Hey guys! Just wanted to let you know that my new book, Things That Matter, is finally here. I put my heart into it, and I can’t wait to share it with you. You can pick up a copy at www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/676394/things-that-matter-by-joshua-becker/
Something worth mentioning is Mr. Becker's articulation. Very few people on UA-cam are capable of using the English Language cohesively! I am an English teacher in Greece and I use this channel to prepare my students for their English exams!
Great philosophy. My late mom however was a quilter, and her friend had a bumper sticker that said “she who dies with the biggest stash wins” . After her death there was So much stuff, but I gotta say it was very well organized. 😳
My Mum and Dad were presented with a teaset cum dinner service on their wedding day in 1949 Each time my Air Force Dad was transferred to a new place Mum's concern was getting all her precious crockery there safely ... This went on for many years ... Now I have her teaset and the memories ( my brother has the dinner set portion) Too precious for daily use ... And too much sentiment attached to discard ! Fortunately for me my daughter in law has taken charge ... Meanwhile , at 71 , I'm doing my best to transition from hoarder to minimalist !!
Unfortunately, the “accumulation of physical possessions” WAS the greatest thing in my mom’s life who lived alone for 50 years. For her, everything had value even if it was a broken and useless item. Garage sales and flea markets were her obsession. The “accumulation” became hoarding and she lost total control. She viewed her life as “normal” even if there was no more space in the house to walk through anymore. Now at 90 years old, having suffered a stroke and not being able to live by herself anymore, my sisters and I, (over mom’s objections) have started the clean up process to give her a better quality of life. Unfortunately, she does not see it that way and it has not been smooth sailing because she wants to hold on to everything. The whole project has been physically and mentally exhausting. The accumulation of material things can become a dangerous obsession like in my mom’s case. Therefore, yes, I agree, let’s simplify our lives and get rid of everything we don’t need. Thank you and I apologize for the long comment.
We keep a cardboard donation box in our home. As we dress each day, if we find any clothes that no longer fits or don't want anymore, we drop it in the box. As I go into cabinets or closets, I add to the box. Once the box is full, I place it immediately in my car to be dropped off at a donation center on my way to run errands. This works best for us. Thanks for your helpful videos.
Great idea!! Because some of the things I put on, I take right back off because I don’t like how they feel or fit or how I look in them, so if I had a box right there I know I could just toss the item in there and be rid of it once and for all instead of repeating the same scenario in a couple weeks!! I am getting a box in the next five minutes to put in my bedroom where I get dressed everyday for this purpose! Great advice! Thank you!
Tried that, got tired of storing old clothes in the house and in the car, now I just throw it away. I don’t want to create future tasks for myself. Once you get down to a reasonable set of clothes you won’t have any usable clothes to get rid of anyway.
I bought a new coffee mug that I didn’t need but I fell in love with. So the rule is I have to get rid of an old one now. I ended up getting rid of 2 coffee mugs and 3 small picture frames that I was keeping “just in case”. So a win for me, 1 new item in 5 old items out!!! It feel so good 😊
I buy a new covered coffee mug on every vacation. I walk on the beach with it, go hiking with it, wake up to it and I get a flood of great memories each time I use it back home. I keep about 5 or 6 and donate the oldest one when I return from trips
We downsized when we moved some years ago and I never missed any of the stuff we got rid of EXCEPT my books. I had thought to myself that if I ever wanted to read a certain book again I could just check it out of the library --- not true! I'm in my sixties and many of my favorite titles have simply been thrown away by public libraries and are no longer available, even from WorldCat. And you can't always get it as an ebook either. So now although I have a lot of books on my Kindle I still have my physical bookcase containing my paper-and-ink books. My books are my friends and they are keepers.
I agree with you. Books are going to be harder to get a hold of in the future. And I think that it is healthier for us to read actual books rather than pages on a screen.
@@ronnieking3848 Green Money, A World in Spell, The Young Clementina, Kate Hardy, Mrs. Tim of the Regiment --- all by D.E. Stevenson, one of my favorite authors. These were published in the 1930s and 1940s; too late to be in the public domain and all before 1950, which was the cutoff date for borrowing from WorldCat when I was using the Hillsborough Library system. The library used to have a whole shelf of her books, then one day -- poof! -- all gone except a few. I did get to borrow several on my sister's card from Pinellas County, but for many years I couldn't get them. But several years ago somebody rediscovered Stevenson and re-printed the Buncle books, and finally, very recently, a number of her other titles have been re-published on Kindle! yay! Even A World in Spell, (which has sort of a science fiction background, a singular departure from her usual settings) under another name, The Empty World. I had managed to re-acquire a number of her titles through judicious shopping on eBay, etc., but I still wish I had just kept the ones I had.
I take notice of the difference between "organizing" and "de-cluttering", as they are distinct and separate ideas. If you take many possessions and just organize them well it means you still have "too much stuff" and it becomes exhausting to always be repeating that process. If you "de-clutter" and have less items, it is easy to clean, simple and basic and all things have their beauty, place of position in the home and function. I have been on both sides of the fence (excess) and (minimalist) and I am totally happy with being a minimalist. My time is freed up, I do not need to spend any more on junk that takes up space and it makes cleaning easy and time efficient. In my senior years it has simplified and enriched my life. :-)
I became a minimalist while cleaning houses for American families, I got overwhelmed every time I walked in into those houses filled with stuff. Now I live in Brazil and I’m very happy I’ve become a minimalist❤️
Just hope she doesn't end 80 percent of her sentences with an upwards inflection making her sound like she's asking a question when in fact she's stating facts. It's super annoying.
Thank you, Joshua. I love these 4 tips. Had been in your course, I chose our living room first. And it took mé 4 weeks and I did not understand why until this video. It was because our living room is my office (with all my paper clutter in it), my bedroom, Kids play room and our family and TV room. :)
All clutter is either the result of a deferred decision eg: "I will probably sell it or maybe donate it at some point " (nothing happens) or an incomplete action eg: you start decluttering but get bored, distressed or lose focus. Do it in small steps, room by room and allow yourself a break after every 10 minute burst of action. Operate by the "do it now" principle and don't eat into your precious time by procrastinating. If it helps imagine someone is imminently going to pay you a visit - it is amazing how much you can get done. Quick note - don't sell, just donate. You'll never get a return on your investment -it's called a 'sunk cost'. Instead, imagine that the money you spent on that book, dress, handbag or DVD was spent on food - which has now been eaten, enjoyed and no longer has a function in your life or home.
Thank you Mary! I needed to read this!!! I like how you brought up the point to imagine what I spent money on was on food and I can't do much to get it back. It has served its purpose so now it's time to move on (: It really is all about perspective, so thank you!
Thanks for the four steps to a clutter-free home. Well said ! Our society's bad, heavy habit of consumerism is reflected in all the donated items to major retail thrift stores that are not sold in 6 weeks sit at the back of the store on pallets to be sold on the commodities market for recycling. Only about 10 percent of donated items are sold while only one percent goes to needy people. The charity donation centers are overwhelmed with our constant consumerism. We all need to lessen our consumerism. Television and radio commercials push our choices of constant buying to have the latest and greatest items.
This really resonates. I've always had a lot of stuff, in particular clothes, books, shoes, cooking appliances and crockery, accumulated over time, and always thought this was normal. However during the last couple of months stuck at home, surrounded by all this, looking at it everyday, I've realised that most of it I don't even use or need. Decluttering all in one go is very overwhelming, and so have been doing this in small manageable sections. If you put aside say one hour a day or even half an hour it really makes a difference over time. I've got rid of 6 boxes of things I don't need already in the past month.
@@valerierogers9609 Are you saying this is a bad thing? Personally I would say it's the silver lining of months of lockdown/quarantine, it's allowed people to realise what is important in life. Excess stuff is not one of them.
It’s been a process but now I’m looking at my stuff with a new outlook. I only want to keep things I use daily in my home. It’s so satisfying to be able to do laundry and know that everything fits right away after it’s folded. Realizing that I’ve been keeping my past and not able to live my current stage in my life has helped with the decluttering process. Thank you!
I may struggle with clothes simply because I need a wardrobe in my current size, in a size or two up and in a size or two down. (Disease. Medication.) But I've been able to scale the latter two collections down to the basics. I'm happy.
I love the encouraging style of this. When you mentioned yarn stash part of me cringed with what I have left to go through and the other half delighted at what I’ve decluttered, I had a large bag of machine yarn, I’ve never had a machine! It’s gone now, was one of the first things to go, and knowing I no longer have that stuff will make me smile for years to come. I held on to it for over a decade! The goodwill shop (charity shop over here) were delighted with it. And so was I - seeing the back of it. There is often a lot of emotion stored in stuff. The inversion table I bought to help my back (following surgery) that makes it worse, gone. The crochet stuff I bought as a hobby when I was in a wheelchair, part gone - still decluttering (and replaced with walking!) The clothes that I desired to fit me one day, gone! I’m sure if I’m that slim again It’ll be ok to treat myself to a new wardrobe. Gone gone gone. And more to go. 🤗
I've found during this lockdown period that involving my daughter in my cleaning schedule really helps with the clutter free home. She gets really involved in putting stuff away after use because she now knows how much longer it takes to clean around stuff. I've been working through my home minimising for years. The kitchen was by accident when we cleared out everything for renovation. We only bought things back as we needed them and found that about 60% of the items never came back. This spurred me on to the rest of the house, little by little. Back to the present day, I had been planning to redecorate my daughter's bedroom this year and had started buying supplies before lockdown began. We decided as we had time on our hands to get started- same with the kitchen took everything out first, and you know what? She wasn't as keen for everything to go back in as she had been. (Probably the big clear play space she now had!) So we meticulously went through everything in sections; desk and art/creative supplies, stuffed toys, her many "collections" etc, etc... over the course of a few weeks so it wasn't overwhelming - she decided what to keep and what to move on, (there was a cooling off period too, as we couldn't actually get to donations she had the chance to reclaim items if she did change her mind). I have to say, it was amazing working through this process with her and she has greater understanding of what she enjoys playing with and the benefits of putting them away afterward.
Exactly. one time my in-law brought over a 3 foot choc candy bar w/ peppermint in it.....for Christmas. This season there is so much food/ candy that most will have already if they are hosting the party. We just look at it and she said, "Well, it was on sale." She also believed in buying many things for each grandchild, and each grown child. Eeks, after years, decade...most of the grown felt they had to do the same, ....crazy, crazy waste of resources - our brain for trying to please her, our money, time, and more time to wrap/ hide these things for Christmas. And then, when gifts were past out, it would take 40 mins to open all this junk. One little 7 yr girl rushed thru opening gifts, "Is there any more gifts for me?" eek......I see this child once every other year at best. Thank you Joshua....you have helped more than you will know.
Are you INSANE? It's on SALE! You may never see it again at this price. Worse. It may be on sale because it's discontinued. YOU MAY NEVER SEE IT AGAIN. EVER! Before you give into your knee-jerk impulse to be "frugal" or "simplify your life", THINK it through. Think about where this one moment of weakness is going. You won't just leave the store empty handed; you will be consciously choosing an EMPTY LIFE, DEVOID OF ALL MEANING. Whether you are a person of faith or not, the fact is GOD HAS GIVEN YOU THIS OPPORTUNITY. I am praying that you will accept this gift of His grace, that you will take out your charge card and head for check-out. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.
I found you when my son was 1. He's 6 now and I'm still here learning. I've become a minimilist since then which has changed my life completely. Whenever I want to accumulate things I remember your story and stop myself. Thank you for all you do. God bless your family always
The first point is so important. I am so confident that I can do this after 10+ moves in less than a decade and dragging crap from place to place, never truly unpacking or removing the old stuff. My parents are professional consumers as they were taught by their parents. Between them, my husband, and so many others, I'm told all the time that it's pointless to bother putting my time and effort into this. They say houses will fill right back up, it's a job that you can't finish, etc. And like, yeah, even after I reach my goals there will be more work to do periodically... But that doesn't mean making my home easier to live in isn't worth this effort. It doesn't mean the differences I feel in my mental isn't worth this effort. I feel less and less overwhelmed every week since I started on this path... It would be nice to get other people on my side, supporting and even helping me, but they lack this first point... To believe it is possible. I believe it is. I hope my kids don't fall into these consumerism traps that I'm so wrapped into already. We are a young family. I want to focus on them and not the mess....
I like the way you speak. It’s like a well ordered minimalist room. There is space between your words for though process, contemplating what your saying. When people talk fast, often prattle on about nothing and incessantly or going off on lots of tangents it’s like a cluttered messy room that short circuits my brain.
Yes, I agree. I don’t know why some people complain he talks too slow. If anything, I dislike “chatterboxes” who speak so fast it seems they’re on speed. SMH 🤦♀️
I appreciate that he doesn’t fill his videos with excessive dialog or flowery speeches just to fill space. I however prefer fast talkers, the brain is capable of processing information at a much faster pace than a human can speak, too many pauses and my mind wanders. That said, your point is valid and I’m a fan of his videos, so slow talking won’t drive me away.
I appreciate the "you can do it" attitude and the thoughts behind it. I will be referring to this video whenever I need a pep talk and motivation. Thank you
Yes, I can’t agree more, the first thing is to believe. I remember that time when I decided to declutter my room, I want to sell me big drawer and buy a smaller one to keep my stuff. But to my surprise, I was able to let go so much thing and realise that I don’t need a drawer, not even a smaller one! I regretted so much for ordering the new drawer, I contact the seller immediately and lucky enough, I was able to cancel my order and get full refund. So folk, keep calm and do what’s necessary, only after decluttering you really know what you really need.
I apply the principle used in manufacturing called 5S: 1. Sort-sort stuff into useful, potentially useful and useless things (except for things that are sentimental) if you haven't used something for a year, than you probably won't ever use it. 2. Set in order-now that you have your items all sorted out, find a place for that item. Every time you use the item, return it to its place. There is a place for everything and everything is in its place. 3. Shine-now that you have your items all sorted out, make sure they are clean and maintained. 4. Standardize-now that everything is sorted, set in order and shined, it is time to implement that everywhere (in the house or workplace) 5. Sustain-make sure everyone in the family knows about it and makes it a habit to follow the rules. Communication is key. Now your home (or workplace) is clutter free. :)
Last weekend, my husband and I took a car full of things to donate, give away to family, etc. While we still have a long way to go, I immediately felt a little less stressed!
Thank you Joshua, you had inspiring me not to fall in consumerism. On my BD I will give to myself a year of not buying clothes/shoes. It will be a journey, but I can do it.🙏
I have started decluttering my home. Once I have tackled a small project I feel so much better. So much money has been wasted . It does make you think what is really important in life. I have kept a few CD’s and thrown out a lot , because you can get all your favourite music on UA-cam. Thank you for your tips. 👍
We as a family of 7 working on our decluttering journey for 5 years now, finaly its so easy to maintain, that we decided to do low buy year, just to buy needs, not wants, to stop accumulating more stuff.
I used lockdown to do what seems like my final declutter. I have been minimalist for years and it's ongoing but being home for 15 weeks so far just made me think if we aren't using it now then when will we. I was careful with seasonal and hobby things though with them being on hold at the minute
This is good practical advice. Simple but effective steps, owning less reduces stress and makes cleaning up easier. I also like the fact that you spoke of not falling back into re-purchasing of items that are not necessary. That is the critical point. You will feel like you have truly succeeded if you do not go back into that habit of excess. Excellent video.
Thinking if you organise your stuff is the way to keep the home tidy is why i changed to minimalist. Almost 10 years of stress from constant organising made me say enough is enough
Telepathy! Just one week ago, I talked with my husband for an entire evening about Nr. 1 "Believe that it is possible" ..... where this self-image of a "cluttered person" stems from in my life and that I have identified it as the biggest obstacle to accomplish the last mile in our downsizing and taking full charge of our lives process. Very nice and re-inforcing to see this confirmed by an expert. ;-)))
I have probably donated a bag a week for a decade , that’s #1 , how slow I went , #2 , how much I had and #3 how minimal I live now! I can always find something to donate
This was just what I needed today, thank you! I don't believe in coincidence, and this video popped up just at the right time! I am so embarrassed by my clutter and excess stuff. So tired of panic-cleaning when someone is coming over. I never fully get organized by stuffing things in bags and shoving them under beds and in closets. After watching this video, I feel much more hopeful and that things are doable. I feel excited about getting started!
As I already live in a pretty small space over time I’ve gradually learned based on my lifestyle what I really use all of the time. It’s not very much…more is going out later today 🙌🏼
Thank you Joshua, we have been on this journey of de-cluttering our home for over 1 year and a bit more. I want to say that we are getting close to the end. I am so excited! We were able to renovate our basement to include a family room and bedroom for our 14 year old son. We are now planning on making an office, and a little computer nook in the basement too. As we clear out the clutter I feel the load lighten, I feel the guilt lift and my heart is happy to have this space. It has been difficult at times but is getting so much easier. I am amazed now when I look back at the items I kept. I know now that my space is valuable and I would rather use it than just have stuff in it. Thank you for changing our life and continuing to provide such great advice. I have been sharing your videos on my F.B. page and I had one of my friends reach out to me and say that it has been helping her to go to go through her possessions. It is an amazing process of how my values have changed what I wanted before I no longer want or need. I am happy with less and find it fills me up more than any item ever could. Cheers and Have a Wonderful Day!!!!! Jennifer.
Many thanks for another great video. The last "trick" is such an important one; otherwise, you will refill those spaces with things that will then have to be removed at a later time. I have found it so much easier to have people over to my house now that I have reduced the possessions that I once had in my main living areas. I don't want to slide back to the way it was; I am so enjoying my house now that it is more clutterfree.
You are definitely on the right track - get rid of stuff. But how? Before I start to clean, say a closet, I borrow an audio book from the library. Put it on my player in the same room as the closet. The main intent, for me, is to keep me in one spot as I tend to get distracted. It has been unbelievable how much I can get done while listening to a good book. (The Librarian suggested maybe I have ADD and I bet she is right.) For anyone who can't get started try this.
Look eagerly forward to Sat mngs Joshua. After my Bible readings, its complete with listening to our guardian angel Joshua talk. Its so reassuring..thanks for supporting my inner urge to declutter but being sentimental about my clutter(things belonging to my parents who are no more & loads of our life's journey mementos) are my biggest obstacles .But..you very lovingly coax me to give up all this clutter & I will...definitely one day..already 60..maybe one day...😁
So many people on this channel can take lessons from you. I appreciate that you are well spoken and to the point. I love learning as much as I can in a short period of time!
Furniture gone. Ready to install some shelves for the stuff that resided there that is necessary. Looks like that will happen over the weekend. Designed the the whole shebang myself, including a table upon which my computer/workspace will occupy, but it will fold away. :D All the shelves, table, etc. fit on a 2.5 X 1.83 Metre board with some leftover pieces for $57 USD. After that, the "hall" we have here, and some final LP "vinyl" records to distribute, then adios! We're free! ¡Saludos afectuosos desde México!
Thank you for the great advice. I have had trouble clearing excess things in my house. Now my house is full of clutter and it makes me feel helpless and overwhelmed.
I can’t believe I didn’t think about looking you up on UA-cam! Your book Minimalist Home is basically my bible and it had been about three years since I read it and since then I have moved in and moved out of a family estate and I just reacquired so much stuff. And I had to pick up your book and read it again…only 30 pages in and I remembered everything I forgot! Now I get to watch you on UA-cam as well! Thank you for saving my home!
"What would ai use if I didn't have this?" is a great question for when I'm facing the items that other people can see are "random," but that I am still clinging onto.
After some really hard years I felt like I needed some glamour in my life, and bought a lot of clothes and interiour design. It was fun but some years later I realize I still did not use a lot of the glamourous clothes and accessories. Now I am getting rid of a lot. I feel I needed all those thing for a short period of my life. Now I try to find the balance and minimalism inspires me.
Hi there, I watch your videos from the south of France , they are always so inspiring for me...thank you for questionning our consumer habits ... Very useful and very true..
I am trying to get rid of stuff. I love the idealist minimalist living. It's work, work and work. Yes it's possible to live in a clutter free environment that brings inspiration. Thank you for influencing me in this area of my life. 💕
That's one that needs to be said, imo - don't replace consumerism with eating! Even eating out, luxurious locations, having a regularly bbc, etc. That's totally fine, and healthy, in a lot of ways, as a treat/event/party, but it's not a way of life either, nope.
Thank you for your videos. I love your straightforward quality content and your humble and caring manner of bringing the content across. Thanks so much!
OMG i so need to hear this!!! i´m a minimalist ... but pheww i still feel the urge to shop!!! but i´m starting to not shop ..... and it feels soo liberating ... thx
I've learned to enjoy "window shopping" I can put things in my online basket, but then I don't push "check out" it scratches my itch but doesn't add to my things.
Thank you for introducing minimalism You explain so clearly that its just settle in my mind. I have started a minimilism journey because of you.You have motivated me
Great input! I started with the easy things first. Drawer by drawer and shelf by shelf. Every day one spot. After 3.5 month I nearly went through all my stuff and its great. One pile for chaity. Some things to throw away and a lot of free space. It feels great! Yes, and since over half a year I do not buy 'things' if not really needed. So I save a lot of money and I will not get back into clutter...
My parents' home was so full by the time they were elderly! Many, many collectables, books and paper. My dad was an artist and had stacks of his art, much of it ruined by moisture. 😔 When it was time to clear it out to sell, it was a huge task! I couldn't get back to help because of Covid and travel restrictions. The work nearly killed my poor sister who already suffers from back issues. You don't want to have to take on this task, or leave it for your family to clear out. Start decluttering NOW. I shouldn't talk because I am guilty of it too! But, finally making the effort.
Once; some years back....I got sooo sick of the “junk drawer” in my home....so I took a trash bag, pulled the drawer out, and dumped the entire contents of the drawer into the bag. And put it out to the road for the garbage truck. That was over 20 years ago.....and NOT ONCE, have I ever wondered or realized what I threw out. Not once have I said “darn it did I throw that out?” To this day; clearly....I didn’t needed ANY of it. Or ever even knew what I got rid of.
Lynn here started a few weeks ago I’m a neat freak however it was amazing how many items I had now it’s only what I need. Clutter free and it’s wonderful
Hey guys! Just wanted to let you know that my new book, Things That Matter, is finally here. I put my heart into it, and I can’t wait to share it with you. You can pick up a copy at www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/676394/things-that-matter-by-joshua-becker/
Deep cleaned my bathroom! That was the start of it all. Now every drawer cannot escape my WRATH OF CLEANLINESS.
Something worth mentioning is Mr. Becker's articulation. Very few people on UA-cam are capable of using the English Language cohesively! I am an English teacher in Greece and I use this channel to prepare my students for their English exams!

Great idea -- thanks for sharing!
That’s exactly what I was thinking of doing and suggested it to my sisters.
Thanks for the reminder and encouragement !
Great idea!! Because some of the things I put on, I take right back off because I don’t like how they feel or fit or how I look in them, so if I had a box right there I know I could just toss the item in there and be rid of it once and for all instead of repeating the same scenario in a couple weeks!! 1. Believe it is possible
2. Remove the excess
3. Implement clutter-free habits
4. Slow the accumulation of things
It feel so good 😊
@Wyn S yes now that you mention it I believe I’ve done that too! 😂
@Wyn S That clutter of extra men can be annoying & time consuming.
Exhausting really.
@Wyn S I agrees. Now that I’m reaching my 60s I limit myself to 2men!😊
I buy a new covered coffee mug on every vacation.

Name 5 books you don't have that you're missing. I am close to your age and I really want to know.
@@TheJoyfulEye I have never read this author. I will give it a try.
It’s okay to keep what you love❤. Keep your books. So many of my hubby’s books are out of print.
I love that your videos are short and you go straight to the point. Great content, too. Gracias! 🙂
Thanks.
Yeah. So many UA-camrs aren’t going straight to the point and publish long videos without adding any value.
Yes I concur no lengthy personal off the point intro
I had my daughter listen to you when she was practicing for her speech class. You have such a calming voice and a way with your words.
Just hope she doesn't end 80 percent of her sentences with an upwards inflection making her sound like she's asking a question when in fact she's stating facts. It's super annoying.
Agree with you. Yes, Joshua, there's so much clarity in the way you speak.
Thank you, Joshua. I love these 4 tips. Had been in your course, I chose our living room first. And it took mé 4 weeks and I did not understand why until this video. It was because our living room is my office (with all my paper clutter in it), my bedroom, Kids play room and our family and TV room. :)
I was just thinking the exact same thing that you just stated. You really truly does! Have a good day I also follow Dawn The Minimal Mom!

Two big bags left the house today. I'm trying to remove one thing per day. It's making a big difference over time. Thank you for sharing.
Well done!
So liberating
Sarah L absolutely. If you just commit to getting rid of one thing a day it really does start to make you feel better each day.
Keep up the good work!
I like the idea of removing one item per day as that action makes the task not be overwhelmed by all the clutter. Thanks.
@@lourdespacheco3700 Thanks Lourdes - I'm so glad to have helped!
Sound advice.
Lot of folks getting rid of stuff. Stuck home, bored, or just more time to notice that hey, I haven't used this. Donation centers are overwhelmed.
Way to go! Good for you. You will find it so freeing and discover your life then has more room for new experiences.
@@missmayflower Thank you!
Thank you!
Sounds great 😀
I’m struggling with this one. I keep clothes as I hope to fit them again
The crochet stuff I bought as a hobby when I was in a wheelchair, part gone - still decluttering (and replaced with walking!)
The clothes that I desired to fit me one day, gone!
“Just because it’s on sale doesn’t mean I need to bring it home.” I’m committing this sentence to memory.
So true. It's still money you're spending.
Also "Just because it's free, doesn't mean I need it."
So hard but true.
Exactly. one time my in-law brought over a 3 foot choc candy bar w/ peppermint in it.....for Christmas. This season there is so much
food/ candy that most will have already if they are hosting the party. We just look at it and she said, "Well, it was on sale."
She also believed in buying many things for each grandchild, and each grown child. Eeks, after years, decade...most of the grown felt they had to
do the same, ....crazy, crazy waste of resources - our brain for trying to please her, our money, time, and more time to wrap/ hide these things for Christmas.
And then, when gifts were past out, it would take 40 mins to open all this junk. One little 7 yr girl rushed thru opening gifts, "Is there any more gifts for me?"
eek......I see this child once every other year at best.
The great thing about Minimalism is I buy less stuff and I save money !
I aim to buy high quality items and clothes that will last longer.
I want to declutter more because the clutter gets in the way of cleaning and makes it much more of a heavy ordeal to clean even a small room!
I like the way you speak. It’s like a well ordered minimalist room. There is space between your words for though process, contemplating what your saying. When people talk fast, often prattle on about nothing and incessantly or going off on lots of tangents it’s like a cluttered messy room that short circuits my brain.
Thanks I can totally relate 😂 while I was laughing I even snorted.
The accumulation of stuff is not the greatest thing you can do in your life. Love it!
I apply the principle used in manufacturing called 5S:
4. Standardize-now that everything is sorted, set in order and shined, it is time to implement that everywhere (in the house or workplace)
It will be a journey, but I can do it.🙏
I love how you speak. Makes me want to listen.
Please in a video with the camera walk us through your spaces. It would help me to visualize what minimal rooms look like.
Bravo Tomek👌
I used lockdown to do what seems like my final declutter. I have been minimalist for years and it's ongoing but being home for 15 weeks so far just made me think if we aren't using it now then when will we. I was careful with seasonal and hobby things though with them being on hold at the minute
Its fun to declutter actually..good timepass on a holiday.
I love reading the comments, and find them inspirational.❤
Great tips. I've started with the easier spots, saving my closet for last. It's a slow process.
I find the closet to be the easiest for me. I don’t have sentimental clothing.
Learning to not accumulate is so important, getting rid or replacing items after you buy same type of items!
Every time I need a little motivation I come back and watch this video. Thank you.
That’s it in a nutshell Josh.....so true.....it feels so good to be there.....so absolutely freeing.....this cleansing has changed my whole life
Thinking if you organise your stuff is the way to keep the home tidy is why i changed to minimalist.
Jennifer.
Loved your saying,
"I know my SPACE IS VALUABLE & I'd rather USE it than put STUFF in it..."
Thank You!
How TRUE!
Fabulous 4 steps! We are on our way to a clutter free home, thank you so much for helping us on our way!
The struggle really does pay off ✌
Thanks for the motivation

"What would ai use if I didn't have this?" is a great question for when I'm facing the items that other people can see are "random," but that I am still clinging onto.
I started with the bathroom and got rid of shampoo I didn't like, bar soap I never used but it was still wrapped and I gave it to a homeless shelter.

That's one that needs to be said, imo - don't replace consumerism with eating! Even eating out, luxurious locations, having a regularly bbc, etc. That's totally fine, and healthy, in a lot of ways, as a treat/event/party, but it's not a way of life either, nope.

You can do it.
