For me, that man could have been singing rock or metal without problems, his version of this song in London towards the end his screams sound half metal.
I am not black, but I know about soul because I grew up in an inner NYC neighborhood dancing to the Motown sound with my black neighbors. When I try to explain "soul" to people who aren't black, I tell them to listen to this song by Otis Redding. To me, this epitomizes soul. Listening to this song makes me roll my head side to side like Steven Wonder and get into the zone. Blacks have made the most incredible contribution to music, and I cannot imagine a world without it. Americans would still be crooning about "spooning by the silvery moon" songs were it not for the musical salvation our African Americans brought us. And even today they keep doing it - innovating and revolutionizing the world of music internationally most recently with their own homegrown Hip-Hop "rapping" How about that.

This song was around for many years before Otis, and he did make it his own. I'm pretty convinced though, it was hearing Sam Cooke's live version from the Live at the Copa album that compelled Otis to do this song.
I started out in music as a drummer, but when I first heard this song I had two thoughts; I never knew someone could sing like this and also, at that moment, I knew I wanted to be a singer for the rest of my music career. Otis was the man!
Otis Redding Sam Cooke Al Green a few of the greatest soul singers. Its never been the same those that have not heard these artists have no idea what talent and soul truly is.
I'm 13 and love soul music so Otis Redding is know as a legend especially Sam Cooke I like old soul music I been learning about different musicians when I was 11.
People just don't know. Otis was far ahead of his time. Can you picture Otis being around in say, 1978. He would have been #1 in the world in music. He was absolutely stunning, astounding, reverent, spectacular, outstanding, and prolific, amongst other things.
The whole damn world needs to try a LOT OF TENDERNESS cause HUMANITY HAS SURELY GOTTEN on the WRONG PATH and FORGOTTEN HOW TO LOVE and HONOR GOD and EACH OTHER

Otis was out of Macon, Georgia. Otis had a voice that kinda crawled up on you, such expression in there and he found that thing in Memphis. Another large-hearted guy who left us too soon. Something to be said about "the good die young!"
Booker T outdid himself with that soaring organ solo at the end, incredible! When I was in high school this is one of about only a dozen vinyl albums I owned and I used to play and played and played this song as well as others by Otis.
I love soul. There's just not enough of it to go around these days. This is one of the best recordings of "Try a Little Tenderness" out there. I also like The Commitments' version.

I discovered this in 1985 watching Pretty in Pink and have loved it ever since. Just magical, voice is unmatched.
Yes! Loved John Cryer’s dance interpretation of this song in Pretty in Pink! So memorable and funny. John Cryer is a master at physical comedy.

This song is perfection!!!! Otis Redding’s music in general - so much passion/soul.
Great !!

Absolute classic, none of this over produced and over dubbed crap, just a great voice and great backing band.
OTIS AND PERCY ARE THE TWO MAIN MEN FOR SINGING SOUL - THEY ARE WHAT SOUL MUSIC IS ALL ABOUT
One of the last songs he sang live in a TV in Cleveland Ohio the day before he and his band members perished.

Oh, she may be weary
Young girls they do get weary
Wearing that same old shaggy dress, yeah yeah
But when she gets weary
Try a little tenderness, yeah yeah
You know she's waiting
Just anticipating
For things that she'll never, never, never, never possess, yeah yeah
But while she's there waiting, without them
Try a little tenderness (that's all you gotta do)
It's not just sentimental, no, no, no
She has her grief and care, yeah yeah yeah
But the soft words, they are spoke so gentle, yeah
It makes it easier, easier to bear, yeah
You won't regret it, no, no
Some girls they don't forget it
Love is their only happiness, yeah
But it's all so easy
All you gotta do is try, try a little tenderness, yeah
All you gotta do is, man, hold her where you want her
Squeeze her, don't tease her, never leave her
Get to her, try, try
Just try a little tenderness, ooh yeah yeah yeah
You got to know how to love her, man, you'll be surprised, man
You've got to squeeze her, don't tease her, never leave
You've got to hold her and rub her softly
