I beg to differ. The Squidward Torture Porn is only when a) Squidward deserves it, either by being negative, arrogant, or pretentious. b) It is caused by stupidity, not ignorance. Following that, the first STP is Good Neighbors. But then again that is just my opinion.
I Like Pizza :D Squidward got what he got in Reef Blowers ironically because he kicked that clam on Spongebob's front yard. This lead to Spongebob bothering him.

I thought it was odd how Patrick mentioned Christmas before the Christmas episode, though technically, the timeline doesn't have to line up exactly by when the episodes premiered. Notice how the Christmas episode is meant to be interpreted as a past story hashed out by Patchy the Pirate, meaning that it was something that happened in a previous year. The episode even starts out by Patchy saying "Let's see how SpongeBob and Patrick are gearing up for Christmas this year!" implying that they've been doing it for a few years already... Christmas Who is like a flashback to the first Winter with Sandy in Bikini Bottom, and I suppose the story is being told a few years afterward...? That's how I made sense of it back then. XP
wow. Interesting analysis. I, on the other hand, never knew that order the episodes were made/aired in. I knew older/newer, but not within a single season
wariolandgoldpiramid Christmas Who aired after Jellyfishing. I only know because I watched the premiers obsessively back then. x) I was just going off of that logic. The whole timeline of SpongeBob doesn't seem to make any sense by the date that they were released (as Pieguy says, continuity isn't a prime concern for the SpongeBob writers) but it does make it hard to think of the show as a series when there seems to be major inaccuracies. That one line from Patrick in Jellyfishing technically calls bluff to the whole premise of Christmas Who, at least in that release order.
***** Oh God, I love that scene. x3 I hate how I get this episode mixed up with Karate Island, because of the title. I like that scene, too, because of the use of the live action face for a very surreal moment, the kind that appeared a lot in early SpongeBob. My favorite part is SpongeBob telling Mr. Krabs about being paranoid about Sandy, and going, "She snuck up on me---In my own do-jo..." And the way he says it.
@@kartoonfanatic When I was a kid, I created a fire villain based on the volcano sauce drop (And maybe Py-Ro from Crash Bandicoot? IDR) who was basically a hammy, overly dramatic villain and a sadist. Of course, he had a different voice (kinda like Swayzak from Toonami now that I think about it, but without the effects.) And because of my tastes in men as a kid, he looked bishonen (Japanese term for a "pretty" looking boy.)

Sleepy Time is my favorite episode. I love all the gags and jokes, especially the Gary speaking so intelligently one. I remember watching it with my dad and laughing my ass off. It's currently my dad's favorite, too.
I like how the earlier seasons really gave Squidward the full range. He was easily annoyed a lot and could be really vain and snobbish, but there were times when he was actually a fairly nice guy, someone I could see myself being friends with. His relationship with Spongebob is one like the relationship between brothers. They annoy you to no end and you very rarely give them the time of day (or pretend not to) and there are many very rocky moments, but when you attack one, you attack them both. I think that's missing a bit from the later series.
Actually, the reason there is no sound in Reef Blower is because the recording they used was kinda screwed up so they used only animation, subtitles and previous music tracks.
My favorite part of Jellyfishing has always been when after Squidward falls off the cliff, he makes a big explosion for no reason other than to make us laugh. When I was really young, I saw that part and I collapsed with laughter!

12:35 here's a bonus fact: Did you know that Flats, the main antagonist in the episode,"The Bully" a Season 3 Episode, accualy first appeared on,"Sandy's Rocket" a Season 1 Episode?! Plus in the episode SpongeBob traps Flats. I guess that is the reason why Flats wanted to kick SpongeBob's butt.
I was a teenage Gary is one of my personal favorite episodes. But to be fair, it was one of the first episodes I saw and I’ve always been a horror fan (yes even at age 5 when I saw it) but I understand if you don’t like it. I have too much nostalgia for it. But SpongeBob is the best
Y'know, a lot of cartoons' first episodes are really kind of lame because they lack a budget and aren't sure what direction to go (I sight Ed, Edd, and Eddy and Fairly Odd Parents), but Spongebob started knocking it out of the park since day one! Now that is impressive.
I know your comment’s nearly 7 years old so you’ve likely changed your mind on this and/or have forgotten about this comment but I personal enjoyed FOP’s first two episode segments, especially Power Mad. I liked the creativity in that segment from the video game music to the concept of Timmy stopping his evil babysitter from killing him and his best friends within a video game. It created a pretty good foundation for how golden the rest of the show would. Until, y’know, when Sparky happened. (Though I don’t hate Sparky and actually sort of enjoyed him, even I can agree his inclusion marked the beginning of the show’s decline)
@@theluigifan1 I’m really not sure why I was talking shit on the FOP pilot. I liked it when I saw it and I like it now. I don’t even remember Ed, Ed, n’ Eddy’s pilot
Well to be fair spongebob made no fault in that because he was either being funny or minding his own business and squidward usually deserves it for doing something, but now it happens for no reason or spongebob know no morality
The Assassin Squirrel Doesn't mean it'll be good. It's not about the writers, it's about the studio. They're still going to push for ratings traps and terrible "get it out the door" storylines. I doubt Steve can repair that.
Michelle Lehto Seeing as how he created the show, though, you've gotta believe he's not just about the ratings traps and etc. The biggest ratings traps I remember were the "Patrick for President" episodes, which were Driven to Tears and Rule of Dumb, and the "Legends of Bikini Bottom" mini-series.
Okay, I'm glad you said we could have differences of opinion on this list. "Teenage Gary" is actually one of my favorite Season 1 eps. Of course, it pales in comparison to "Scaredy Pants" in many ways, but I found it the transformation bits interesting, and the ending gags on the fence (with Squidward still being tortured, poor guy) still get me every time. It only comes around a couple of times a year, so I watch it around that time. I gotta admit, even though I have the ep on DVD, I'd still rather wait for Halloween to roll around so I can watch this ep.
I'm so glad that he actually gave Squeaky Boots a positive review. That's one of my favorites from the first season, and it's hard to find many who think of it that fondly.
My top 10 favorite episodes 10. Karate choppers 9. Plankton 8 fun 7 employee of the month 5 scaredy pants 4 sb-129 3 help wanted 2 sleepy time 1 pizza delivery
I liked "I Was A Teenage Gary" it reminded me of cheesy 50s sci-fi movies. And since I was "I Was A Teenage Werewolf" on MST3k it does have a plot that can be argued is similar to the cartoon episode but that could just be me making excuses XD great lump of reviews keep it up!

It's just a stupid boulder! It's not just a boulder! It's a rock. A ro-o-o-o-o-ock!
Epic Llama slap it's in great shape
I don't know why but hen you said "Fun fact (literally)" I just burst out laughing.
I think a better fun fact for episode 1a is that the episode was finished in 1997 but didnt air until 1999
"You used me....FOR LAND DEVELOPMENT!
...that wasn't very nice :c"
Probably one of my favorite quotes from the show.
I like when SpongeBob starts being aggressive. That cute little evil laugh and the FACE he makes before he pops the volleyball... kinda like evil TOM 2!
"As you can see by this Pie Chart..." *I see what you did there*
The best quote from the episode Plankton! was "Shut your mouth you mediocre clarinet player!"

BRING IT AROUND TOWN!
Episode 3A: the starting point for the trend known as "Squidward torture porn".
I beg to differ. The Squidward Torture Porn is only when
a) Squidward deserves it, either by being negative, arrogant, or pretentious.
b) It is caused by stupidity, not ignorance.
Following that, the first STP is Good Neighbors. But then again that is just my opinion.
Yup I think good neighbors is the worst s4 ever then it's squidtastic voyage
No the squidward tourture porn start is reef blowers
I Like Pizza :D Squidward got what he got in Reef Blowers ironically because he kicked that clam on Spongebob's front yard. This lead to Spongebob bothering him.
A reef that blows
I loved your review on the first season of SpongeBob. You can't argue that it was a fanatastic start to our favorite sponge's fanatastic adventures! And, I'm glad you're going to check out the later seasons' episodes. Because, like me, you're hoping to find great episodes, whether it'd be Good, Meh, or ScumBob!

@@TheDiamondSlayer1 what
I thought it was odd how Patrick mentioned Christmas before the Christmas episode, though technically, the timeline doesn't have to line up exactly by when the episodes premiered.
*****
Oh God, I love that scene. x3 I hate how I get this episode mixed up with Karate Island, because of the title.
I like how you call your process of reviewing the episodes a "secret formula" and then go on to explain exactly what it is.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that lol
No, I noticed that, too.
I was about to comment the same thing.
YEE
WHAT IS IT THO
Sleepy Time is my favorite episode. I love all the gags and jokes, especially the Gary speaking so intelligently one. I remember watching it with my dad and laughing my ass off. It's currently my dad's favorite, too.
Crimson Ribbon sleepy time is mine to
Dream!Gary reminds me of Asriel from Undertale.
@@YuukiTakemoto1996 how’s that?
@@cajunking5987 His clothes and voice, plus him showing SpongeBob round his library reminds me of Asriel walking with Frisk.
I love when Plankton calls Squidward mediocre
"Never! NEVER!! AHAHAHAHAHA!!"
“Shut your mouth ya mediocre clarinet player!”
“Mediocre?”
"TECHNIQUE! TECHNIQUE!" *Probably* the best quote in the first season.
Actually, the reason there is no sound in Reef Blower is because the recording they used was kinda screwed up so they used only animation, subtitles and previous music tracks.
@Ewan Does a Thing I'd actually really like to know a little bit more about how that all works come to think of it.
It's because they didn't want to get the voice actors for another session. They wanted to save money.
My favorite episode of the season has to be Employee of The Month. That gag of the patty meat hitting the fan kills me everytime.
My favorite part of Jellyfishing has always been when after Squidward falls off the cliff, he makes a big explosion for no reason other than to make us laugh. When I was really young, I saw that part and I collapsed with laughter!
Same
Pickles is my favourite episode! I don't know why, but I love it (probably because i enjoy pickles).
I love pickles too! Danny thinks they're too sour.
You sound like you had a lot of fun making this video. All of the little Easter Eggs and references made me smile.
There is literally a meme every episode that alone goes to show how great SpongeBobs first couple of seasons were
You forgot that Patrick always cry when SpongeBob is leaving him in this season.
Game Boy: Darkness
Game Boy Advance: Advanced Darkness
Wait, "I was a teenage Garry" is a season 1 episode? I never would've guest...
Also 25:29 SPONGBOB IS 13!?
I highly doubt that seeing as Spongebob lives by himself and is trying to get his license.
mrprotoman145 The episode came out 1999, it says his birth year is 1986
Neutrino episode release dates arent dates in the episodes
i always thought he was in his early 20s or 30s since he was born in the 80s
XxAngiexXRPI The episode came out in mid 1999
The quote from the paper is actually "Squidwards shirt! I've always loved that shirt."
I've come for your pickle!
4:21 I would had that quote be "Ha-Ha, It's a giraffe!"

Honorable Mentions: Ripped Pants, Jellyfishing, Culture Shock, Sleepy Time, Hooky
Nice list
Thanks, I had a difficult time; I wasn't sure if Hooky and Ripped Pants should be in my top ten or not, so I made an honorable mention for them. As well as others that I really loved. XD.
Ok
+Book Lover My Favorite is Suds because it’s related to Fungus Among Us.
It should also be mentioned that Opposite Day aired exactly 2 years before 9/11.
I guess that is the reason why Flats wanted to kick SpongeBob's butt.
pieguyrulz was too good for this platform. hope he's doing well these days :)
Are sure those weren't, MEHPISODES!
I hate myself for that one.
Same here!
PIEGUYRULZ Both episodes "Arrgh" and "Rock Bottom" aired on my birthday; March 15, 2000. I was turning 3 on that day.
Spongebob annoys squidward with x object
But that didn't work with the squidward puppet thing
Well to be fair spongebob made no fault in that because he was either being funny or minding his own business and squidward usually deserves it for doing something, but now it happens for no reason or spongebob know no morality
In I Was A Teenage Gary I saw Snailbob's "haunting" of Squidward to be him crying out for help, he clearly didn't want to be a snail.
"Mr. Krabs vs the window" i never thought of that before! LOL
There will be another good season of spongebob, Stephen Hillenburg is coming back for season 10.
He is?!
Hyato Mizuki yeah
Squeeee wens season ten going to be realeased
The Assassin Squirrel Doesn't mean it'll be good.
It's not about the writers, it's about the studio. They're still going to push for ratings traps and terrible "get it out the door" storylines. I doubt Steve can repair that.
Michelle Lehto Seeing as how he created the show, though, you've gotta believe he's not just about the ratings traps and etc. The biggest ratings traps I remember were the "Patrick for President" episodes, which were Driven to Tears and Rule of Dumb, and the "Legends of Bikini Bottom" mini-series.
The "Squeaky Boots" Fun Fact should have been that the episode was based of "The Tell-Tale Heart" by Edgar Allan Poe.
+Sleepless Starless Both creepy and disturbing....how did I not notice this?
I called episodes like Reef Blower "Minisodes". The name is obvious. Feel free to refer to them as such :P
My favorite quote in Tea At The TreeDome is when Patrick put is his pinky up “they should call you SpongeBob FancyPants”!
"Spongebob the Aliens would like a word with you"
Oh god 10 years ago

Okay, I'm glad you said we could have differences of opinion on this list. "Teenage Gary" is actually one of my favorite Season 1 eps. Of course, it pales in comparison to "Scaredy Pants" in many ways, but I found it the transformation bits interesting, and the ending gags on the fence (with Squidward still being tortured, poor guy) still get me every time. It only comes around a couple of times a year, so I watch it around that time. I gotta admit, even though I have the ep on DVD, I'd still rather wait for Halloween to roll around so I can watch this ep.
i love the 'my leg' gag enough that i got a mod on l4d2 to play the audio when a pipebomb explodes
I'm so glad that he actually gave Squeaky Boots a positive review. That's one of my favorites from the first season, and it's hard to find many who think of it that fondly.
For the longest time I thought Bubble Bass's name was "Bubble Bath."
Me too! It wasn't until I went on Nick's site that I learned his actual name.
Wow I'm surprised the quote for tea in the treedome wasnt, "I NEED IT!!!!"
if i had to choose a good line from 7a Hall Monitor, i would choose Patrick screaming at the cops
That was truly hilarious!
Amok. He runs _amok._ It's a very obscure word. We say it all the time but very seldom see it written.
We see it written all the time but very seldom say it?
I don't know. I hear people say "run amok" all the time. I rarely ever see it written.

I remember watching the Ripped Pants episode so many times as a little kid and started cutting my underpants with scissors..........*sigh* Good times.
I thought the Pizza Delivery quote would've been "HOLD ON THERE JETHRO!" or Squidward's rant about 'The Pioneers'

The Paper isn't silent, iit's like Reef Blower with dialogue.
Honestly, the more I look at Spongebob in "Suds", the more or less the chance of it becoming a Scumbob Episode.
Fun Fact for Hooky, the footage of the live action fishermen are from an old tv show called Fishing with John.
The star of that show was on a Space Ghost episode. "Rio Ghosto."
