I think this is the 5th video of the Pinderwagen Misha has shared on his channel!
Delving into the comments on UA-cam can be a humbling experience and I would like to say THANK YOU for all the appreciation you guys show for the Golf.
It's been a long project with a lot of highs and a few lows but to end up here is extremely satisfying.
I've often had comments saying "why not just buy a better car to start with?"
But that's missing 2 important points, first, this has been built over a decade and a half, as I saved up enough money I could move onto the next stage. Like most hobbies, this was done in my spare time as funds and time became available. I've had comments that I could buy a Porsche or M2 for what I've spent, you couldn't, nowhere near. Obviously if you had to pay someone else for their labour that's different, but who puts a cost on their hobby that they like doing for themselves?
Secondly, I really enjoy it. This is what I do for fun. Buying a car already built just doesn't give the same satisfaction. I've learned a huge amount during this build, things I'd never know if I just bought a car off the shelf.
It's far more satisfying to me to to drive a MK2 Golf sub 7:30 BTG that you've built yourself from the ground up than jumping in a Cayman or similar and doing it straight away.
The gearbox was an uprated one in 2020, a full Quaife semi helical strengthened gearset.
Sadly it isn't up to the job and over the winter of 2022 / 2023 I've swapped from the 02J to a full SQS 02Q Dog Box which is far stronger.
The drivers adjustable seat rails have too much play which I hadn't realised until I saw the incar video, they are being removed.
Once again, thank you to Misha for sharing this video and for all the positive comments about the Golf 🙂
/just to add, before anyone mentions Bobas Golf. That's a drag car, not a track car. On the drag strip, he'd annihilate me, on the Nurburgring I'd be significantly faster 😉/
/overtaking is allowed on either side as this was a Destination Nurburgring Ringmeisters trackday. They are low numbers trackdays where overtaking on either side is allowed. 👍🏻/
Your car is absolute gem and you are legend, sir. Making such amazing car as your hobby from your own funds is feat on it´s own. I really hope you will be doing well and we will see many more videos. Those older cars are much more entertaining than some modern cars like you described, off the shelf. They are much more brutal, raw, and you can see the time and sweat you have put into it.
agree with you on all points, im deciding my platform to start on
Legend👏👏👏
Agree whole heartedly, I love the surprised look on peoples faces I get with my 20 year old Impreza in the car park afterwards and the conversations that develop too... build not bought :)
Methodical, logical, progressive builds for the win. Not everybody can/wants to go down the same route, but huge respect for everyone who does.
Very quick, clean lap, particularly given the lack of 5th Nige 👌
These are the types of cars I love to see on your channel. The GT3 and 2RS cars are still amazing, but the rawness and emotion these built cars deliver are on another level IMO. It's not just about the speed but the way the car makes you feel that really brings enjoyment.
Exactly, especially for this gent who built it himself
Couldn't agree more. Man and machine are one here.
Couldn't agree more
Great car need more built car laps, you can see this guy loves his car
It’s always how the car makes you feel, that brings enjoyment. Speed isn’t the key. James may was right 😂
Nigel is some pilot - smooth quick and well within the cars limits - That Golf is some piece of engineering - fit for purpose !
VWs of that vintage are PANZERS!! I had a Jetta mkIII and in an accident where I damaged 3 cars in front of me (don’t ask, long hours and not enough sleep are deadly) pretty badly I only spent $250 or so at the frame shop and all the parts you’d expect in front of the engine (mainly cooling system) and the thing was brand new…
The concentration to stay out of 5th gear with that many up/down shifts is impressive as well. He’s getting every ounce of power and capability out of that car, absolute masterclass!!!
I've owned 90 gti 16v since 02 third owner, sitting in my shop with a blownup big turbo 20v 6speed o2m and all the parts for 1k whp and a 7speed dsg swap just need the time to build the engine
A few turns in and I am already saying to myself, "I like this guy". Classic "guy who has a million laps vibes" from this guy, millimeter perfect and close to walls
7:26 ish in a MK2 Golf. That's nuts. Nige is a legend!
@Z S gotta love it! 🤩
What a build, what a lap! Love the blow off sound
This car is now magnificent even without the 5th gear
The first British car in a long while that’s not over heated! This is car tuning done properly!! Hats off to you sir for building a legendary car 👏
I have been following that car for years... what a work of art and determination! AWESOME!!!!
Hello
This golf is still in 2 wheel drive??
I love how confident Nigel drives.
Focussed, smooth, no hesitation and everything done deliberately.
Wow👊 Got respect for Nigel and what he's done with thar car. If i worked it out right then that was a BTG of 7:30. Did a taxi lap with Moritz in the GT2 RS and that was the same time. Love it👍
Love the displays on the bottom video, hope to see more videos with them.
Keep up the good work 👍
Edit: I also think you've perfected it. Bottom camera aligned with the center of the hood and then an interior camera on the top. I'm not sure if you're looking for feedback but if you are, then here it is
Those are Nige's own graphs unfortunately
These dates are gold.
One of the most exceptional laps as always from this nutter! Great garden shed engineering, great driving, and seems like a bloody nice chap to boot - the whole package.
The BALKAN DREAM MACHINE 😎😎😎
Da
Only thing that's missing is VR6
@@your-mom_was_here ang big bass speaker, for pumping music :P
That was probably one of the best Carousel rides (8:43) I've seen on this channel.
fr that is a fucking fast entry 😅
THE DEFINITION OF BUILT NOT BOUGHT
The "mental exercice" required to drive this fast on this track while fighting your muscle memory not to engage 5th is stunning. Great job Nigel!
I know! I couldn’t believe it.
Exactly. That was just as impressive as the lap as a whole and the speed of the car.. Not one mis-shift that I saw and that 4th to 6th change and back down again happened a lot.
Thank you! It was something I had to consciously do, as you say, 4th to 5th is automatic
It is very interesting: cabin image, front image and speeddometer, rev.counter and gearshift image. You can see a lot of detais.
What a driver his downshift from 6th to 4th gear no bogs or lags or missshifts.. incredible
Its so cool to see the progress that Nige makes, should deffo be a yearly thing forever!
I love this guy, hes oozing with knowledge and passion, it really shows in his creation and driving ability. This car puts my MK7 Clubsport to shame!!
We see your smile behind the helmet Mischa! Would have loved to hop on that MkII!
My dream would be to do a lap on R5 Maxi Turbo.. 😁
Awesome run ... great to see someone who really knows their own car ...pushed hard but never once took it over the edge.
Have loved watching this car grow over the years on the Retro Rides forum. Insane beast of a car with a legend at the wheel. Imagine seeing this barrelling down at you in your rear view at the ring.
This is why built not bought is the beat this guys tinkered with every millimeter of this car and has so much track time its just a perfect car even with no 5th. I love vids like this♥️
Really impressive lap! I'm admiring on the great dedication from the owner to build this car and skills to that level!
I love this car sooo much ! The Porsche killer :) Thank you Misha for showing also this kind of cars and to the owner for showing the rest , that actually it is possible !
Does the ring provide cover for the emotional damage people get from being overtaken by a golf 2?
Thank you for sharing!
This was fantastic. Do I remember this from your channel before? This takes me back to my youth - the nearest I got was building a Mk2 Golf GTi model kit by Revell. I love seeing how far you can take front wheel drive - like the Cupra. Hats off to his development path - power as a last resort 🙂
Wow, what a thrilling run, one of the best I've seen, felt like I was there minus the g-forces.... Supercars maybe faster, but somehow they don't deliver the same rawness as these modded semi-racing hatchbacks. 400 Kph on a Bugatti is a bore compared to 220 Kph in this beast, balls out into the esses. Superb driving and seemingly perfect racing line.... fabulous indeed, thanks so much for letting us dream!!
I love to see Nige and his Mk.II beast on this channel. That car is phenomenal!!!!!!!!
Amazing car. It is awesome to see cars like this on the track. And this Golf II is so "fuck***" fast.
I really enjoy this video. Awesome content on your channel, Misha. Thanks :)
PS: My mother owns back in the days a VW Golf (2) GTI edition one. For me still a very beautiful and amazing car.
Best wishes Chris
I see what you did there, **’ing out the NON-explicit part…😆😆🤣🤣
Monster. Sounds amazing too. Shame about 5 gear thou. But a excellent lap.✌
I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing this machine on tracks many of times, amazing bit of machinery❤
Hello fellow jooser
That overlay HUD is so cool!
Has been nice watching this project mk2 evolve over the years. Even with all your experience of Nordschleife, that must of been an exciting lap to co pilot Misha 🙌
I had a 91 GTI with a 99 VR6swap big turbo. I can't believe how fast I drove that car with no aero or brake upgrades, I ditched the police every time at least 25 times plus. These cars are so so fun. I drive a 2016 VW GLI now and dearly miss my Mk2s and Mk4s, new stuff just isn't the same!
Great video and awesome car! Had me smiling the entire time. I’m a VW fan and love to see builds like this hit the tarmac :D
This is an optimal combination of driver , skill , car and track for me to co drive and have fun. :)
That intro was manical!
Excellent Vid. This dude and his car are legends.
Thank you, Misha!
-Luis
Wow, Nige that’s mental now mate, that’s one of the most exciting laps I’ve seen on the ring, what a machine now, hats off to you fella, and please this year can I have a passenger lap at some point 👍🏼
Definitely mate!
That was fun to watch! Great run and awesome build!
Great job finding the bust tooth in the oil before it smashed the Gearbox, would love to see the Golf running with all gears, awesome track tool. I've owned 2 Mk 2's in the UK both 8v, love them too bits, never tuned them though. awesome video
This tickles the spot! I have always been a fan of built not bought. I actually do not like hyper cars or super cars. I have always loved something built in a shed at home.
Great driving and the car is awesome. It was at times hard to notice that the 5th gear was missing because the gearing was tight enough.
Imagine if the original Golf GTI would have been this car without a splitter and the spoiler!
More Interesting than the High Power AMG cars and GT3s etc As this is Mainly Home Built,Much Respect for Your Skill 👍
All this maestria without the 5th gear... this was absolutely breathtaking!
Was wondering if anyone else noticed
Wow. What a lap! Amazing job by Nigel and the car itself. Got to be one of the fastest golf’s I’ve seen.
Yesterdays video was great with the speedo cam put in a special layer.
And this kind of speedo display today is what I ´m longing for. 🥰
Amazing to see so much stability and precision on such a highly modified car 👍
The MKII Golf will always be one of my favorite shapes and favorite cars with a huge spot in my heart. I built several MKII VW's and I loved them all....This car is such a BEAST. So cool. Now he needs to do a full on mechanical AWD system... he has no choice IMO.
Were those tires already warm Misha?, he got on the track and right to business, no cold tire issues ...Might've took him 18 years but he's here now. MOAR POWAAA! 😂
Imagine the rear view mirror in the two porches: "Damn, here comes the Devil" 10:49. Great car and pilot! Thanks Misha!
Car keeps getting better, kudos to you both and thanks for sharing!
The Pinderwagen is always a joy to see blasting down the ring.
A car some of us used to drive to school 20yrs ( in the exact color..) runs BTG 7:30
Well i guess bonkers is the correct term
@4:36 When you popped the BOV at the Porsche just because you could. haha
Last video about this golf i liked, this one i just love, i cant stop smile : D what a fun little thing!.
This is so amazing! Awesome car and great owner 👏🏼 Love this kind of content
That golf mark2 is dope af unbelievable build over 18yrs
what i love about the old golf is the stock dash with the speed tach going over
Incredible! This is what I call a real project of engineering! In combination with this magnífic handling, are my favorite videos! Thabk you Misha and thanks to the owner, you have done a serious work!
Holy crap that thing is wicked fast. I saw a MK1 dominate at Willow Springs for a VW event but this is another level of crazy.
This was the best sounding blowoff valve I have ever heard in my life! Absolutely love this car!!!
This is def one of the coolest persons/cars you featured on this channel!!!!
Een windtunnel is zeker interessant om te zien hoe goed de Aero aanpassing uitpakken.
This fellow is inspiring role model to all those motorsport enthusiasts who can't afford to go and buy an expensive track tool.
Nige has built a monster Golf! And the way he drives it and know's his car so well inside and out. What an absolute legend.
I haven't enjoyed watching a video like this in a long time!;-)
Fahrer und Fahrzeug eine Einheit, akkurate Lenkarbeit, sehr flüssig. Was für ein wundervolles Stück Technik in seinem Einsatzzweck!
Amazing 👏 the turbo noises are spot on what a cool vw. great driving, too, one love 👊 🙏
Realy Nice build. Congrats
Golf II Jumbo Gti was on another level , straight from the showroom floor. Long distance high speed tourer. So surefooted, the brakes and a motor that just asked to be wound up.
Certainly a a Grand Tourer without the price tag.
doensnt seem to miss 5th that much with the gears so close to each other, its freekin quick and nice to see it on a proper dry day cos wasnt it slightly damp last time?
Wow, talk about a death-defying thrill ride!
Something that light - going that fast - with a Rabbits' aero (or lack thereof) just seems to me
to be one bump away from just flying off the track and landing in the trees somewheres. 🙂
This was a fun one, Misha. Thanks for surviving and sharing.
- Ed on the Ridge
What a lap ! I loved my Mk2 GTI , fantastic car this one is just crazy. Could feel the G's through the screen. Very capable driver aswell. Does it even need 5th 🤣
3:35 i feel u man, i used to try and SMS my friend while my mom driving me to school when i was too late :)
Smooth driver. The car looks to be very fluid, well setup!!!
Brutal car, and great driver. Kudos!
Loved it!! Even with no 5th gear!! That was such a cool lap. Really enjoyed that 👌
this guy knows a few things about Cars and how to do a lap. legendary guy
my grandpa used to rally a little volks like that ! timeless car when build right so light, props to the owner !
Sweet car, impressively fast!
If I had one suggestion for the owner, I would say he should look into figuring out how to mount his seat a little stiffer. That deflection will really mess with your road feeling, essentially giving you a delay, and a vagueness. Along with moving your body relation to the steering wheel, shifter, and pedals. There is also a potential safety risk there too, as the deflection could allow your belts to slip off the HANS or change tension in an incident.
I absolutely agree. It's the adjustable seat runners that have too much play. I didn't notice they were that bad until I saw the video.
I'll definitely fix them!
The pinderwagon is back!!!! Nigel you monster builder!
Mishas face at 6:45😂 The wall was coming in quick
I like this guy) Amazing project and glorious sounds.
Laps with fast VW drivers are way more interesting to watch than any top lvl Porsche laps.
man i love this golf. what an absolute weapon. well done as always @pinderwagen !
This man is a vw legend!!! 509hp... nuts!
Your grin is so clear even in that helmet! Epic lap!
this is the best way to build your track car, get everything right then treat yourself with some extra power
Always fun to watch this guy and his car! The guys on the Porsche's must get so mad when he goes flying past them on a Golf 2! :D
Wow, that Golf is hellish fast. He was eating Porsches alive. Those guys couldn't believe they were eaten by a Golf.
Hands down my absolute favourite "built not bought" car to see on the ring
What a unit (both the car and the driver) - it was fantastic to watch this, thank you
That Golf is Nucking Futs!
Goosebumps from that run even without 5th :-)
A true WTF car for the other Ring drivers lol
Amazing drive. This car seems so stable.
10:39 jeeeeeeeeez, just unbelievable 😮
This guy *SENDS IT* !
I couldn't make out what he was saying, you can pass on the right bcuz it's free bison day? 7:03 he says ugh but I thought that was a pretty smooth save.
Holy shit that thing rides flatter than a GT3 car! @6:05 I don't know the name of the corner but it's the first car I've seen ever hit this apex.
What a brilliant madlad! Sick car, so impressive what he has built.
