This song hits me harder now than it did when I was younger. Cuz now I'm a mom to a special needs child. And every achievement is a hard-fought, hard-won victory.
Couldn't agree more. My son has Autism and is completely non-verbal. We still try to push him. I've had him in Scouts for years now. Sometimes, when it seems he barely understands that he's even part of the group, I think about pulling him out. But then, he'll do something to show he HAS been paying attention and he does enjoy being included. And all the frustrations are worth it.
@@chrisdutton2975 I call those "hugs from God". My son is semiverbal and we homeschool him. Sometimes I feel like he's plateaued and he'll never be any more advanced than he is now. And then he'll do something that shows he still has room to grow. Just the other day he read a whole word without sounding out each letter first. I wanted to cry. Bless you and your family.
I can identify. I lost a special needs daughter. If you ever need anyone to talk to, please contact me. Even though she is gone, i am still in that special community. I love your heart.!please contact me!!
Garth Brooks has so many powerful and meaningful songs, but he limits their exposure on social media. It’s a shame because I would love to see more reactors be introduced to Garth.
Now that's a dad...his ego was so worried about embarrassment, however, when the moment came that was all forgotten. He stepped up and did the right thing!
It wasn't really even about embarrassment, I think it's because he honestly didn't want to see his son get hurt, but like any good father he's going to he there when it matters.
@@josephsmith590 agreed and I also think he didn’t want his son to be the target of ridicule I always thought the dad got a bad rap by people but a fathers job is to protect his son while at the same time raising a man which can be a difficult balance
My sister was special needs. She’s gone now but it was so important to her to be accepted by her peers. The teachers weren’t always supportive. But my parents always fought for her. It’s a whole other world when you have special needs in your family.
It looks like he gave up on trying to have them removed. I’ve been finding a lot of them the last few months. I’m glad to finally hear the real Garth too.
This song hits home for me, I struggled with who I was . I achieved goals that people told me I could never do. As a Motivational Speaker and my husband both can say it is ok to Stand Outside the Fire.
Dude, you have some muscles!! Having lost a special needs daughter, this hits home!! She is with Jesus now. She loved competing in Special Olympics. It made her feel so special!!
This song is about everyone who has to go through this unpredictable roller-coaster called LIFE! Especially those who live with disabilities and disorders. Special Olympics used this song as their THEME SONG!!!
the dad was at all the practices too. he was worried that something was going to happen the entire time, he expressed it horribly, but he was scared for his son
I have worked with people with Special Needs for 34 years. I learned so much. People need to remember that they all have the ability to learn, love and grow. 💜
That video still gets to me every time I see it even though I know how it ends. Strong message and powerful video to go with it. Wow. That's Garth Brooks for you. You should see his video for the thunder rolls I have a link to it if you want to see it. It was so powerful that country music tv banned the video. Let me know I'll send you the link.
Me and my Dad sing this together, one of our favourites and I think one of the first songs I remember him teaching me, we still sing together and I'm 28 now
I’ve had the honor of working with adults with a wide range of disabilities and the number one thing people that I’ve noticed and seen first hand is how people underestimate these talented and amazing individuals ( even there families at times underestimate them as well) , if given just a chance they can and will surprise you ❤️❤️ I always gasp when he falls and cheer him on while is running , this song and video take you on a rollercoaster of emotions ❤️
One of the greatest songs by in my opinion one of the greats of country music!!! I still love this song and all Garth songs , thanks for this reaction!!! Have to do more Garth
This is basically a song about those who were picked on showing everybody else that they can do what everybody else can do people with disabilities mental or physical fighting to do what everybody else can do
Billy, you so the best. Just so you know. I’d forgotten about this song, how much meaning there is in it, and how much I loved it. Thank you for reacting to it.
Both parents love him...it is just his mother wants him to experience the life all people have a right to experience...and his father is frightened that something might happen to him. Dad isn't unsupportive...he is scared of his son getting hurt. But in the end, to accomplish anything in life, you have to take the risk of pain and failure.
Dana says- Exactly! My son has special needs and it is sometimes a real battle, knowing he has been made fun of, betrayed by so-called friends, ignored when all the other kids are getting invites to parties, etc., to not try to over-insulate him. Sometimes you need to protect your child and you do the fighting for your child to experience the things everyone else gets to or find the right setting for them to be happy in, sometimes the right thing is letting them fight for themselves. It's hard to always know which tact is right for each specific circumstance. Both the Dad and the Mom love their son very much and want him to be happy.
Mom stood strong for her son n dad...self centered n embarrassed...until he falls. Then he motivates. Take the messages of power n strength n use them, pass on to those who need the lift! Still hits hard in two thousand twenty four.
Being the parent of three special needs kids… every inch is hard fought. Everything is celebrated. This makes me proud, cry and thank him for writing about this topic when no one did.
Absolutely love this song and the music video. My son is part of special Olympics and also has his own business! At 13 he works harder than most adults
6:25 - Dad was scared too many different ways, but he gave his boy a chance and changed his mind by doing the right thing once Dad saw how determined his kid was to run track. Mom supported her son all along.
Love that your experiencing the power Country music has. I've been Country since Country wasn't Cool. Which is also a Song. The videos really provide a powerful message. Keep up the good work.
Garth has been deep in it on social issues for decades. The story of him nearly walking out before the Super Bowl is everything you need to know about Garth.
The majority of the school teachers, staff etc ALWAYS tried to make me join the special Olympics because I had polio and was in a brace & I was told I wasn't "normal'. That pissed off my oldest sister & mom. They told me I could sign up for whichever one I wanted & felt I could do. So when I first heard this song it was like major flashbacks for me. Then he put out the video and kept it true to the song. Wish it was out when I was growing up.
Awesome, it is so hard to find this video consistently, it's like he makes sure it's taken down, it's weird considering the message, if I had his talent I would share this with the world for free, bless you for showing it 🌸👍🦘🇦🇺.

Awesome video! Glad to see some Garth making an appearance on your channel. I know his videos are very hard to find here on UA-cam, but if you could, please react to The Dance and The Thunder Rolls. I think you'll enjoy the songs and videos. BYSE will enter the chat, just a little warning.....
Man, this song hit me today not because of the song or video. But I had gotten some good tickets to the Garth Brooks show for his latest tour for my wife’s birthday. Well, that was late 2019. Then covid hit. The show was rescheduled twice, and just a couple days ago finally cancelled completely. I know why, but it still sucks that I had gotten a great gift for her to get to see him as he is her favorite. And now it isn’t happening. I hope he still does the tour some day and I can try to get tickets again.
Can we just say this is a country music singer, singing about things that country music singers didn't sing about in 1993, and yes, it's still as powerful today! ...need to see if you've done We Shall Be Free, but if you haven't...
That's his daddy. He was mad because he didn't have faith in the people around his son. That moment his son fell, he was enraged with pride. He had faith all along
When this video first came out Way back in the 90z I loved the song n video but now all these yrs later this video has a different meanin for me!! As a mother of 3 Autistic sons I gotta say I absolutely love people with special needs!!! I loved them b4 now I do as a mom!!! They're not "different!!" They're normal the rest of us is "different!!!"
I was born with a disability and I must say that the Dad wasn't trying to be unsupportive, he was just afraid that he would get hurt.. My parents were overprotective too and I had to hear them say no you can't then do it anyway.. LOL
Oh I don't know if I can watch this. All of his songs are mahjong me cry right now. But this one had a huge effect of me when it came out. Let's see if I can make it through
This is one of those songs that I prefer to listen to without a video. The lyrics are wonderful and can be personal to each person's situation and experiences. I do love this video though. I just think the song doesn't need it.
The Thunder Rolls - full version, We Shall be Free, The River, and The Dance by Garth listen if even you don't react. Also, Cowgirl's Saddle and That Girl is a Cowboy.

Absolutely! Some of the deep cuts are the best and I’d love to hear them again myself!
This song is powerful. It came out in '93 and I loved it then. Love it way more now. Thank you for reacting to it!

One of my two favorite Garth songs! (The other is We Shall Be Free)
My two favorite are We Shall Be Free and The Change.
We Shall Be Free is completely underrated. Song is what 25 years old and word for word still applies today.
How many other country singers could put pro LGBTQ lyrics in their song, in the 90s, and still stay on top of the charts.
Bad taste one's a rip-off of Kenny Loggins Conviction of the Heart and the other Garth has a hairy beard in the music video which gives me nightmares.
My sister was special needs. She’s gone now but it was so important to her to be accepted by her peers. The teachers weren’t always supportive. But my parents always fought for her. It’s a whole other world when you have special needs in your family.
How did you find a real Garth Brooks video from the 90's . I hope this stays up.
It looks like he gave up on trying to have them removed. I’ve been finding a lot of them the last few months. I’m glad to finally hear the real Garth too.
I love this song!! My great aunt was special needs and this song makes me cry every time I hear it. RIP Aunt Brenda!!
27 years later and this video still gives me goosebumps
This song hits home for me, I struggled with who I was . I achieved goals that people told me I could never do. As a Motivational Speaker and my husband both can say it is ok to Stand Outside the Fire.
Garth is amazing. He's got an all-star discography but this will always be my favorite song/video.
Garth is by far one of the best story tellers

Key word u said is heart. Biggest is Integrity. Doing the right thing when nobody is watching.

This has always been one of my favorite songs and music video. I heard it when I was young walking through my own refiners fire.
Over-protective dad trying to shelter his special-needs son from harm, but smothering him in his exuberance.
This is basically a song about those who were picked on showing everybody else that they can do what everybody else can do people with disabilities mental or physical fighting to do what everybody else can do
This song and video is one of my favorite songs by Garth Brooks. "We Shall Be Free" is another of my all-time faves!
