One of his closest associates, long-time friend, and sound engineer H. Sridhar reveals some little-known facts about Rahman, "I had known Rahman many years before I started working with him on Roja. While he was doing jingles, we would often meet and compare notes on music trends and synthesizers. Rahman's biggest asset is that he treats each song as his first song. He prays before each session. I believe there is some power in his God, faith, and religion.
I can give you countless examples of when he became so inspired after his prayers. He is very open-minded about what a song needs and gives each song a completely individual taste. It is the way he soothes you into a song that I call his signature. There is a visual texture in his mind when he composes music. When you see the song picturized you can immediately connect. Rahman allows musicians to be themselves. He understands their soul. He also has a fabulous way of getting notes out of a musician without telling them in so many words.

The one thing you can notice here is that ARR is as much a sound engineer as he is a composer and honed his skills working with the legendary Sridhar Hariharan, who was the sound engineer for Rahman in the 90s and early 2000. This truly sets him apart from other composers as he really understands the mechanics of recording and reproducing sound so the listener gets to hear the output as close as possible to how it was intended to be.
Right even before working with h sridhar he used to rent his studio out for other composers and worked with them as a keyboardist and an engineer

This was also Thiruda Thiruda composition and a Sun tv theme music and not Roja as claimed ! Nevertheless he had great jingles even at the time of Roja

At that age..he told, success doesnt effect him much! Just he loves people enjoys his music! its by gods grace only people born in such wombs.
Though this was just 30 years ago, it is amazing to see the top end systems of that time in AR's studio, and they look so primitive!

I am started listening to ARR music since 90 era , i moved slowly enjoying Enigma, Pop and other international Raps , then i felt bored to listen those songs and again back on track to ARR music, ARR has the best creativity compared to all other international composers, if he were born in US , he would considered as God of world music .

The opening pan flute bit is actually in the charanam of a song called “Thee Thee” from Thiruda Thiruda. Which released later in ‘93. Which makes me wonder if this was pre-Roja, in this case 91’. Anyways, this is Gold ❤️

This was not a composing session for Roja, which was released a year ago before this Interview. He had already received the National Award by this time. This interview was done in 1993 while he was recording for the movie 'Puthiya Mugham'.

We were the fan of manirathnam in 90s.i bought a cassete of the new movie. I shocked after purchasing it. Bcos the combo of meastrro and mani expected and found a new name in music. Then listioning it's composition it was amazing.especially the song thamizha thamizha nalai nam naale.
Very true ...I was also very agitated when I saw new name of music director...why did Mani sir change what happened..but listening to songs it was different feel new fresh ...

For past 8 years Rahman has changed a lot by just giving random Notes to London Orchestra and just sit back and they finish recording without any stress ..(Note - Rahman himself said this in an interview and he even said 'It is more easy and he doesn't need to do much job nowadays' )
That's why All his music changed to London / UK English Style of approach ..Still we all hear Rahman songs means it starts from 90's until maybe endhiran or 2012.. tats it.. but he has done a fantastic job in Hindi instead with original Indian score rather than UK style
Please refrain from posting such irresponsible and inaccurate information. The process of composing has not become easier for ARR or any other composer for that matter. If anything, it has become more difficult in the last couple of decades due to technology and rapidly evolving audience taste and decreasing attention spans. Composers don’t give “random notes” to orchestras, all of it has to be carefully and laboriously composed and produced.
