By definition of a real derby, Sunderland v Newcastle is not a real derby. Not from the same city. Frankly, I'm not bothered either way
A true Derby is two teams from the same town or city, ie, Liverpool Everton, Forest and County, Manchester United Manchester City.
8 miles a part some sunderland areas have tyneside postcodes and vice versa, Washington is a newcastle and sunderland area so of course its a derby, and it's one of the most intense ones, what about leeds and Bradford?? Or bradford v huddersfield? What you suggest city wise would means nearly all teams wouldn't actually have a derby
