Thank you for this video! 1st of all love how respectful and mature the entire conversation is. Moreover, appreciate how you have backed it with research and evidence. I agree completely with all the points you have raised and I have been feeling this for so long now. Like SO LONG!! How she has blurred personal and professional lines, her condescending tone in almost all her reels and a sense of overall unprofessionalism given when she starts everything by using the term "psychologist". Being a psychology student, I would have such mixed feelings but wasn't sure if anybody else noticed. This highlights the need for greater critical thinking not only in the general public, but in psychology students as well and to speak up. Again, I do appreciate her for the good work she has done but it cannot be used as an excuse to get away with things that aren't working. Thanks for this! Looking forward to more respectful, difficult and important conversations!
Thank you guys for bringing this up and rightly said👏🏼 Everyone has the right to share their opinions on the internet, but that cannot be done under the pretense of being a psychologist. You cannot generalize your opinion on behalf of an entire community or profession.
Very well put! Thank you so much for talking about this. A lot of young students from the field including myself were extremely disturbed by her views on this case. And I personally find a lot of her reels problematic, how she claims "I am a psychologist, let me explain", and then she would go on to give her opinions under the guise of psychologist. This is harmful for the community as well, as her personal views are being propagated as that of the entire community's. And someone not well versed with Psychology might get the wrong idea about us. For a psychologist, she comes across as judgemental. She is definitely entitled to express her views on any public platform, but shouldn't use her position for the sake of it.
Love this! I really feel this was needed to be said by someone, who actually has the influence and platform to say it, cause we as people who are just studying psychology, see others in our peers who genuinely are followers of the particular creator and are unable to our thoughts out there.
Love how you both are presenting your views professionally and without attacking the creator. This is such an important conversation esp for us mental health professionals to have. It's important to send out the message that what one creator says isn't the gospel truth and shouldn't just be taken at face value just because of popularity or a large following. Thank you for bringing this discussion to my feed and thank you for having this conversation! Kudos
Much needed. Shows the importance of mindful consumption, grey area and not putting people up on a pedestal, also using your brain and having your own opinions without blind faith. Also your video kind of shows how to talk about such situations without attacking and how it wasn't like she's completely wrong (black and white) and how there's still room for things changing.
Hi Chetna and Akshitara, First off, hats off to you both for the amazing work you’ve been doing! Your content has been a game-changer for budding psychologists, and I’ve been a long-time admirer of how much value you bring to the mental health space in India. 🌟 That said, thank you for making this video-it’s much needed. As someone who’s been in the mental health advocacy space for years, I’ve often found this person’s content deeply problematic. But speaking out against it felt like walking on eggshells, considering her large following that seems to accept her baseless claims as gospel. What I love about your video is that it does not attack her but addresses the bigger picture: with great influence comes great responsibility 🕸. As one of the country’s most visible mental health influencers, her credibility (or lack thereof) needs serious reflection! I genuinely hope this video reaches her followers and helps them see through the facade of "feminism" and "mental health advocacy" that she presents. It’s high time people start asking for evidence over opinions. 🙌 Thank you for always being a voice of reason in this space! 🌈
Love how problem is acknowledged and how non judgemental the video went. Yes, i also follow her, sometimes i ignore some videos. Sometimes i follow some principles of her. How you both mentioned, being from a psychology background we first learn being Non judgemental, empathetic, accept diversities, non opinionated. Somehow it all comes from learning and unlearn but need to be careful especially in the field where people look at your words ,follow with it. Thank you for this video.
Hi Chetna and Tara, thank you for sharing your views and discussing our frustrations. As an early career psychologist, I often feel disgusted and conflicted with the kind of content online. It is sad that much like everything else, mental health awareness and therapy have been converted into products- to be used to fix things. The nuances of a person are lost when content on mental health becomes preachy and generalized- we all seem to be operating in the 'one size fits all' approach. While the larger goal of therapy is inner healing and growth, a lot goes into building a therapeutic relationship that fosters this- unlike the mentos/centre fresh which 'alleviates anxiety'. It is a process and involves collaborative work from both ends. I agree with you when you point out the social responsibility of psychologists and therapists when they engage with larger audiences. I am also wondering how much and in what manner can a therapist engage with social media to avoid harm to their clients and other people. Perhaps, there is a need to keep a check on the feeling of omnipotence that a large following on social media often brings; and the pressure to convert real suffering into lifeless intellectualizations (clickbait). I truly believe that this is an important conversation to have.
Used to like her earlier, but I agree with you that lately, it is more of cribbing without being solution-focused. Completely aghast about the Center Fresh Ad. I can imagine if I was a guy, I wouldn't be comfortable going to her as a client, which is not a nice thing as a therapist.
I understand that the textbook ethics can't always be applied as it is in the real world, as each situation is different however there's a certain line for every ethic that you just don't cross as an MHP. Thanks for talking about this.
9:04 she has even liked comments calling her mother , it means the person doing the comment blindly trusts her and will take her word of the mouth as facts but when she will be asked to take accountability. She will easily say it's just my opinion don't take it so seriously but by liking such comments she will be just contradicting herself
being a psychologist myself. i agree with everything you said . I have been following Divija since a long term but i don't resonate with her views anymore .
I feel like your this video was much needed, divika has came out to be a feminist rather than a psychologist...few days back a friend of mine send a video of her where she called out the people who addressed women as 'women' which was so cringe and I had a hell lot of questions to her content but ignored all the while cuz I never think trolling someone is a good thing although o wasn't trolling but ig she won't understand the constructive criticism we aim to give but at the same time I want to say you guys some points like I think that the point you called out as of endorsing mentos ig that wasn't much needed cus at the end of the day she is a creator and has to earn also you said that while looking for a therapist you should look for some things and you mentioned about popularity which do not agree to at alll because being popular doesn't really mean that you would be a good therapist. Until and unless you don't experience you won't know how good of a therapist a person is and ig you said that point to save yourself from it cuz you are a therapist and a popular person...not trolling ik their are some of the priorities you set
Ok i wanna point out one more incident related maybe you guys aren't aware of that incident she made a video on a creator called Ajbhairav where she called him misogynist potential r@pist cause she didn't liked his content and all ,such Hypocrisy she has making videos about it's mental health and then calling a guy in his early twenties Misogynist Potential r@pist 🤷♂️
2:42 Ok i don't mean this in a aggressive way but you guys are not first talking about her Kabirk2h is also a Physcologist and he had already made a video on her also i don't know if sweatabh gangwar is a licensed therapist or not but he has definitely studied psychology you guys are doing great thing by making a video on her but you guys are not first
Oh my god! Finally. I unfollowed her a while ago when she posted a video about Randir Kapoor, it was so sad the way she attacked his entire experience with therapy with her opinions and then DEMEANED HIM. It was such a disheartening thing to see from a therapist 💔 I hope this she changes her ways does better.
I believe people in the field of psychology are more than enough to break this field. No need of any outsiders. This is the biggest con of this field in India. THE BIGGEST.
Yes many of my comments has also been deleted from her insta page and yt both evenn though i explained my pov very briefly without any aggressive or strong language she completely exposed herself when she tried to Falsely copyright strike Swetabh gangwar's video thankfully youTube rejected her appeal. Cause the video was under fair use
Was waiting for something like this. Her content is getting worse day by day. It feels like she got a psychology degree so she can just say "im a psychologist" and say whatever she wants

The only thing constant is Change. And that's how we grow. Even people with influence. People without influence.

Absolutely. Thank you for acknowledging our efforts and voicing out your views. Some changes really need to happen and this is a start, we believe. :)
