Making the Hummingbird DVD Excerpts

I've made a 2 hour video that shows in detailed steps how I make a hummingbird wood carving. It starts with how to rough carve the wood, then how to finish carve each piece, fitting the pieces together, wood burning the feather details, assembling the pieces, and finally a full half hour on painting your carving. In this video I took a minute out of each of these five sections so that you can see what the DVD looks like. Thanks for the nice comments,Floyd and Mary. I did the best I could and I'm quite proud of the result. Making the video wasn't easy- it was easier to make the hummingbird! LOL Donna

Here is where the DVD is as well as precut kits with glass eyes and a 17-page brochure detailing how to make the hummer. I also have a 3-day class where we make the completed hummingbird. It isn't an easy project, but so far nobody has failed to make a really beautiful hummingbird in the class. I'm going to be teaching it in Iowa in June at the International Woodcarvers Congress.

I'm using basswood for this hummingbird, though for most other birds I've used tupelo because it is lighter in weight. Thanks to everyone who commented on my video. The DVD and other aids are available on my web site:
