I left professional fishing after an accident landed me in a coma and months of rehab. I know the grind Randy… but pro fishing is a blessing Randy. Sorry to burst your bubble.

The " job" as a professional bass angler is a choice. You chose to be hot, cold, tired and away from your family. But, don't tell all the rest of us our jobs are " cushy"!
I fish for fun and relaxation. Your "fun" became a job.

This is super ignorant. Is professional bass fishing hard? Sure is. But to say that it’s the hardest job is insane. Literally no one has died because Randy “didn’t catch em today”…..but they sure do when the pilot or doctor has a bad day.
You even tried to say being a lineman working on high tension lines in the winter is easier than being a bass angler.
I put in 60+ hours a week maintaining airplanes. I travel the world, sometimes putting in 24+ hour shifts. And you want to tell me fishing is harder? I don’t get to make mistakes. Consequences for poor performance in the real world may cost you your life.
Nobody is saying fishing isn’t difficult to make a living in. But at the end of the day you’re a salesman to people who work for a living. Bass fisherman make their living off sponsorships. And without real people to buy that product, you don’t have an industry. Maybe don’t insult your customers and tell them how easy that have it.

This is big boy facts. I don't think anyone said pro fishing is easy per se, but to say it's one of the harder jobs that exist is fuvkin insane. You're up there with linemen and roughnecks, yall literally make the world run. A billion times harder than anything I could ever imagine when all you're really doing at the end of the day is fishing and traveling (either flying or in brand new trucks and boats mind you) and boating and then talking a bunch all year. To any of the careers listed and more, that's called better than vacation !!!

Wow, Randy! The way you described the trials and tribulations of bass tournaments and the “weight of the world” on your shoulders, it’s no wonder why more tournament fishermen are looking for the “easy” way out to catch bass using FFS. 😆🤣

Pro fishing is no more a ‘real job’ than pro golf or pro tennis or pro bowling or pro football. You’re getting paid to play a sport and have no concept of of what a real 9-5, M -F job and life is like. Just because you picked a sport where it’s hard to make money doesn’t mean it’s a real job, it just means you choose poorly. As anyone who reads my comments knows, I’ve always been fascinated with human behavior. However , I realized early on that there was no money in it and choose a different career path that was interesting and financially lucrative so now I don’t have to worry about money … own your life choices and stop looking for sympathy for them

Randy, your logic is that because fishing for a living is difficult and filled with problems it constitutes being a real job. Nothing is produced, there’s no benefit to society, no one is helped by anything a “pro” fisherman does. Fishing should be a hobby, not how a man earns a living. Learn to build houses or fix plumbing and people will respect you.

I fished the BASS Invitationals 1991-95. I held down a regular full time job the whole time. When I won the Federation National Championship in 2005 I qualified for the Elite’s and a pretty decent sponsorship deal along with it. I turned it down because I learned 10 years earlier that being a bass pro was to much work for to little money. When you have a real job you work 40 hours and can fish on vacation and weekends. When you win it’s all gravy and when you don’t you go to work Monday.

As someone who has tried to make a living at something that started as a hobby, I'd much rather have a regular job. Constantly pursuing the activity, as well as the stress of having to make money at it can quickly kill your passion and drive for the activity...no matter what it is. I admire anyone who still has a love for fishing after such a long pro career.

I don't think you're wrong about what how tough it is for the job as a professional angler but I think why it rubs everyone wrong because it is a highly privilege job. Think about how small the population is for pro anglers. You either get lucky in life and draw the right cards or know the right people to even start it. There are plenty of bass fishers out there that would love to go pro but cannot because of financial issues. Honestly to me it almost seem like its an elite gated club. People will always say they wanna go pro as a dream job. NOBODY will ever say they wanna go work at a factory as their dream job. Times has changed old man. Majority of new pro anglers come from money which is why they can take out loans to go fish in college, if they even got loans... You can choose to not fish a tournament and be somewhat okay. No normal person can choose not to go to work without consequences. Now it almost seems like you gotta come from money to have this job. Sure there might be a couple of outliers but they are the minority and the minority is not the norm.

The only place for a leader is with a spinning rod, braid to floro. Randy likes to spool the whole rig with floro, but I disagree with this. Braid works so much better on a spinning reel. On baitcasters, a leader is entirely unnecessary.

It takes hard work to follow your dream.
I'm still wondering who all these guys are that you are having disagreements with. Who doubts the rigors of pro bass fishing, or pro anything else? Touring pros in any sport work super hard. Problem with bass fishing is it's on the lowest rung of the sports ladder. Sure, we love it, but it doesn't compare in popularity with other sports. So, not much sponsorship, except for the superstars, who still aren't known by the general public.

Lets be honest, comparing your low skilled jobs prior to fishing don't really compare to guys working in their careers.
If professional bass fishing ended as we know it tomorrow, it would have very little effect on society as a whole. Most other careers have a huge impact on everyday peoples normal lives. It's not a good comparison.
I understand its tough to make a living fishing. But at the end of the day you are relying on either sales skills, fishing skills, family money / self made money, or outright sponsor generosity to make a living. It's a niche sport with a tiny audience and nobody is entitled to make a living in a niche sport.
And being honest, a decent amount of "pros" don't help themselves when they complain about how rigging a boat and organizing tackle is a full offseasons worth of work. Or how they desperately need a break to hunt during the fall. Meanwhile the club angler in the sport working 60 hours a week can knock it out in a day or two 😂
