  • As I don't have a 4th Axis I decided to think outside the box and do a work around to allow me to machine 2 different style of Alloy angle brackets on my Home CNC one mirrored angle bracket and one twisted angle bracket in the end the 100 x 100 x 5mm Gal box I used for the fixture was way to flexible which led to very average surface finishes But it turned out to be a rewarding little project cheers Bill

That tool changer slide out is awesome! You don’t have to waste good rigid Y length on a tool changer… Nice work.

Hi Troy well the 3 things I wanted on this machine was an ATC spindle, Servos and the Masso controller I didn't realize just how good the sliding tool rack and ATC spindle would work, bit of a game changer really I'm currently working on a project so that I can get the mist coolant tube down close to the cutter then have it move up and out of the way for the tool change I will machine up an alloy bracket with a small pivot bearing ....activated by a small air cylinder at the same time the coolant is switched on and off . If it works out I will do a video of it ok cheers BIll

That’s a clever fixture Bill. I am really enjoying watching your videos.

Hi..... well I am trying to keep them light hearted yet informative . The fixture..... I found it looking through my scrap bin, If I was doing these brackets for production I would make a proper fixture out of 100 x 100 Alloy block but it was just an exercise to see if it was doable so used what was at hand thanks for commenting cheers Bill

Nice work Bill.If you extend that coolant nozzle right down near the job you should be able to drop the air consumption and get a more precise shot at the cutting edges and chip clearance. It will also be quieter at a lower pressure.

Hi Micheal the trade off is clearance with the other tool holders in the rack when the spindle goes almost right down to the surface of the tool rack on tool changes, if I had it longer which would work much better, I would have to remember to move out of the way before a tool change and reposition it after every tool change so yeh but thanks for the comment cheers Bill PS do you still have your Tormach mill

Bill you’ve built an incredible “printnc”. Your design is far more superior than the original. I’d love to know more about your build. I’d like to build one exactly like yours. Is there anywhere I can find more info about it? I’m a member on the discord but it’s not the easiest thing to use/navigate.

Well thats the great thing about the PrintNC it is so upgradeable the only limit is how much money you want to put into the upgrade I didn't build a standard PrintNC and then upgrade it I built a PRO version strait off ....... get onto the Discord go to the Build logs and find Bill's PNCPRO build it's a long log, but lots of photos and videos showing start to finish build of my machine I hope it helps thanks for the positive comment cheers Bill

Hi Bill, do you have plans for your CNC machine. I want to build a PrintNC but I also like the tool changer etc.
Great videos, down to earth 😀

Hi If you get onto the PrintNC Discord go to build logs and find my log which is Bill's PNCPRO Build it's a start to finish build lots of photos and some videos it shows every thing I've done just keep in mind that you go tool rack you will need extra gantry height for an ATC . But yeh the ATC is a real game changer glade you like the videos Cheers Bill

Wish i had more Z height in my home workshop machine to be able to do a similar operation on a project. Ended up making a hole in the table only to find out the ball screw was attached to the casting with a rib running across under the table, oh well...

Hi I went as high as I dare with the X axis beam and only just have enough clearance for my sliding ATC tool rack to work it's a trade off between height and rigidity I think I have a good balance of both anyway thanks for the comment Cheers Bill
