Just got the notification that my Malibu is in the mailbox! Once I signed up for in stock notifications for the Malibu I got one on the next stocking pretty easily.
That is a must have knife!!! Reverse Tanto! So Slick and the action on that knife is stellar!!! My 2020 is the Para 2 Tanto black out i got a week ago. Blade HQ had them back in stock. So Slick!
I got a Malibu (reverse Tanto) about 4 months ago. Absolutely love this knife the button action, flipper tab, with the super smooth action makes it so enjoyable to play with. I pretty much enjoy everything this knife is. I used it to open letters and open packages. 2 weeks ago I used it to cut open 4 USB thumb drives out of their packaging. I noticed the action was off and makes a funny grind like noise. Blade plays up and down now. So irritating basically lost all the action. It still flips and locks but the up and down play now bothers me not sure if it’s the stop bar or push button. I truly believe that this knife should hold up to that task. I have emailed support at Pro-Tech but not hopeful in hearing back anytime soon. I did send a video of the knife issue. Just wondering if there are any other people actually using this knife? If so have you experienced any issues? Still love this knife but going to be bummed if I can’t get it fixed or even worse this knife just can’t hold up to use.
I have the stone washed reverse tanto and the all black DLC Wharncliffe. I freaking love both of them. There is a reason why it's the knife of the year. Great Vid!!
I'm split between the two blade styles. I am digging the stonewash though over the satin. Another great review Bryan. The cork was good for this video, maybe not so much for regular videos though.
Finally got mine in the blue tanto just like this, sooo good. Worth the wait, imo the tanto is better because the blades spine weight lends to it being more fidgety. The wharny does look cool too though. Funny they released this huge batch April 1, I wonder how many people thought it was a joke.
Glad I was able to pick one up last week. Black RT. Amazing quality like you said and is becoming one of my favorites.. hoping to snag a blue wharn as well.
I really wish that at least one Canadian retailer would sell the Malibu since I've already lost 2 of them to CBSA even though we can buy knives like this here
looking forward to getting a reverse tanto in blue at some point! i’d like to see a comparison between the bugout and the malibu, love the cork background as well!
Serious question-does anyone know of any retailers that have the Malibu in stock, especially the versions that aren’t black? Because I can’t find this anywhere.
Nope! They sell out within seconds of dropping. I've managed to get one in my cart on two different occasions and by the time I logged into my account, they were gone.
Are the blades not virtually identical as far as the cutting edge is concerned? It looks to me like the 'warnnie' is just a reverse tanto blade with more steel cut off above the tip, but the edge looks the same. The extra steel out at the edge of the blade may also be way the new one is more drop shut. Extra mass, all the way out at the end of the lever.
I’m not gonna claim all the credit for this, but a few years back, I bought a half breed, cause I’m in California. I didn’t care for the ultra long pocket clip either, so I called Protech, and they sent me the smaller clip, I’m not sure if they even made me pay for it, maybe five bucks if so. they’re not an exact match, there is a little gap left over when you go from the large clip mounting point to the smaller clip, and they let me know that, I don’t really care so I went with it, my half breed still has it on.. this would’ve been around 2016 if memory serves, and it doesn’t, but a little after that, the Malibu came out, drilled for the smaller pocket clip, even bigger handle than a half breed. On second thought, I will take full credit for that, the reason the Malibu has the smaller pocket clip is thanks to me, you’re welcome, world :-)
Man my local knife shop has had a couple sitting on the shelf for months. Might have to pick one up if it’s better than the mordax. Drop soured me on protech. They kept blaming the factory for several missed ship dates.
That shop is probably the only shop in the world that has ever had any sit for more than a couple hours. You could easily flip them for a nice little profit overnight.
@@jagpilotohio they are in a pretty crappy location. Seen many stores in that shopping center close. But if corse I go to get one and they are all gone. Just my luck.
Anyone else get their Malibu come dull as a butter knife out of the box? Mine was ripping paper when I tested it, and another owner said they were able to literally run it across their palm without cutting themselves. Everything else about the knife seems great, but whoever was responsible for the edge just gave it a couple lazy passes over a belt sander and said, "Meh, good enough. I've got lots of these to get through." Sure, it can be fixed with a little time on the sharpening stones, but I don't expect to have to do that straight away on a $200 knife.
I’m getting my blue reverse tanto today. I’m curious to see if it will dethrone my mordax. My mordax is definitely more drop shutty than my hoback rhino which the rhino is smooth too. Anyways I’m late to the video but thanks for the content my man 🤙
I’m hoping to find a Malibu soon! This would be my first major knife. Im in a state that doesn’t allow auto. If you have any leads, please let me know where to find one 🤔 😂

I've done videos about the Mordax. Everyone asks for that comparison, but they are in no way at all similar other than being button locks made by Protech.

I own both, I do prefer the wharnecliffe over the reverse tanto. Great review, looking forward to seeing more of these knives in future videos.
Trying to decide between the two why do you prefer the cliff over tanto?
I want the blue reverse tanto so bad.
Im looking for a reverse tanto for sale. Been looking 6 months now so if you know where one is for sale let me know, ps I am in Australia.
I really want to try a button lock and the more you review it, the more I think a blue reverse tanto might be the one. Happy Life Day.
I kind of want to try one of these, but not enough to do what it takes to actually get one.
Agree, the Wharny has a more consistent line/silhouette. With the same handle, the Tanto is not a good flow/match, seems abrupt, interrupted.
