In this video I entered the Wowie Game Jam 3.0, a game jam hosted by fellow UA-camr, Jonas Tyroller. In this jam, me and Deynum Studio made a very simple quiz game with multiple paths and endings, where you can annoy the narrator, sort of like the Stanley Parable or There is No Game.
About me:
Hey, I'm BenBonk, an indie game developer who uses the Unity Engine. I've made and released many small games before on my itch page, though now I'm attempting to make my first commercial game, Slimekeep. Slimekeep is a roguelike, using a very limited color palette, similar to Enter the Gungeon, though with a few interesting mechanics, such as keeping slimes alive longer will earn you more money, and the ability to capture slimes to power up your slime pet. If you enjoyed anything you saw, please consider subscribing, as it really helps me out.

Cool concept. Speaking entirely from the perspective of someone who wasn't involved in this project, I had an idea that might have sped up development a bit for something like this. Since I only have this video to go on, I am not positive that my idea would work, but I imagine it might have helped a bit.
I noticed that the script that your partner was writing looked kind of like it was just formatted for human readability, with a little bit of structure to it for organization. But it might have saved a lot of time if it was formatted as some sort of computer readable data structure like JSON. That way, you could just write code to import the file, and follow the series of question/answer paths.
I imagine the JSON would look something like this. There's a lot more structure around the text, but a lot of it could be copy/pasted and modified to save time.
{
"q3": {
"text": "Question 3, which of these shapes has 3 sides?",
"answers": [
{
"text": "Square",
"color": "red",
"next": "q3.2"
},
{
"text": "Triangle",
"color": "blue",
"next": "q3.1"
},
{
"text": "Octagon",
"color": "green",
"next": "q3.2"
},
{
"text": "Circle",
"color": "yellow",
"next": "q3.2"
}
],
"idleDialogue": [
"if you know your shapes, this should be an easy one",
"I think the answer is pretty obvious"
]
},
"q3.1": {
"text": "That is correct, a triangle has 3 sides",
"next": "q4"
},
"q3.2": {
"text": "Are you stupid?",
"answers": [
{
"text": "Yes",
"color": "red",
"next": "q3.3"
},
{
"text": "No",
"color": "blue",
"next": "q3.4"
}
]
}
}
Wow, yeah. It definitely was formatted to Human readability. I've heard this from a few other people, and if this project ever was to go commercial a solution like this would be really helpful. Thing is, I Deynum and I both don't know how to use JSON's, but it could be something helpful to learn. I've also heard someone else talk about formatting it into a google sheets file, and import that into unity, which I thought up during development, but I just didn't have time to learn how to do such a thing, and actually implement it. Thanks for the ideas though.
I saw a fellow squid.
