    I really like the rod building videos. I learn a great deal about different rods and how to use them. Maybe a custom build rod for 50k giveaway 😉. A custom made rod from an actual pro angler, that'd be like owning a Picasso!

    You need to do a series on rod building. Maybe 1 video a month. Id love to build one of these but need more confidence on building one. I have seen several of your rod buid videos but we need a how to guide from start to finish. Yes i know Mud Hole tackle has some good videos but i think you could do a better job for us armatures.

    You make rod building seem very easy to do.
    I wish I had some 1,2,3 step by step instructions on how to actually build that rod.
    I’ve got the 901 G-loomis on back order now and still waiting. You’re right about that cost too. Thanks for the video Matt. 🎣

    I love the black maribou jig. It catches Smallies even down here on the TN river. Got a cheap 49.00 dollar rod from Academy that works just fine for maribou and 5lb smallies 👍

    I love mine! For your reader family - give it a try!! A medium action just doesn't cut it. I'll generally have five or six rods on deck for the different methods and I'd be real poor if I didn't build. Matt I'm wishing I was there. Lake Erie and local lake's keep out of trouble with the wife. I don't know if she worries or just wants me around to open jars. lol

    🍺I agree with all the benefits Matt mentioned about the MHX 9000 rod he’s making. I fish a G Loomis NRX+ 901 for all the same reasons. It is also a 7’-6” medium light action rod. It’s one of my so called “specialty”technique rods for Ned rigs, hair jigs, and small swim baits. I even throw very small Megabass Type 3 crank baits on it. If you put a high quality spinning reel with a great drag system on it there is no concern with any size bass. My pick won today👍. My MLF picks are also off to a decent start. Thanks for the on the water footage again. Love😍it.

    Purposely targeted small mouth yesterday. Didn't go great. Blanked. Realized I need to upgrade and specialize some gear and tackle for them. I'm mostly a largemouth power fishing kinda guy . Not that some of them can't get it done but like you said, the right gear for the right techniques is key.

    Hi Matt- it’s unfortunate that the “direct contact” spinning reel seat is far from direct contact with the actual blank. The hand actually contacts the spacer, with contacts the glue, which contacts the wraps of arbor tape, which contacts the blank. I’d think that the wraps especially dampen the feel vs touching the blank itself. Thoughts? It sure would be nice to have a true direct contact reel seat.

    • @MattStefanFishing
      @MattStefanFishing  2 роки тому +1

      its true that its no direct contact, but the connection is so tight that it really doesnt dampen sensitivity

    Love this blank! Thanks for mentioning it a while back. I also used your recipe to build the CB907 crankbait rod. What blank do you use for a worm rod? I tend to throw a Texas rigged worm or stick bait with a 3/16 weight a lot so I need a rod with a tip. MB844 is a little too light in the tip.

    • @MattStefanFishing
      @MattStefanFishing  2 роки тому

      i like the NMB-873 and NMB-874 for flipping texas rigs

    • @patricknoll4637
      @patricknoll4637 2 роки тому

      Give the NMB-873.5 a try, it's a great blank, one of my favorite rods. I have an HM-MB874 and HM-MB844. The 87' mag bass has a much stiffer tip than 84" Mag Bass's. IDK why but it does

    Matt, when you reference your guide spacing … are you referencing from the front of the reel spool, or the front of the reel seat. I don’t fully understand “from top of reel seat with locking nut tightened down” if this an up-lock build. Thanks!

    • @MattStefanFishing
      @MattStefanFishing  Рік тому

    Great stuff, I need to build one of my own rods. How would a Dobyn's 701 work with this hair jig? It's the same weight as this rod, only 7' long, so a little shorter and I have it in the garage already.

    • @MattStefanFishing
      @MattStefanFishing  2 роки тому

      it would perform OK, but you really want a longer rod for this application in my opinion.

    Hello Matt, I have what I hope is not too long of a question that maybe you could answer with your many years of Knowledge.
    I live in NW Ohio and was walking around A large reservoir today. I noticed a bunch of Bits of dead Crawfish claws and shells on the rip rap dykes.
    The Shells were all red and Orange in color, i know Crustaceans turn red when Boiled/Heated for Consumption.
    My question is Did the Sun/heat (80°F) turn the shells red?
    Or is that the color of the Crawfish before they died and dried up on shore?
    Because if so that would really help me match the Hatch for the Crawfish species.
    Sorry if this was too long winded, many thanks for the constant content.
