Lyrics:
He's leaving (leavin)
On that midnight train to Georgia
(Leavin on a midnight train)
Said he's goin' back (Goin back to find)
To a simpler place and time
(Whenever he takes that ride, guess who's gonna be right by his side)
Oh yes he is

If you find a woman who says "I'd rather live in your world than without you in mine." hold on to her as best as you can.
Right on friend
No more such women who say these words.
Tell him that
I agree 100%. Remember, though, that the guy in this song is a loser. "...some day he'd be a star (a superstar, but he didn't get far)" Dude couldn't even drive back because he had to sell his car, hence the train. If this song was autobiographical, what a loss it would have been for all of us.
That being said, I LOVE this song.
Edwin Luciano 🙄 never mattered anyway - she felt pathetic for loving a looser and was recovered in pieces and places
My parents would play this song on the record player during our Saturday morning chores when I was a kid in the 70’s. We lived in New Jersey then. Now I live in Georgia. 😎

My dad loved Gladys Knight & the Pips when I was growing up, we played this at his funeral then afterwards we went for food and the same track started playing as we all sat down, pure coincidence but I'm taking it as a sign. A beautiful sign.

Gladys is the best, trust me when I ask you to to listen to Rainy Night in Georgia by Brook Benton. You will fall in love with this song too, no doubt 💞
This is one of those rare songs where EVERYTHING absolutely EVERYTHING is perfect synched up and in harmony. The vocals, the back up, the instrumentals, the composition, the lyrics. Everything does its job perfectly. Gorgeous.
The version of the song is a masterpiece of the art of the sound mixer . This version is the official version and the sounds are perfectly mixed. Other versions recorded at live concerts, while they are good , they are way inferior to this official version. I.M.O.
This song gives goose bumps. It gets better and better as it progresses. Gladys killed it. You cant jam this on low volume. This is soul music for the whole house on a Sunday making brunch. Kids asking who is this and dancing along.

RIP Jim Weatherly, (Feb, 4 2021) songwriter of this amazing song, which originally was “Midnight Plane to Houston”.... thanks for the songs Jim!
I found the story of the inspiration for the song noteworthy: Jim Weatherly, a star QB at the Univ. of Mississippi, had a flag football league teammate in LA that he had become good friends with, actor Lee Majors, well before the Six Million Dollar Man. He called him one night, and his new girlfriend answered the phone, they had already met a few times so they chatted for a minute, and a not-yet-famous Farrah Fawcett said she was busy packing her clothes to take "the midnight plane to Houston". Jim said bells went off in his head as he thought "That sounds like a song title", so as soon as he hung-up the phone he grabbed his guitar and was finished writing and composing the song within 30-45 minutes.
Great information !! Thanks for posting that !!@
Let’s be real, midnight plane to Houston? Now that was never gonna fly😂!

God I wish modern singers would have this much depth and passion in their voice as Gladys does in this song. Real music evocaing real emotions.
I agree and that is the reason music from the 60’s and 70’s will never be forgotten.
It does but it's no longer about the words, it's about depth. I mean rap was basically people talking to the beat.
But now we have rappers talking about their pain or trying to push genres to their limits.
If you need some music to check out I suggest: Thundercat, Denzel Curry, Break bot as some starters.
Well thats one of the reasons it's called soul music...just listen to modern soul music...but its still gonna be hard to match the Empress of Soul.
For me the duet of Alicia Keys and John Mayer had soooo much emotion in it...John Mayer sings with such emotion, but its Alicia who kills it in that duet
Yes Real good Today Not so real, to much tattoos!

For those of you young people who do not understand why grown people talk so much about the old school. It's all about the time when that song was out. Some of you may like the sound but some of us have the experiences as well during that time. So don't be surprised if you see a uncle or aunt just waving their hands with their eyes close, just remembering the good ole days.
Amen. This brings back so much more than the memory of this song. And anyone can relate to the lyrics. Then there's the joy of just her pure singing talent. It's wonderful on so many levels.
Tears in my eyes

I’m 21, and I grew up listening to old school, and it brings back so many nice memories with my Aunt that passed back in 2016. It’s sentimental, wayyy better than the music being made now, and just so artistic in the sense you can feel the emotion more so in my opinion, in this sort of music. It’s captured in an authentic and stunning way you can’t help but you smile and listen
I'm 26 and feel like I was born in the wrong era. I love motown and soul music like Gladys Knight, Aretha Franklin, Sam Cooke, The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, etc. You don't find that kind of soulful songs these days it's rare.
Having been born in 1948, I along with millions of people listened to the beat and the lyrics ... what a concept ... I am so grateful for the artist's of my time to be able to deliver a message with every song .... The combination of lyrics to listen and understand brought a deeper meaning .... Thank you to everyone who shared their story and message .....
Born in 67 and still loving it ❤
GLADYS KNIGHT SHES ONE OF THE LAST 70S ERA SINGERS AND STILL GOING STRONG GOD BLESS HER AND KEEP HER SAFE AND HEALTHY AMEN
The bass line in this song is superb.
Richard Thorpe Bob Babbitt played bass on this song, and said it’s the only one of hundreds he recorded that won a Grammy. He was very proud of it.
Sublime, truly.
