@@jessicagalyon5840 there's absolutely no reason to avoid silicones unless you're allergic or they give you unfavorable results. They are wonderful for the hair. They protect the cuticle from heat and mechanical damage, they reduce combing friction, and they prevent tangles. People say they're bad because they block water from getting into the hair but that's a good thing. Our hair when it is healthy is naturally hydrophobic (water repelling) and lipophylic (oil loving). Water causes the hair shaft to swell and lifts the cuticles, which then snag on eachother and cause more tangles and damage. Hair doesnt need water to feel "moisturized". The "moisturized" feeling comes from being coated and protected by cationic conditioning ingredients, fatty alcohols, oils, quaternium compounds, silicones. If you're worried about "build up" because it might weigh your hair down or make it sticky, then amodimethicone is what you want to look for. Its chemical structure makes it so it can only stick to the damaged parts of the hair cuticle, making it impossible for it to build up on itself. So ya, long story short, go get yourself some silicones! Your hair will be healthier for it
I was so sad when I started researching hair health because my favorite hair care brand that works and is cheap used sulfates and silicones until I started doing more research and realized that because I dye my hair they might actually benefit my hair more than hurt it so I tried them again and fell in love with them again.
I've just started curly girl method to try and enhance my curls and already I'm having doubts about how fervently strict and "anti" the CGM community can be. I have super fine, but fairly dense hair and I'm beginning to think a lot of "CGM approved" products, leave-ins in particular, are just too heavy for my fine hair and are weighing it down. I'm going to keep going with CGM until all my product runs out, but then I'm going to try and find some awesome curl-enhancing, moisturising, but light products and I'm not going to stress too much about whether or not there are silicones in it. Thank you for the video!
Everyone tells me I’m in transition. I have had one good hair day in 9 wks tho. One. My hair is getting worse & worse. I show pics & ppl keep saying it will get better when my hair heals from the bleach. I’ve never bleached my hair in my life!!! So. My hair looks damaged now. Dry. I deep condition every wash. I think silicones are just for me...
@@jessicagalyon5840 Yeah I haven't dyed my hair with anything but Henna in 15+ years and I maybe heat-styled it twice a year for almost as many years, so you can hardly call it "damaged". We just need to do what's right for our hair I think.
I have found the silicones can weight my hair down but only in cold weather. In this heat my hair needs silicone but even so I will still use both silicone and silicone-free products all year round I am just more mindful in the cold months.
I was wondering if you've tried Cake The Soft Touch Reset Restore Hair Oil yet? It is a dry oil serum that I am really liking this summer, it is the lightest I've found and doesn't feel or look oily on my hair to SOTC and tame frizz😁
My hesitation with silicones is that my hair gets build up so easily and it's very hard for me to get the slimy feel out of my hair even with clarifying shampoos. Some polyquats are impossible for me to remove from my hair, even after 3 clarifying washes. There are a few other products that build up on my hair also. I had a hair diagnositc by mymanebio and even though I was clarifying weekly, they said I had a lot of buildup in my baby fine hair! I personally don't have a problem with silicones or polyquats, but I really avoid them for the frustration of how affect my hair.
Have you tried chelating shampoos instead of just clarifying? They work wonders for my hair and I will always have one around to use every 2/3 weeks. May not work for you, but thought it would be worth mentioning :)
@@katetamsynI have tried chelating shampoo. They don't remove polyquats from my hair. I have not dared to try silicones. I just avoid all polyquats and my hair is much better. Thanks for the suggestion.

Have you ever tried the “pure Brazilian leave in conditioner?” What do you think of it?
Makes perfect sense - some ingredients work better in certain conditions than others! It’s certainly no different with silicones :)
I was wondering if you've tried Cake The Soft Touch Reset Restore Hair Oil yet? It is a dry oil serum that I am really liking this summer, it is the lightest I've found and doesn't feel or look oily on my hair to SOTC and tame frizz😁
This has become my new favorite serum
@@whitneybuckner2502 mine too!
Love the science facts. Thank you
Great video. Very freeing! Thank you!
Yesssss freeing is what I was going for!
Give me the hair plastics! Silicone free just does not work for me.
How do i know if my hair likes silicones or not?
Great video!!! Yessss👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you!! xx
You're a great teacher!
What clarifying shampoo do you recommend?
If you have hard water as well I love the Sally Beauty Ion brand one
Thank you for this!!!
Everyone’s hair is so different! I always say if your product or ingredient doesn’t work for you then don’t use it, regardless of what anyone else says!
Try Malibu hard water packets. I had the same issue. You only have to use them twice a year.
Great video! You are adorable ❤️
Aww shucks 🥰
What about Ogx shiny spray mist
So maybe I could get away with a shine spray with dimethicone. I've had no luck finding a CGM approved shine spray....spray not serum.
I don’t see why not!! It’s certainly worth a try! 💛
Hair hero for me
Thank you!
Yessss to this 🙌🙌🙌
Gotta love science!!! 🤓
Thank you!!!!
Of course!! Stay tuned for more science fun!
I love your haaaair!
