E Meyer true, but he could’ve chose to stay behind the scenes, or retire and collect royalties but instead, he decided to stay in the spotlight of his show, most shows switch hosts fequently throughout the years.
I’m in the market for either a 2018 S Class V8 or 2017 BMW 7 series V8 and I’ve seen a handful of cars less than 15,000 miles below $80,000 in the SoCal area. Very affordable than $130,000!thats for sure.
I’ve owned a 2008 s550, 2013 s63 amg, 2014 s550, and currently own a 2018 s560, nothing like this Benz!! Best ever. The 2018 bmw 750i m sport I owned was amazing too! The tech! The growl! And the sporty/comfort u get is amazing! Love the power, looks, and tech!
this is so nostalgic, as a little car nut at like 10 years old, I would always cherish the moments when this show would come on TV on PBS on the weekends
+ Jeremiah Anthony lil dakota needs to shut the hell up. And no, this car is not better than a maybach (which its based off the S), Rolls royce phantom or any bentley.
my cousin just upgraded to this from an '07 E-class and jesus christ these videos do it no justice. that thing is a beast! it pretty much is a maybach minus the few hundred thousand dollars.
This is the car that made me love Mercedes. The design is on point inside and out. All of the old Mercedes, S, C, E and everything else all looked ugly. This marks a turn in Mercedes styling. Epic car. The ultimate daily driver.
grabir01 people who usually buy a car like that are making more than you and I make anyways, so costs to them are nothing. They are less than 1% of the population of people who can drive this car.
Monsieur Africain I agree because the only person I know who had an S550 was my boss and he didn't need to worry about it braking down because he wasn't buying it, he was leasing it which means he changes cars evry like 2 or 3 years, because he's that rich. People usually don't buy these cars they lease them.
You Lexus fan boys can stay pressed. Mercedes and Lexus are both good cars, but you just need to accept that fact that the S class is just in a different class from the LS. Yeah, Mercedes had a time where they had issues with quality (While partnered with Chrysler might I add...) But let's not forget that Lexus also had a sketchy time during their life as far as quality goes. (Or are we going to forget when Lexus/Toyotas were randomly accelerating all over the place?) Just accept the fact that Mercedes-Benz makes good cars just as well as Toyota... The S class just happens to be... well, the best. (As any review will prove.)
By far Mercedes quality exceeds Toyota/Lexus in luxury, durability and comfortability...I understand the roads are so good in US that probably you cant test a car to its limits, so any car looks good to you... but what about a safari testing ?!
Regarding reliability this S-series has turned out to be a lemon, especially in comparison to the older W221 which was built to last. Tested the Maybach with my wife and we loved the interior but the electronics have turned out to be a big issue. At this price range one would expect to have Lexus-like reliability.
I had a Lexus LS 350...pretty much a glorified version of my wife's Camry. The premium Japanese brands (Lexus, Infiniti, Acura) are just pimped out versions of their cheaper cousins. Mercedes Benzes are the real deal...no down market platforms.
The Maybach didn't fail because it was little and unknown. It failed because once it was released, the tech was quite out of date already, as well as other features.
I have that car and the new price was actually around 150.000 Euro (170.000 Dollars). In 2020 I found a 2017-model for 56.000 Euro, the last V8 in the 500/550. Since Corona, the prices went up for used cars, so even 2 years later it still costs 56.000-64.000 Euro. In 2 years I have the option to buy it for 28.000 and I think I will do.
I really love the Mercedes S-Class but I can’t decide between this, the Genesis G90 and the LS500! Reliability out of the question, which has better quality, luxury, and style!
As good as this car is, I don't think it's good enough to compete with Bentley and Rolls Royce. 7 series will be redesigned soon and it will be just as good as this S class. A8 already caught up, especially in performance the v8 in A8 does 0-60 in 4.2 seconds. That's almost as fast as S63.
Are you talking about Land Rover? Because the NEWER Mercedes are much more reliable than they're said to be. If you're talking about the early 2000's, than I would agree with you, but these days they're much more reliable. I'd be happy to provide you with links.
Dion.. It takes a car 8-10 years of use before you can know if it is reliable . With Mercedes, most of the time you know it is not reliable in 6 months or less.. But typically it takes years to know.
Lemme see here. A relative of mine drives a '99 S550 with barely a hitch. Don't make assumptions. Don't get me wrong, I drive a Lexus myself. So let's see here: 15 years of use without a hitch... I think at the very least that's good with me. And then there are the Consumer Reports reviews, J.D. Power ratings, etc.
As a current owner of a MB S-Class..I would STRONGLY recommend anyone stay away from them. Horrible reliability. Horrible electronics. Frequent repairs. And the dealerships treat you like garbage..even though you pay them outrageous amounts for repairs. My next car will be what Consumer Reports calls the best built luxury car in the world -a Lexus LS. All my friends have left MB & BMW for Lexus and they all love their cars. And when they go into the dealerships for oil changes (because they rarely have repair issues) they have a new free loaner LS car waiting for them..along with free Starbucks coffee, pastries, and other luxuries my MB dealership wouldn't dream of giving me. Just google "mercedes benz lemon law" too see how many owners like myself are sick of this brands problems. When you pay this much money for a vehicle..you shouldn't be having all these electronics, repairs and reliability issues. Any other product that would have all these issues would be called junk..but just because this product has a silver star on it's hood people ignore this or don't know it until it's too late and they purchase it. Never again..this will be my last MB product.
Even with the advanced tech, these vehicles will never be built to the standard of quality that made them famous in the 90's. Just as each updated variation gains gadgets and toys, it forsakes the substantial, bold, teutonic qualities that characterise a Mercedes. I sat in one of these at the dealership while my CLK55 was being serviced, and just shook my head at how cheaply these cars look (and feel) in comparison to the mafia-mobiles of old.
I would never buy a new one. I'm actually looking at a pre-owned sub 100k mile S550 for almost 10% of the original MSRP. Let someone else loose their ass on depreciation. I will buy a clean example and I have a good independent european mechanic to maintain it cheaper than the dealership.
Bought my S500 AMG SP.. Cost new was over 100k.. Sold it 10 years later with only 67,000 miles for 7000 bucks. No one wanted it. Had the same Year Lexus LS430 with over 100k miles on it and got 10,000 for it !! Sorry I got rid of the LS430.. Happy I got rid of the AMG S500.. These new Mercs are just not reliable !!!
I bet your Benz was an late 90s early 2000 model wasn't it? Mercedes lost their way back then because of Lexus, but they are back this new S is head and shoulders above anything it competes with.
It was a 2001. Last Mercedes for me.. Lexus is far better. When I would take my 2001 to Mercedes, I would hear others in the waiting room with 2012 S Class also complaining. So.. If Mercedes has re found its way, it has happened in the past 6 months.. Not Likely.. as it takes 10 years to know if you are making good cars..
I owned a S500 with the AMG Sport package. Sure did dumbass.. As a matter of fact, you can call Sandor "Owner" of StarTech Mercedes Denver. Call him.. Ask him about Grady Howell 2001 S500 AMG. Tell him you are interested in buying the car and if he can email you the maintenance records.. O yea.. Do not forget to tell him you are a Dumbass.. :)
You sure have a lot of excuses for these Crappy cars. If you want to see how the new Mercs are doing, simply read Edmuds or Epinions on them and see that things at mercedes have not changed , In fact they are worse.
what i'm hearing is that these new s-classes are junk !! you spend all that money and something go's wrong like everyday on them. i don't get it, how come when somebody does a review on these cars they don't mention anything about breaking down and mechanical problems they have?
These new Mercedes cars are money pits !! If you inherit a lot of money and can buy 2 Mercs with AAA. That way.. You will have a Car to drive when the other is in the shop. And Triple AAA can cover the tow and your trip home to get your other car. Or,, Just buy a Lexus and a spare Battery.. Lexus cars eat Batteries. About every 3-4 years you have to replace your battery on those Lexus cars..
My LS430 did not have Air suspension. My Merc did.. The rear nitro shocks went bad.. No one could fix them properly.. It was the same time the closing aid started to have problems. MB of Littleton flew Mercedes Engineers in to have a look, they too could not fix the problem on the closing aid. They did fix the rear suspension problem at a cost of several thousand dollars. The Closing AID was never fixed. All the while we drove the Lexus with no problems ever.. Jay.. If you want a used Mercedes S class.. Knock yourself out dude.. I am only giving fair warning to others that might consider buying one. If you have your mind set on buying one, knock yourself out. Just make sure you have a ton of cash handy for the repairs to keep it going..
Styling so much better than the new one.
new cars seem to look the same...
John has been MotorWeek's HOST for over 35 years, thats loyalty! ✅
He created the show.
One of the best reporters
E Meyer true, but he could’ve chose to stay behind the scenes, or retire and collect royalties but instead, he decided to stay in the spotlight of his show, most shows switch hosts fequently throughout the years.
Yes he's a great host and narrator for the road tests from the A220 to this car
I agree about the Loyalty but when you love a job like he does you never work a day in your life
22mpg for 447hp, top notch interior, design, quality.. is amazing.
Moral of this review: A fantastic car to buy at a bargain on the used-car market.
I’m in the market for either a 2018 S Class V8 or 2017 BMW 7 series V8 and I’ve seen a handful of cars less than 15,000 miles below $80,000 in the SoCal area. Very affordable than $130,000!thats for sure.

He had me at " There's Luxury, and there's Ultra-Luxury".
The best car in the World
Probably not
+ Zack Kennedy shut the hell up
+ Jeremiah Anthony lil dakota needs to shut the hell up.
And no, this car is not better than a maybach (which its based off the S), Rolls royce phantom or any bentley.
Fuck u zack kennedy dis is da best car n da world
My M5 will make this car shits itself.
I'm actually buying one in a couple of days. a 2016 S63 Blue exterior and white/black interior with 25,000 miles.
Price?
Did you get it ?
How is it holding up now
I actually prefer this model of S-Class to the new one
Same here.
same, If the W140 S Class never existed or wasn't as good like it is, the W222 would be the best S Class ever
I couldn't agree more. This model looks more elegant and aggressive than the new models. The new ones looks like Korean machines not German
This S-Class has more appearance and class than the new models.
I bought a 2008 S-class for $10k and it feels so good... but it comes with a massive downside, and that is people assume you are rich
my cousin just upgraded to this from an '07 E-class and jesus christ these videos do it no justice. that thing is a beast! it pretty much is a maybach minus the few hundred thousand dollars.
This is the car that made me love Mercedes. The design is on point inside and out. All of the old Mercedes, S, C, E and everything else all looked ugly. This marks a turn in Mercedes styling. Epic car. The ultimate daily driver.
Even the 2000 S Class? I think that one was honestly a better looking sedan, just horrible to maintain
The car on your picture is ugly, old benzos are gorgeous
It is the best automobile in the world. After all Mercedes-Benz invented the automobile.
The most unreliable car in the world ya mean.. You obviously have never owned a new Merc.
grabir01 it's the best until you have to fix it lol
grabir01 people who usually buy a car like that are making more than you and I make anyways, so costs to them are nothing.
People usually don't buy these cars they lease them.
juan tafoya true absolutely
the king of cars
If you don’t own this machine, you have a mode of transportation that gets you from point A to B. This is an Auto mobile NOT a mode of transportation.
it would be hard for me to drive this car at night, because I would just stare at the dash
Can't believe it's ten years old
Amazing car.
yeah is true Mercedes Benz is the best evaaa

$122.000 İts very cheap
in TURKEY : $346.000 .... Because of 171% of Turkish taxes
+Den ProHD Deeeeeeeeamn......would it be cheaper to buy it overseas and ship it in?
+Den ProHD lol Turkish taxes? still so cheap. The tax in Vietnam will be 300% man.
In Brazil a 2018 S63Amg costs 1 milion reais. 1 dólar = 4 reais.
@@TrollingWithTheTruth They would still tax it the same iirc
@@dr.lyleevans6915 Yep, but that's common sense, which the person you replied to doesn't really have.

C class is down market
Frank Assnot CLA class too
Japanese cars are well built and reliable... German cars are NOT! Lexus is better in every way... You obviously know nothing about cars.
The Maybach didn't fail because it was little and unknown. It failed because once it was released, the tech was quite out of date already, as well as other features.
S63 AMG 4MATIC please.

I took my s550 to the track and ran 12.8 quarter and 4.5 0-60
I'd love to take this car back to 1982 and have John Davis compare it to the Cadillac Cimmeron.
this car is the real monster
I love this car
Beautiful Car !
THE best or nothing.
David Topchiev You know what else is a myth? Obama giving a damn.
Mercedes Benz: The Best, so get over it!
Carson Schalk I'll walk...
Did you say "Bermister" audio?
OMG!!!!
..a guy I've never heard of.
The ride of the S 550 2015 4Matic of this car is beyond imagination. I am waiting impatiently to receive my custom made one in September 2015
I really love the Mercedes S-Class but I can’t decide between this, the Genesis G90 and the LS500! Reliability out of the question, which has better quality, luxury, and style!
The steering wheel looks like it’s smiling 🤠
I am so in love ❤️❤️❤️❤️
this is what we get after 150 years of cars not so bad
John is big Mercedes Fan
Damn, not bad, compared to the K900 this is fractionally better but for 2x the price. Maybe more. And i work for Mercedes lol
Dat interior. Wouldn't go for those vivid lights but if you can give me a cool white I'd love that. Also the £100k to buy it plz.
FROOB202 The interior lights are customizable :D
I disliked the LCD screen for gauges when this was new, but sheesh the new S class is hideous inside compared to this beauty.
When electronics become mad, good luck on that nightmare
2024 😮
3:07 Aaron Judge ?
In 2037 we will look at this car as we look at the 1994 s500.....that's fucking crazy
Any word on why there was smoke coming out of the tail pipes at 4:55?
that is condensation coming out of the exhaust that means the car is burning good and clean and it probably was cold outside
When it goes to 25k im getting one
The Steppenwolf reference!
this beats any 2014 porsche
The e guitar squeaking in the back ground doesn’t appeal
That's moving for the size of that car
Lexus, Infinty and Acura could never
YES YOU ARE RIGHT IT IS THE BEST OF THE BEST CARS...i believe no one would argue that unless he/she a drama queen
Beautiful looking car, I would buy one I just need to win the lottery. LOL 😂
1:14 - my ass is already a one-of-a-kind piece.
No doubt, german luxury cars are the best. Keep your lexuses and cadillacs.
Nope! Lexus is so much better built and way more reliable. I still like Mercedes tho...
Even in Japan wealthy people prefer Mercedes over Lexus.
Am I the only one that skips to the track part 😂
A great looking car that is Shit Reliable.. It will spend more time in the shop than on the road !!

I bet reliable to you is nothing ever going wrong, ever. You are the type of person who doesn't take care of their car, to you a car is disposable.
This is the best I can do
S class is best in my book. Not up there with rolls. But defiantly better then the Bentley continental. Not as good as the mulsanne tho.

Grow up? Grow a Brain .. Obviously you do not own one.. I hope you do someday.. You deserve it !! lol
Mercedes (like BMW & Audi) hold their value so poorly in 15 years you'll see one for $8999 at a used car lot.
123k for a car??😆😆
And thats still cheap compared to other places.
Definitely not worth running the quarter mile in it’s a mammoth.
i hate that god damn steering wheel
The design
Jeremiah Anthony yeah it looks like a crown vic steering wheel
They should've kept the old one but I will say this the material they used is extraordinary
Jeremiah Anthony the w221's wasnt great either but better than the new one. i sat in a 2015 s550 for about 15 minutes it does feel nice and solid
I sat in one 2 this is my favorite car. Bmw gonna try and copy this
When I think of Mercedes Benz I don't think luxury anymore. I think Chrysler even though I shouldn't. Can't help it.
armenian and russian car
Too bad they can't make their cars RELIABLE like lexus
true.. IF they do.. I would consider paying the extra money needed to buy another Merc.. Until then.. Forget it !!
They are reliable
what i'm hearing is that these new s-classes are junk !! you spend all that money and something go's wrong like everyday on them. i don't get it, how come when somebody does a review on these cars they don't mention anything about breaking down and mechanical problems they have?
David Topchiev lol sorry to hear that. i love s-classes though. what are you gonna get this summer? i really want the 2015 s600.
David Topchiev My 1982 300SD says hello :)
If you don't want to spend your money on Mercedes and BMW, Nissan is the answer
LOL!
Why does this Mercedes look like Hyundai Genesis.
Because the new Genesis was debuted before the new Mercedes. Hahha..
hnnotyy It doesn't look like a Genesis...at all! BS.
That's like calling the new Charger a Dart!
Kevin Metz You Sir are blind get them eyes checked then.
hnnotyy Why the insults? Is this how you treat people in reality?

Lmao what's wrong with the narrator? He high or something?
