One of the best symphonies ever.

Definitely. I was surprised to find that only a handful of Atterberg's symphonies had score videos on YT, so I decided to go through the cycle. Hoping to finish videos for 2-9 in the next week or so. Idk when I can finish 1, since I can't find a score for it.

@@thenoblegnuwildebeest3625 where are you finding these scores? I'm curious, because I'm a conductor that wants to program his works... I ordered the Sinfonia for Strings, Op. 53 from Sweden. We will be performing it in November (Vintage Parlor Orchestra)

Do you have the score for the Sinfonia for Strings, Op. 53? Would love to have that one!

@@tompike3947 Sorry for the late reply. I've been getting them from here: classical-music-online.net/en/composer/Atterberg/2242
It doesn't seem to have Sinfonia for Strings, unfortunately.
If you want any of the pieces I've put on my channel, I'd gladly mail you the scores, though.

@@vintageparlororchestra7898 Can't find that piece in particular. I get the scores from here: classical-music-online.net/en/composer/Atterberg/2242
I could mail PDFs of you any of the pieces on that page, if you'd like.

Symphony 8, like Atterberg's other symphonies, never reaches sublime heights or profound depths, but is a well-constructed, fun, easy, listen which never bogs down, and always knows where it is going. Thus it is a perfect vehicle for the folksong themes it showcases.

wholeheartedly agree with your comment, I appreciate his music and have been finding them really fun to listen to, his symphony 2 and 3 have their moments as well, but I just never could really get personal with his music.

@@mrturtle1128 yes, the first movement of the 3rd has an appealingly impressionistic approach which I like, but then there's his 6th, the so-called "Dollar" Symphony, clearly built to win a prize and not much more: on the first two listens, I thought it was a work of genius, so I ordered the entire boxed set of his symphonies (lol). Unfortunately I became progressively less excited on subsequent listens. The main problem with his later symphonies is he dropped the impressionistic approach in favor of clearly drawn melodies and logical construction, which also tended to drain the feeling out of it.

    Lightness of melody is splendid

Is it the composer's handwritten score? But is this wonderful piece unpublished? If so, I would be surprised. This piece seems to use the motif of Swedish folk songs, but it has a unique lightness to it. For an Asian me, I think Swedish folk songs themselves are wonderful. This piece is beautifully finished into a symphony with Atterberg's skillful orchestration, and it will one of the greatest masterpieces of the Swedish symphony, fully demonstrating the splendor of Atterberg's unique string and brass ensemble.
