Omega Chronostop - an undervalued single pusher chronograph?

- Опубліковано 16 жов 2024
- In todays video we talk about one of Omegas least remembered and most misunderstood watches: The Chronostop.
A total of 185,000 units were produced, and yet, it has become increasingly difficult to lay hands on a piece in NOS condition.
Today we talk about 5 main topics: its function, history, movement, the design & at least share some buying tips to get your prefect single pusher chronograph.

One of these days i was at my grandparents house and i came across a cardboard box in wish, along with some low quality quartz pieces, there was a rough treated, but lovely Chronostop. I didn't know much about watches at the time, but i really loved the watch. I did some research and months later, with a powerfull ally (my grandmother) we secretly stole the watch. I had the watch serviced (the chrono function wasn't working so well) and found an add for a Timex that was coupled with a Omega mesh bracelet, i immediatly bought it. The watch really became together with the mesh bracelet and the super classy burgundy dial.
At the time i got the watch serviced and in a pretty box, i gifted the watch back to my grandfather and he loved it. Saddly, 3 months later my grandfather passed away. My grandmother recently gifted me the watch and i can't stop wearing it for all the good reasons and memories 🙂
What a fantastic story! Thank you so much for sharing it with us. A watch can transport a variety of memories and emotions depending on the individual's experiences and personal connection to the watch! This is what vintage watches are all about, especially this sense of tradition and continuity if the watch has been passed down through generations!
My father recently gifted me his chronostop that he purchased in Zurich in 1968. It's in good condition but I am going to have it serviced since it has not been worn in probably 45 years. I really appreciate the information you have presented here. I will put it on a grey leather strap too, it looks amazing.
Congrats! It’s the perfect gift.
Before you have it opened try to use it for a few days. Stay well!
I own the white dial date version and absolutely love it. (Was my grandfathers) had it restored recently.
I already see it on your Instagram profile. Such a beaut! And as a gift from your grandfather it might’ve a personal history behind.
I recently discovered the Chronostop and really like the piece...missed out on a fairly good deal but will try to buy one soon, great design! Thanks for the video..
Glad you enjoyed the video. We hope you’ll find the perfect piece in future 🙏✌️
Great video, love the melody very fitting for such beautiful watch. Thank you.
Much thanks! Indeed, Debussy is a great melody for vintage watches :)
Great video and a great watch!!! I was very lucky and i found a NOS Chronostop from an old jewlwry store last winter!
Thanks twice! Congratulations, we think you’ll enjoy this piece for many many years :)
Great vidéo. I'm actually looking for one. If i may, the "driver" with reference num. 145.010 uses a cal. 865, not a 920. That's the "driver" reference 146.010 (with a date, wich the "6" stand for in the référence number) wich uses a cal. 920.
Thanks for your feedback, I’ll check it! We actually have the chronostop listed on our website. Check the link in the video description:)
That was rather informative, thank you. Such an appealing design. Sporty and elegant all at once. I'm also quite interested in the Omega Dynamic. Have you considered profiling one of those? I'd like to hear your detailed assessment. Cheers
Cool piece! It’s possible that I come across this piece in future
Great video! Loved learning about this watch. One suggestion (this is the first video I watch of yours) to add very light background music throughout the video! Very faintly in the background. Nonetheless I learned a lot!
Hey there , thanks for your kind feedback! We’re glad you learned something new :-) unfortunately we’re no fans of ambient music.
I got mine with a fresh service from the 13. 7.2022 for 760€ 👍🏼 love it
What a bargain!! Huge congrats
@Goldammer Vintage Watches Thankyou very much soo glad after I sold my geneve dynamic date blue silver dial
Hey I have the 145.010 Driver ,its an amazing watch and actually very convenient while driving . Would you know the approx value of this piece today?
Hey, unfortunately it’s not possible to give you any estimates about your piece. Are all parts original, condition etc etc. The best way is to research yourself. Just compare your reference with pieces for example on websites like chrono24 to find the approx value.
This was the first decent watch I bought myself way back in 1975, when an 865 on a leather strap (with deployant) sold for £69. All these years later, I'm looking for another one...on the Mesh Bracelet this time :)
Good luck for your hunt! It looks so cool on the mesh!!! Do you already own that piece from 75?
@@GoldammerVintageWatches Unfortunately not. I've always been a trader not a hoarder, but that first Chronostop signalled the start of my watch journey.
How about a review on Omega's other budget sportster, the 80's Quartz "Calypso" Dive? And can I say, your videography is superb!
That's right. You also have to be able to part with things. But watches that you associate with certain moments in your life are very difficult for me. Thank you for your feedback, unfortunately we can only make videos of watches we have in stock. Maybe we can find a good Calypso in future, but we are not really fans of diving watches. But what is not, can still be ;)
@@GoldammerVintageWatches Finished negotiating for a '67 Chronostop with Mesh a few hours ago! From a trusted pre-owned dealer I've bought from twice before. Going back to my horological roots so to speak :)
Your UA-cam channel is an absolute gem. I've subscribed & look forward to viewing all your previous (& future) content.
Very informative thank you
You’re welcome ☺️
I recently find one at my old uncle house... still works
Nice!!
There is one more item common on all Chronostops, the bracelet whether steel or leather ALL had a long stainless steel deployant clasp and not a buckle. I know because I have one.
Thanks for sharing!
Really coooooool watch 👍
Absolutely agree 🫶🙌
@@GoldammerVintageWatches Thanks to your video, I just purchased a Chronostop in NOS condition with original strap. Thanks!
You’re welcome! Huge congrats to your new family member
I love this piece! I have one myself, the same model you present along with the original mesh band. I am considering selling it to upgrade to a vintage American timepiece, so if there are any suitors for an exquisite example of this timepiece with the original band, hmu!
Good luck ! Which timepiece are you looking for?
@@GoldammerVintageWatches Thanks! I am between a Bulova Accutron Spaceview with an alpha case (which would have a similar spacey aesthetic to this Omega to be honest), a Benrus Ultra Deep, or even a Waltham trench watch. I really am just waiting for a good deal on a nice example on any one of these that pops up haha
Good choice ;-) keep your eyes wide open and good luck!!
What kind of doctor or engineer use mechanical watch in his profession? Maybe a hipster one.
Not nowadays, back in the days it was standard ;-)
I am an architect and a cyclist and I do.
I have the "gradué pour 15 pulsations" in order to measure your heart rhythm. It´s a matter of choices, that´s all.
Of course nowadays I have and use a Garmin Vivoactive for sports. Stay well!
Amazing NOS condition for the watch in the video! But shame on you for plagiarising Dan Henry's three year old article on the Chronostop word for word!..try to come up with some of your own words and research next time!?
Hey there, you’re right that his article was part on my research. I agree with you that parts are copied , but i tried to change the sentence construction. To be honest, my english is not the best and to write a script is very difficult for me. I definitely have to agree with you and I will work on using my own words even more in the future.
@@GoldammerVintageWatches You may have your words translated. Ustedes pueden hacer traducir su artículo en vez de robar el de otro y justificarse con "part of my research". Es demostrar una baja condición humana. Cordialmente.
