You have NO IDEA how bad I needed to see this video! I am in the layout stages of my items for my (son) Chief’s retirement shadow box and your videos have been most helpful. Thank you Sir! This particular glue down video is superb. Thanks a million man.

Excellent presentation. Just what I needed before I start.

This was such a useful video, thank you! Any tips for adding hanging medals? I have some with a safety pin style backing and some that are intended for a ribbon mount. Are the medals heavy enough that I should remove the felt? Do you use anything to bulk out the back part of the medal to keep it flush with the mounted ribbon?

I sometimes cut off the pin but other times I don’t cut them off. If you’re doing a lot of medals I would remove a small piece of felt to secure to the backboard. If you have any other questions please let us know.

I have a question about the pin-on items. How do you secure them? Are they also secured with the clear silicone? Have you tried using clear acud free archive quality double sided tape? If so how were the results?

We have found that the clear silicone adhesive works the best but first cut off the straight pins on the back of the items. I have not used the tape but heard it didn’t work well.

I have a question about the glue being used; is it acid free, so that the artifacts that come into contact are preserved? Thanks for a thorough presentation, it was very informative.

Bob - we use a silicone adhesive and haven’t had any issue with preservation of the items. Just make sure you avoid super glue as it will
make military medals lose their polished finish.

Silicone releases acetic acid when it cures.

Be sure to use ammonia-free glass cleaner.

I'm seeing this video again it's only one with details I need. I have a prob. Making a flag box for my husband of his Dad's Marines service. He died in 2019. I bought the shadow box. Flag at top then long rectangle window at bottom. With 4x6 ares in middle of the 2 parts for a pic. He has abt 5 items. But it seems that the items will be "far away" fr the glass so you cant see them. Real good. In set to far I guess I mean. I want to bring forward. Closer to glass. To see better. Since it pre made...can I detach long rectangle piece of back board fr flag part and get some hard foam maybe that's thick to bring items closer to glass? Does that make sense? I guess I would need to recover the foam then glue pieces to it. Just bottom part is hard to see into it any medals due to depth. I want to bring forward....ugh...

Without seeing the display I’m not sure if it could be retrofitted to bring the back closer to the front. But I would think it could be done.

Why do you cut a hole for the coins? My guess would be because the weight could pull the cloth off the board or it acts like a "pin", holding it more secure.

Like I stated in the video, the weight of the coin could pull the fabric backing away from the backboard. And yes it holds it more securely. Thanks for the comment.

In the second video we talk about that. The back comes off to gain access.

Hello Sir. Why not leave the pins in the back and push them into the backer along with your adhesive for added support?

@@tombarberio9125 if you have a soft board I guess you could. I have never had great experience doing it that way. We make our displays with a hardboard backed board. Which you can’t push through. But you need to secure by more than pushing through.
