I was 8 years old and fell in love with Disco music in the early summer of 1974. A great but distressing time in history.

Got married in the summer of '74 and am still married to her. Started my junior year of college in the fall. I was a music major and played in any kind of group I could including a few orchestra gigs. I don't remember a lot of tv even though we had one as I went to school in the day time and played in bands in the night. Bought my first car, a 64 ford falcon for $150. The following year I bought a brand new car as I was making a lot of money by then playing in a rock band. Good stuff Johnnyboy!

Oh 1974 what a year for me. Best year of my life. I was twenty years old young and free. Had a great job and was driving a 1970 Roadrunner with nothing but time on my hands. How fast the years have passed but I will never forget 1974.

I graduated in '74. it was probably one of if not "the" best year of my life. I had a job in the coal mine. I actually started the night we graduated. didn't have a summer vacation but I had a brand new car and watched most of the movies at the drive in. ours had excellent food. don't remember most of the commercials because I was either at work, asleep, or out ridin around partying and chasing all the women I could. wasn't all that successful but I tried real hard. appreciate the flash back. long live the 70's. thanks from an old hippie.

Johnnyboy792 hands down the best put together retrospective of the past in pop culture. love all of these. Nostalgia is a big business for a reason, it tugs at your heart. Even the commercials seemed better even though its just nostalgia making us feel that way. You don't dwell to long in each segment but leave the viewer wanting Morse. Bravo man!! Ahhh, 1974. The year I graduated PHS. Worked at Farrell's Ice Cream Parlour. Became a freshman at Rutgers. My music brain must have been on "hyper-record" back then - I remember great songs by the Stylistics, Bo Donaldson & The Heywoods, The O-Jays, et al. I even went to a Nixon Resignation party!! (Barry Richmond, are you out here in UA-cam land?) This year is so indelibly etched in my memories - it was a time of change and growing up. Thanks Johnnyboy!!!

excellent vid bro but some of the stuff you feature here is actually from 73 or 75. still great.
i was only 6 years old in 74 my parents had recently divorced and my mom made us move all the time when it wasn't even necessary plus i had undiagnosed asperger's and whatnot so in many respects it was a very sad time be that as it may i saw damn near every one of these movies in a theater and do in fact remember most of these commercials and tv shows (even if i wasn't a regular watcher of them all). the 70's were a very dark decade in many respects but no doubt THE BEST decade for music that ever there was. even the commercial am pop radio hits were great back then. damn sure not the case now.
i also distinctly remember people in general were alot thinner than they are now. there were overweight and even obese people then too but nowhere near like you see now.

I always thought streaking was stupid! Thank God it didn't last too long.
When David Niven saw that man streaking on the Oscars telecast and made his classic remark about the man "showing his shortcomings," he probably meant that the streaker was making a fool of himself. Unfortunately, many have interpreted Niven's words to mean that the naked man was revealing his small penis.

I turned 16 that year, loved college basketball & was thrilled when UCLA actually had a losing season, didn't even win the NCAA title that year (NC State won). Everything was Watergate, Watergate, Watergate, with Nixon resigning in August. We all saw it coming, he got himself in such a mess. Saw the Godfather II and thought it was great as the first one, also saw one of the best movies of all time, The Sting. Saw the Towering Inferno from the front row--the only seats left. Hank Aaron breaking the new HR record, the kidnapping of Patty Hearst, Loved listening to the radio: Seasons in the Sun, the Streak, Bennie & the Jets, Love's Theme, the Joker, Rock the Boat. Watching All in the Family, Sanford & Son, Rhoda, MTM Show, Carol Burnett, the Waltons, Good times. The IRA bombing Britain.

God I miss these days! Just a great time. Nam was almost over, but not for the boys who never came back, and while they were gone, fighting communists, America turned communist!
I was 4, and could walk around my little town, all by myself, and no one cared! After 8 hours of playing in the snow, my mother would force me in the house and NOW, I can barely stay outside in winter for 15 minutes...

I was a couple of months old in 1974. It was an interesting time for me. I was unemployed, living with my parents and relying on them to take care of me. How times have changed because now I'm employed and I have kids of my own living with me and relying on me to take care of them. Somehow, I miss Watergate.

Oh man! 1974. I turned fourteen that summer. That was also the summer I "discovered" what real and true friendship meant. I commented on another video that I could write an entire book just about 1976. Well, the same is true for 1974. ...and 1975, etc.
I have been actually working on writing my life stories from the seventies. Along with my old journals from back then (Yes, they do still exist!) these videos are really helping pull me back into those times. I can't thank you enough for this amazing work you are doing. :)

I was in Fort Myers Middle School. The vice principal, Mr,. Gauthier, was Army vet who administered the licks for students who preferred a swat on the rear with a paddle instead of sitting for an hour in detention hall. Yes, we received corporal punishment in those days. What an honor it was to pickup his lunch tab in Matlacha years later one Veterans Day. I told him that my brother and I might have set the record for licks. He said he gave every one with love, which I thought was humorous. He lost a finger and a leg in Korea. They called him Pegleg, but he was truly an American hero. Kids can be so dumb....What an honor it was to know this man.
