style, at 4:23 you state that you cat is a vegitarian, this is deeply problematic as cats CANNOT be vegitarians and will eventualy die of malnutriton if they do not get the neccesary nutrients in meats.
+Toby Espenschied I know it's been 6 months but hey: I agree with your concern that cats are naturally carnivores, however she says, "..I don't carry any meat, Daphne's a vegetarian boat". Daphne is the boat's name (2:53), not the cats! Just to clear that up :)
This the present, and future of Western civilization. Indoctrinated youngsters like this girl here, indoctrinated by academia and media, the same ones who keep yapping the word SCIENCE! Quoting Darwin, Sagan and whatnot, whenever it is in their convenience while giving the middle finger to science, when it too is in their convenience to impose their deranged, cultists dogmata. They're totally ok with forcing carnivorous organisms, like felines and human babies, to become vegetarian or vegan. Pathologically insane people we're dealing with here, this girl actually seems like she could be a nice girl, a extreme rarity nowadays since we're dealing with indoctrinated brownshirt youths but indoctrinated nonetheles.
"Pathologically insane people we're dealing with here" - funny. Me, or you? But seriously, Dory eats cat food. Everyone else aboard eats veggies. I'm not perfect, sometimes I misspeak but that doesn't make me pathologically insane either. Good luck to you!
Wish I would have been in the right area at her age. Would have loved to live a life like this! Hats off to you young lady, may you always find fair seas and great adventures!
Yea, that is easy to say when you are young but there will come a time when you just get to old. Live it while you can Teresa, unfortunately nothing lasts forever...;)
My husband and I have a sailboat similar to hers...I could never live on it, I'd prefer a tiny house myself. However, she has a great spirit and sense of adventure..and she seems fearless :) Great combo...I hope she is eternally happy, I wish her well...
My girlfriend and I bicycled across Europe for six months and our greatest luxury was the freedom to go wherever we wished unencumbered by schedules, a-holes, and stuff. Our "stuff" was the experiences of an adventure surrounded literally -- not virtually -- by nature, ever-changing scenery, and history. As Thornton Wilder put it: "It is only in appearance that time is a river. -- It is rather a vast landscape and it is the eye of the beholder that moves." Hmmmm, don't know if that guy you travel with is your boyfriend but if he isn't then he's a fool. A woman with your fresh outlook is like a rare metal. It's out there, but you have to dig through rock and dirt and sometimes you're on the wrong mountain. If you ever sail past Marina Del Rey, rose petal, stop by and we'll discuss our many adventures over tea and a vegamite sandwich.
Each person has their own lifestyle. At the same time, it can be changed. What we can or cannot do without, until tried is not known. She found her change suited her. Happiness it's ones own making. She is happy this way and in the end that is all that really matters
So tell us, how do *you* pay for *your* lifestyle? Impertinent personal questions deserve no response. Very few liveaboard sailors are "trust fund babies." They do all sorts of things, from working part time to writing songs and stories and books to sewing sails and doing varnish work and repairing the engines on larger boats. Kirsten's finances are her own business.
Lovely video. I lived aboard a 21ft boat in the UK for 4 years (you couldn't stand in it, not even stoop). Loads of vids on my channel about it. Four years on a tiny boat was enough though, so I've bought a 32footer now. I still live aboard. I hope I always will. It's the perfect life. Fair winds to you.
Isnt it splendid, that she wants to live withouth all toys and gadgets. She must be a fun human beeing to be around with. It doesnt matter where she getts her money, what matters is, that she lives a simple life while she could do a lot easier with her days as you speak. And you talk rubish...u can get a decent blue water cruiser for less then 15k(catalina 30,C&C27 mk1,2,3,...etc..)
+Klemen Prezelj You can definitely get a blue water cruiser for around 15k, but I wouldn't consider a Catalina 30 a blue water boat. They are way too beamy.
Please don't be be negative about this girl or the way she keeps her cat its really none of your business anyway she is an inspirational woman and it brings tears to my eyes to see someone living their dream 😊
Dear Kirsten, I do understand you. When I was a student, I regularly lived 3 months a year on a boat. Since 20 years I was dreaming to do this again but I got entangled in job, family, social net. Last year hoever, I got an assignement somewhere else and after 3 months in a hotel I got deprressed. I bought a 12 foot Mini camper and spent the year more or less in the open. It was the summer of my life... Cling to your dream, never let go!
Yossi Allen It's the truth. Sure, it's a nice, refreshing way to live... but if she actually had to work for a living, what she is doing is impossible.
***** I couldn't care less what others have, even if they are showing what they have, off. I have no time for such individuals who constantly have the need to impress.
***** Now I totally agree with you there Circulo. Good comment! When you have the financial base, anything is possible. I speak of this myself from my world travels but never put those down who have not had the chance to do this like me, due to their financial circumstances an otherwise. I have the chances and love travelling. Many are forced to live where they are and like said, if you are born into a poor housing estate, 9 times of of 10, that is where your life shall end. I was born in a slum but had the good fortune to have dual nationality (Swiss and Israeli) and this opened opportunities for me.
hello, i dont understand some things.. how are you paying for things like food and fuel? if you are always on a boat sailing, i suppose you dont have a job? i saw a computer, are you a writer? or living off from interest?
over here in the real world, where we can all see what you wrote, as well as calling me a dumb ass for pointing out your stupidity just really serves to illustrate I was correct. If you actually saw her TED talk you'd see that she worked and took out a loan for the boat. You didnt point out an obvious fact, you just leapt in with your dickwad boots on. You sir (i'll give you the benefit of the doubt, but i'm guessing you're about 12), are i suspect a small minded fuckwit who can only feel good about yourself by deriding others. Now Kindly fuck off and take your childish attitude with you. Thanks !
gug1970 i dont think its even worth responding too . if you go to his discussion page , it seems like this person specializes in trolling people . seems like a case of bitterness thats all .
Living small is a mindset. I haven't read all the posts but a small boat can cost less than a used car. It would be great to have a trust fund but it's not necessary to live small. Food that is prepared at home could make eating as cheap as $1,000 per year. (or less) With no rent, no car payment, no utilities, no dining out you can work a few months a year or a few days a month an get by or, if you work online, you can work every day. With such low overhead you don't need a wildly successful business. Just $20-$100 per day.
You must feel so free. I never felt so free when I bought a truck and paid it off in one year. 4 years later still living free and debt free too. Saving to buy a house outright. I'll pay the bank in pennies too.
Hi Teresa, please don't feel like you've to answer every comment and especially any negative ones. Most are ignorant or can't imagine doing what you are capable of doing, so they try to make an issue. I live aboard, but in a marina and have easy access to everything. Obviously, I don't need to store as much as yourself who live off shore. As far as how you support yourself or your lifestyle, it's nobody's business. I do have a business and it makes money, so I can live however I want.
The big problem is Uncle Sam. He will not let you have a car, income, phone, credit card, bank account or boat license without a physical address. As a second home you shouldn't have a problem. Otherwise you'll have to do the PO Box dance every 6 months which still requires physical address but forward mail helps and some marinas permitting live aboard permit mailing addresses. They also have water, electric, wifi, shower, club house etc. I'm 5'10" on a 25' inboard and it is great.
Thanks so much for the support! People are always so critical of how I could afford to do this.

,, When you reduced you want less and you happy for what you have '' beautifull sentence. I will be living on boat next year. Nice video. Good luck and happy life
Love this Im selling my house right now and been taking so much stuff to the thrift store hope I'm done and boat shopping soon cheers to you girl⛵⛵⛵🐬🐬🐬🐋🐋🐙🐙
you are so young and aren't you scared to be alone in the sea...but its amazing seeing your adventure heart and courage..
Teresa, you are brave. Live your dream to the fullest. I love your smile.
I need to say, you speak ur life with so much grace and happiness and its clearly visible from ur face, I appreciate the life everyone living and yes humans are capable of living with less and could gain more happiness than amassing stuff they think they need for future, there is only present and only now, well this is what I believe.
What a smile!
Wonderful video. It reminds me of my own values, and of the habits of compromise that have crept into my life over the years, the luxuries that I have come to think of as necessities. Thanks for the gently offered challenge.
to paraphrase Gurdjieff: man is not satisfied by great quantity, but by the absence of greed.
I love her stance on life. And she's super pretty too!

Would you hit it?!
Yep

You don't stand a chance hence the rainbow sail .
It's a great way to live your life. Living outside "the box" she has a lot of courage doing it. Not many would have the balls to do this and change the way we are programmed to live.
Don't give the diesel chips to Dori. You can eat it, but don't give it Dori.
Holy crap. "The more you have the more you want". She's talking years past her youth. Good job girl! I've been saving to buy a live aboard cruiser. See you soon.
_"The more you have, the more you want"_ ~ Teresa Carey
former owner of a Nor'Sea 27 who wanted more and got a bigger boat (Norseman 447)
Conversation like this is enriching!....Then again, maybe I'm fooling myself and it is just "begrudgers."
don't worry too much about comments people make on youtube. You have a life that a lot of us want. Keep up good work. Hope all the best thing to you😁
I fell instantly in love with this girl. I have been a cruising sailor for over 20 years and never met a girl so beautiful and with such an amazing personality around a boat and around the water. My life would feel complete if I could find a girl like her :)
Beautifully stated. A near perfect lifestyle.
I sure agree. I honestly didn't think I would do as well as I am. I actually love it. Watching for a sailboat for this winter. As I think I saw mentioned on here, it sure helps to he handy. I can do almost all my own repairs and renovations. Some days it is just nice to know I am so free.
I loved her story..especially the end..very well said :)
Thank you!
What a wonderful lifestyle and wonderful video. Thank you!
Thanks. I feel a Garage sale coming up...
fair winds.
Too many Haters...get a life, all of you.
Your vid was sweet, TY for sharing
Thanks!
I must have gotten the Red pill early in life, always steered clear of Hormonal orientated life changing decisions and intend to do so for life :-)
3 years on, I am still living on my boat. Life is good, but it is just work for a living and do maintenance, no time for travel and adventure....
You have inspired me by your way of thinking its a beautiful mind
So what's new?
Thank you
Couldn't agree more.
***** Thanks for the update Linda! I'll be sure to check out her blog.
This totally works. The more I give away the more freedom I have. I love living on a boat, I know the possessions I keep are priorities (for now). My sailboat cost $40k, slip fees range from $1,000 to $2,500 per yr
I'd love to do this. I just need to know how to get started.
The boat is vegetarian not the cat ! Meaning she's a vegetarian not dory her cat ! Daphne is the boat dory is her cat
There are cat foods that are vegan that have synthetic nutrients found in meat.
Thank you! It is never too late!
Yea, that is easy to say when you are young but there will come a time when you just get to old. Live it while you can Teresa, unfortunately nothing lasts forever...;)
You’re welcome to borrow my motto.
“Don’t give me stuff! Give me space!”
By the way, you’re gorgeous!
Thanks so much! Yes, both our boats had solar panels. We plan to do that again. It was very helpful (when it was sunny!) ~Teresa
You can eat the diesel chips but don't give any to the cat. lol.
I was thinking the same thing, that's pathetic kill him but not the cat, what a dumb ass, and he had no response to that, his even dumber.
grktycoon She does not make his choices. If wants to eat chips and drink diesel as long as he pays her for the fuel there is no issue.
+John Turner + 50% fuel tax
Crazy cat lady syndrome is real, toxoplasmagondi look it up! A cat's life is valuable, and screw that man, or any man for that matter 👌🏻
The cat burys its shit and piss with it's paws and then drinks it's milk on the food preparation counter top I noticed. Pretty damn gross.
I moved on my boat 2 days ago here in WA. such a strange feeling. New sounds and smells. Great video.
"I live on a boat so I can own a boat."
Exactly!
it is hard to afford one if you don't live on it.. and in storms you will worry if you aren't on it.
Very few liveaboard sailors are "trust fund babies."
They do all sorts of things,
from working part time to writing songs and stories and books
to sewing sails and doing varnish work
and repairing the engines on larger boats.
People can adapt to anything if they tried.
Do you think she isn't happy? That she is 'missing out' on living in an apartment or house in land? You aren't a sailor or an adventurer, right?
I am so envious, yet I know how incredibly hard life is on that boat. I have tremendous envy and respect for you.
People have sailed her far, with no prib what so ever. Šterk sailed around the world in a 20ft sailboat.....
Please don't be be negative about this girl or the way she keeps her cat its really none of your business anyway she is an inspirational woman and it brings tears to my eyes to see someone living their dream 😊
You may think your cool....but you're not living on a sailboat with a yellow cat cool.
Hahaha!
What do you do for a living? Your way of life is very interesting indeed.
***** Less than the lifestyles most of us lead.
***** Are you jealous?
I love your story and i can't wait to get my own boat and go experience new and challenging things.
hello, i dont understand some things.. how are you paying for things like food and fuel? if you are always on a boat sailing, i suppose you dont have a job? i saw a computer, are you a writer? or living off from interest?
*****
or maybe even she took jobs and saved up ? (which is what she did - seek out her TED talk) - no need for nasty mindedness.
over here in the real world, where we can all see what you wrote, as well as calling me a dumb ass for pointing out your stupidity just really serves to illustrate I was correct.
Thanks !
***** yep... daddys money paid for that boat.
***** not really, i just dont like little bullies sitting behind keyboards.
gug1970 i dont think its even worth responding too . if you go to his discussion page , it seems like this person specializes in trolling people . seems like a case of bitterness thats all .
I like watching this a few times a year as inspiration. I have a bad habit of remaining dockside for months rather than getting out to the adventure.
You have the prettiest smile !
I absolutely envy you
She was very honest and good. I'm happy she is happy. Sounds like she lives a great life and won't regret living as she does. Kudos!
You must feel so free. I never felt so free when I bought a truck and paid it off in one year. 4 years later still living free and debt free too. Saving to buy a house outright. I'll pay the bank in pennies too.
Free yourself from material belongings, then you are free!!!!
So does the cat have a tiny little life jacket or what?
The big problem is Uncle Sam. He will not let you have a car, income, phone, credit card, bank account or boat license without a physical address. As a second home you shouldn't have a problem. Otherwise you'll have to do the PO Box dance every 6 months which still requires physical address but forward mail helps and some marinas permitting live aboard permit mailing addresses. They also have water, electric, wifi, shower, club house etc. I'm 5'10" on a 25' inboard and it is great.
