And putting the EQ's in? Mechanical sirens are a very hardcore tradition in the US fire services, nationwide. The Federal Q is the quintessential fire engine siren in the US. Numerous large cities banned their use, ostensibly because of noise, though probably more so because an electronic siren is far cheaper and the huge cities cut costs wherever they can. Federal came up with the EQ and the big cities like NYC and Chicago pressed to get those put onto their trucks to get the 'old sound' back. As far as halogen rotators go, LED lighting has taken over across the board. Most emergency services in the US use LED's.
Rare or not rare, a great video man, nice catch. For me it’s one of the most friendly firehouses to visit in NYC. They are all great, but these guys are something special. I love the EQ2B siren I must admit, it’s the real sound of nyc for me
Given that this is Manhattan, you’d think they’d need the high-rise unit more often!? But I guess it comes down to the FDNY response model and the type of equipment it carries. I’m sure high-rise fires can’t be a very rare occurrence in NYC though… 😁
The equipment it carries is specifically for fighting fires in a high rise building. Lighting stands, generators, etc. I don't know about FDNY but Chicago's high rise units carry airbags that can be deployed to catch jumpers.
Love the halogen rotators on the roof and that PA300! Don't know why the FDNY killed that back in the early 00s.
Don’t know either! I love how they sound!

Don’t worry. Lotta FDNY companies are putting their own Q sirens on.
Those old sirens remind me one horrible horrible day.
Yep. 9/11. Never Forget.

They sure are! Thanks for watching!
I love the bell on the engine 39
Me too! Shame they don’t use it.
Came to say the same.
Nothing will beat the sound of a peaked PA300 with a older horn
It does sound great!
That high rise unit is absolutely beautiful
I agree!!
First time driving that thing, sorry guys
Haha.
I’m going to guess HRU 2 does not have a Q siren?
Dooope!
@@Coastal._1228 why would it? It’s New York
@@md_randoms2429 didn’t the other responding unit have a Q?
Nice Video i love the horn on the high rise unit!
Thank you!! I love the horn as well!
Awesome catch!
Thanks!!!!
Excellent catch brother !
Thanks!!!
At least 1 of them units has a REAL siren
Haha. Yep.

It’s weird. The unit should be used more often.
It it’s kinda weird I agree, but they are “only” used in a couple of 10 signals as far as I know.
Love that old siren too
Me too!
Same. The iconic PA300 should return to the FDNY's fire fleet including their future trucks.
@@davidkaiser1004 Of for sure. What I’d like is the PA300 package with a mounted Federal Q. That way you get both idiotic FDNY sirens
Yea!
They need new one asap
It’s doing well. Haha.
Wouldn't have thought a high rise unit responding in NYC would be rare since the whole place is high rises.
Look good.
Thanks!
You can tell they don't have to drive the HRU often
Oh. They drive it about 59 times a year.
Wow amazing
Thanks Justin!
Is HR-2 permanently staffed or do firefighters from whatever company that are responding with it jump in and drive it?
Staffed by firefighters from 39/16
How about moving the dumpster outta the way?
It’s been there forever.
Can someone tell me what a High Rise Unit is? I'm no familiar with the term.
It’s a truck that carries equipment specifically for hi rise fires.
Some people who are family knows Live right on that street
Wonder if they hear sirens all the time.
Yeah they do but it doesn't bother them
Thats good.
Oh yeah I got photos of engine 39 and ladder 16 with me in front of them
There was this firefighter who didn't mind
❤❤❤❤impressive fire truck 🚒
Yep!!
What is a high rise unit? First time I’ve seen one.
A hi-rise Unit carries equipment specifically for hi-rise fires.
What exactly does a high rise unit do?
Has special equipment for hi rise fires
Sorry guys, but I am not from the U.S. Why this HR-2 unit is so special? What does it make so unique?
There’s not many of them in the FDNY or across the country. Pretty rare to record w video of it since it’s rarely reposnding

All true.
