    One little trick I use is knowing interval shapes. You just have to identify your root and start building chords on top of that. If you want to try it, learning the intervals relative to the 5th and 6th strings is a good start. Once you got your octaves, thirds and fifths down, you can find the rest by adding tones and semitones and going one octave up and down. It might sound messy but it's quite helpful.

    ok, i have a question, with the first position Cdominant7 (C7) that is shown it seems like the G is replaced by the B-flat rather than adding a fourth note to the chord. Is this typically of the dom7 where that third note of the triad is replaced by the dom7 note, rather than adding to chord, or is this it just a feature of the particular chord shape? I guess my question if, why is it not called some other chord if it doesn't have the G note. To add to my confusion I notice that if I play the Cdom7 as a bar chord as he played once in the video all 4 notes are there. Also, in theory if one would play the low G on the E string with their thumb in that first C chord position to get the G in there would that in theory still be a Cdominant7? Hope that was clear, I jumped around a bit.

    • @Guitarzoom
      @Guitarzoom  Рік тому

      Hi Vivian! Here are some voicings for C. Cmaj7 - From string 5 X35433, from string 6 you have 8X998X for C7 - String 5 X35353 barring from string 5, on the 6th string apart from the one shown on the lesson you can play 8X898X. For Cm7 on str 5 you have X35343 also barring from the 5th string and for string 6 position 8X888X. Whenever you see an X this means the string is muted. Hope this helps and answers your question. Let me know if I can be of further help.

    by the way, Steve, do you know, that in Germany B is called H, while B flat is called B?
    It's always confusing for german beginners.
    Some music teachers in Germany meanwhile use to teach both versions, but use the american names when they talk to theire students :-)
    Btw. John Sebastian Bach used the german B (B Flat) and the H to put his Name in his music: B-A-C-H (B Flat,A,C and B)

    • @louiseattzs
      @louiseattzs 7 років тому

      Alejandro Hetfield the 7th note in the D major scale is C#, so Dmaj7 = D, F#, A, C#, a D7 chord would = D, F#, A, C
