Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 чер 2024
- It's a flight for the ages full of questions that deserve answers. Of the Van Winkle collection, which one is the most worth it? Is it the Rip 10, Lot B, Pappy 15, Pappy 20 or Pappy 23 year? Let's find out and put this argument to rest once and for all (or at least until we feel like doing it again).

This actually made me happy considering I have a bottle of old rip van winkle.
I just had a chance to try Rip 10 at a bar... $25/pour. Best $50 I spent that night! What a treat! Love the show, yall!! 👌🤠🥃
“Is anyone surprised!?” Panned out exactly as expected. Always an entertaining watch though. Great job as always y’all!
So happy to see this episode. Still waiting on the battle of the 107's. :)
You must have missed it! ua-cam.com/video/-BcGGU_b2tk/v-deo.html
@@ItsBourbonNight oh crap. I must have. Not sure how I missed it.
* cheers * Clearly Pap-15 would win in a revised battle. 😀
I’m glad you picked the 15 as 1st place. It’s the only bottle of pappy that I’ve had the chance to get. I agree that it’s such a great bourbon with a good oak balance.
The 15,20and 23 are worth the money and the hunt. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Subscribed for Flight of the Concords reference
😎
I have the 20 year and I absolutely love it. Not like any other bourbons I’ve ever had. I love how you can appreciate the age and the oak.
I've had both the 12 and 15. Loved them both but I think the 15 was definitely the better . Don't think I would spend that type of money on any of the others. The 15 is their sweet spot.
"Hey kids!!" -how about a blind with some of these (maybe not the 20 or 23) vs. that nice bottle of standard Buffalo Trace on the shelf behind you?
wierd thing. I was dreaming about this kind of review for pappy just last night and then your review popped on my screen. So cool you were able to do it. I have only had 10 and 12. Bourbon gods have not blessed me with rest, but would love to get that 15 year to compare. thanks and cheers.
I’m so pleased that the two you liked best are the two I have! Haven’t tried them yet but the proof and ages do seem to suggest they’d be the ones I’d like best, too.
Love Flight of the Conchords! Great shout out!
Sara "We had to go back and forth between these several times"....lol, it shows. There's a tick of slur in the speech. But...I'm just jelly. Getting buzzed on Pappy is a hell of a flex.
Chad and Sara thanks for all you do for the whiskey community. Not actually not knowing you two its always a very informative and helpful to me in picking out my next kung fu. Really like the crystal glasses btw. keep up the good work
Once upon a time in the late '90s I lived in Cincinnati and could drive over to Covington or Newport where liquor store shelves were fully stocked with every variety of Van Winkle product, starting at about 30 bucks a bottle. And Van Winkle was my go-to brand. I usually opted for the 10-year old bourbon or the rye, but when I felt like something special, I would kick it up a notch.
Little did I know then...
Oh, and the rye was indeed special, too. The finish lasts forever.
Love the Pappy 20 rundown.. The blind tasting reveals all.
I was lucky enough to get a bottle of Old Rip 10 last year at MSRP. I actually had the choice between it and Lot B but wanted the higher proof option of OR10.
I really didn't think I'd like it, but when I tried the 20 year, it was the most complex and intriguing American whiskey I ever had, with All Young being second. As you said, I had a great year and I agree that it makes a difference.
Great review!
Great review !!
Thanks for suffering through this blind...lol. I knew 15 would be your favorite but I've never had any of them and probably never will.
Great job as usual guys...👍🇨🇦
As someone who was fortunate enough to score a bottle of ORVW10 recently, glad to hear it’s probably unnecessary for me to go to great lengths or expense to acquire an older Pappy bottle.
Great video you two. Cheers!!!
It’s funny because that is where I feel like I would land. Great content as always guys! Hope this drives your views and subscriber rate. After all you have the best whiskey content on the internet. Full stop.
I have the top 3, all unopened. Total cost $400.
I can't find it or afford it so I might as well watch you two enjoy it!!! =P All I can say is thank God for Wild Turkey 101.
Fantastic video! Something us ordinary folks can only dream about. But, having seen your individual reviews of the older Pappy's, I'm not surprised. Basically, 20+ years is just too long for bourbon to be in barrels. This isn't scotch in used barrels up in cold arse Scotland. One minor critique, although I love that you go through the lineup twice, I think the fairest way would be in reverse order the second time (because of how first drams influence your palate for the next, etc.). Keep up the good work!
I got a pick in a lottery and the best choices I had in the lineup were in no particular order 2020 George T Stagg, Thomas Handy, Van winkle 10, lot b, and Van Winkle Rye and I picked the Stagg. I guess I'll always wonder what the VW rye experience is like, but I'm happy with my pick. Now the question is when to crack the Staggasaurus.
Thanks for adding the MSRP, sometimes that is a little tricky to find. I’ve found a good source for those looking is Michigan’s Lara price book.
I'll probably never try any of these but great to see the flight
Happily enough, the 15yo is the only one I've ever tried and will likely ever try. I rather have the WLW or GTS. Cheers y'all 🥃🇨🇦🇺🇲
Love love you guys. So jealous of your “selections”. Felt like could almost.....taste em 😮🥃😱😱 not
Just a few days ago got to taste the 15 year old PVW and was thrilled !.
Compared it to Blantons and I was sorry I even bothered with the Blantons.
Than you and I will be joining your clan.
Chad, what are the year releases on each bottle?
20 years in kentucky is pretty nuts, no shock the 10-15 are the best, even thats damn old for that climate
Having tried pappy 20 from different Production years, I can safely say it’s absolutely undrinkable
I love it personally. It’s all subjective
The Flight Fight to end all Flight Fights!🙌
I've killed an Old Rip and a Lot B in the past, have a Old Rip 10 I've been saving for about 5 years. Never had any of the Pappy's but a friend of mine bought the 15 for an absurd amount of money. With luck I'll get a sip.
Just get a bottle of wild Turkey 101 or a bottle of buffalo trace and call it a day 👍 or get some Weller antique any questions 😂🤣
I'll stick to my favorite stag jr. But you do you. Have a great holiday weekend everyone.
Great Channel! What year is the PVW 20 you are tasting from?
I'm sad about your bottle of Pappy 20. When I had them all, that was my favorite. Must have been an off-year. Pappy 15 is my second favorite, and certainly the one I expected to top your lists, lol. Nice video!
My all time favourite bourbon is a 2009 Pappy 20 year. It’s definitely not a Buffalo Trace bourbon back then. Still have an unopened bottle of 2009. So good.
I was able to try the 10 and 12 last night !
What an amazing experience
16 and 18 per serving
Nice! Not bad!
I'm not surprised at all that the 10 did so well. tried it twice now (likely different releases) and it is definitely in my top 3-4 i've ever tried just based on memory. i think it gets underrated compared to its siblings, though obviously still hyped out of existence. I've heard anecdotally that the 20 and 23's reputation is still carrying over too much from the stitzel-weller days, and the BT create ones aren't really all that special. still great, but not at all worth the hype they still get
This reminds me that I need to see if my local whiskey bar still has the Old Rip Van Winkle Bay Colony Bicentennial Decanter up on their top shelf. They sell it by the 1oz pour.
I subscribed partially because of the review, but mostly because of the Flight of the Conchords reference
We’ll take it!
I must have a really good 20 year because all I get is a liquid bananas foster with a nice light ashy note at the very end before going sweet
Funny thing, don't think I've even seen a pappy. Do have good access to the Wellers, though.😉
Yes
"Am I freaking you out, Bret? Is this a freaky dream?" #Conchords
Did you wear the eye patch?
@@BourbonandaBaby wore my business socks cuz its Wednesday and you know what that means....
You can get those at MSRP in my state. My state controls all Sales of sprits. To get Pappy, We have a state lottery.
Imagine 10,000 people going for 120 bottles. The chance of getting these are very low.
Recent lottery had just one bottle of the 23 year old.
I saw Pappy 23 going for $8k lol pleeeeeeez that is ridiculous
Woohoo! Appreciate your feedback.
Yep so the 12 batch b is the best 👌
Would’ve loved to see where poor mans pappy ranked here
More flight fights!!!
exhausting
Hardest flex in the bourbon community
you forgot the Old Rip Van Winkle 90 proof
Next “obnoxious” blind tasting Should be WLW, GTS, RVW 10 yr, and Pappy 15yr for the Ultimate Bourbon Belt!!!
I love that flight but I feel like the WLW and GTS proof points would blow out the 107s
@@nickentros Great point!!! That would certainly be a “tell”. Still haven’t had anything better than WLW. Maybe something as good, but nothing better.
I’ve only had rip and lot b and I can say lot b beat it by a country mile. For me the rip had that very thin, wet wooden shed taste. Lot b was like a sweet velvet flavor bomb in comparison.
I realized i didnt like buffalo traces oakier stuff after trying weller 12 yr. So im definitely not even going to risk forking over the money for pappy 15,20, or 23. Id like to try rip 10 and 12 though
I did this same blind flight a couple months ago with the rye... it doesn't stick out at all lol
Where did you place the rye in your rankings?
What years release is your pvw 20 yr ?
Why the jump cuts when sipping?
funny it's like 2 buck chuck said "no wine costs more than 2 bucks to make"...at least it's not hoodies today
Varsity Blues reference
So now, a blind tasting of your pappy alternatives.
The 10 you share with friends.
The 12 you share with family.
The 15 you keep to yourself.
The 20+23 you keep on the shelf because $.
Also the 15 is my personal favorite. Just the right amount of balance and deliciousness.
“Tuesday is the night that we visit your mother, but Wednesday…”
Congratulations on getting a flight of bourbon most of us ordinary folk have no shot in h*ll of ever tasting.
Tasting is one thing, owning a bottle is quite another
This is some King Kong vs Godzilla ish.
In my humble opinion, the 12yr old is the best. 15yr is the runner up. Worth it at msrp. Bourbon over 15yrs is too long in the wood. It's not Scotch. It doesn't work. I used to be a top customer so I was able to get one of each. Played this game a few years and quickly realized it wasn't worth the effort or money, even at msrp. NONE of these whiskey's are worth what the secondary market is asking. NONE! If you must, go to a whiskey bar, and pay the ridiculous price for a dram and you will be completely reassured that you are not missing a whole lot. Other BT products like BTAC are much more desirable from a flavor, proof, availability and price standpoint.
Enjoyed the show guys!
Woooo
PAPPY WHISKEY CHEERS
this guy found a keeper of a women, loves bourbon, psychically attractive, and seems more than intelligent. My guy, you have won the award of most underrated man of 2023!
My dad bought 2 bottles for 2500 bucks lol
How did you get all those?
Years and years of hunting and lots of luck!
Yall are too lucky to have all of these to try. 99% of the population will never taste one of these in their lifetime. Cheers
Have you had the rye?
Yes. It’s good but not our favorite.
4:19 Sara is mid stroke. Pray for her 😉
Hi 🥃
Trick questions. It's none of them.
Hi
Now add if your Poor Man's Pappy to the blind of Lot B, 15, 20 and 23 and let us know how it stands up!
Hmmm…this is a good idea 🤔
Easy money the 107 proofs would win
I almost always find similar issues once the bourbon starts approaching 20 years... too much oak!
The sheer lack of views on this video is astonishing
Netflix brought me here
Need more videos like this to squash the hype on these bottles a little bit. No offense to the Van Winkles but it’s the single more overrated whiskey line in existence. Is what it is.
Very informative for the consumer. That would be a difficult taste test given the proof. Sara seems a tad juiced up and sloppy.
Coconut, tropical fruity, vanilla, chocolate, buttery, candy, caramel, spicy, sugary, black pepper, .... I don't taste any of that shit.
ALL the Pappys are OVERRATED!!! They are $30 to maybe $75 range for what the true value is!!
these whiskeys are all expensive if you can find them.. so.. finding which of these Unicorns taste best.. its a UNICORN! pretentious? maybe.. even by your own admission that these would cost an astronomical amount.. so,, maybe this is a fantasy tasting.. interesting.. but not practical.
The woman talks too much.
"The woman" is my wife and I would hope you wouldn't say that to her face if you met her. No, you wouldn't? Then why comment about it on the internet where she and anyone else can see it?
Because anyone will ever be able to find these. #PappyForEveryone
What years release is your pvw 20 yr ?
