      We have a new video we are working on, a better tv wall unit. Will most probably launch end of January, with drawings available

    The TV unit really looks neat, one of my favourite DIY video, please can tell how you lock the French cleat system from sliding the unit from left to right? Cheers

    • @diywithgreg
      @diywithgreg  3 роки тому

      Thank you so much for the support!
      The unit is very heavy and you will need about 3 to 4 people to lift the unit so it won’t move, it will basically hang like a picture frame.
      We also design the unit so its removable, if maybe-in the future you have to remove the unit to sort out cables or have to do any repair work on plugs etc..

    Love the commentary on filming yourself at the client's house - I couldn't agree more. It's not wrong, but it is just weird...

      Took the words out of my mouth.
      Its very simple to hang the unit.

    How heavy was this and did you use lag bolts to fasten the chest to the wall?

    Great Job What is the size of screws did you used when you build the foating unit and the faoting shelves?

  • @1monarel

    Very nice design. Also very great video. Two Q's: 1) The French cleat that fits on the mdf board seems to be only fasten with normal chip board screws. Is the screw strong enough for the weight of the TV and the unit you built ? 2)Do you fasten the wall french cleat with an expansion screw?

    • @diywithgreg
      @diywithgreg  3 роки тому

      Thank you 😇
      Yes we use alot of chipboard screws, one screw will obviously break, but 20 screws on one beam will do the job.
      Yes we use extended roll bolts on the wall side.

    Net een vraag, ek het nou al 'n goedkoop boor, miter saag, figuursaag, en bandskuurmasjien gekoop. Wat sou jy aanraai as die volgende kopie? Ek doen tans maar klein projekte by die huis, maar wil definitief beter raak.

    What tool did you use to make that incision for the lock catch? As well as what tool do you use to make the holes for the round part of the lock? Thanks in advance.

    • @bobbg9041
      @bobbg9041 2 роки тому

      The Kerf for a lock can be dont 3 ways
      Chisel, router, or a bisker joint cutter.
      Or even just a skill saw doing a plung cut.

    Great Job Greg! It looks fantastic!!
    I had a question though .. What would you do if such floating unit was requested to have a hanging tv AND a soundbar?
    How would you advise to hang the soundbar below the tv?
    And how should the wiring be arranged behind the unit so that its servicable/accessible?
    Thanks!!

    You really should be wearing a mask when spraying. All that drift from the sprayer and you're inhaling that...not good for your lungs.

    The wooden part may be massive but your TV is miniscure. In this day and age, you will regret that purchased such a small TV. In other words, your design doesnt allow you to get a larger TV whch will be probelmatic down the road.
