Mid frame air deflectors do keep the heat off the person, but actually traps the hot air on the back cylinder.

the correct way to use the mid frame deflectors is to just use the left side deflector. Using both will NOT cool the engine but using just one will reduce engine heat while riding down the road. Ask me how I know. I've tried both, just the left, just the right. Best results was running only the left side. Temps down 20 degrees. Temps went higher when using both.

In addition to the three ways you mentioned, I also use a Harley fan that sits between the air deflectors and pulls the heat off the heads and puts in on the ground...Works well ⚡⚡👍👍

    • @HDVIBE

I've seen that as well. I may look into that for my bikes since they are both air cooled. Thanks for the suggestion.

The only downfall is the fan will only work with stock Harley pipes. Although there are a few most after-market pipes curve in too much which leaves no room to have the fan installed. Ask me how I know lol

Also, installing a tank lift gets the tank raised away from engine, choosing your lift height from 1-3”. Choose the air deflectors with it and drop engine temps by 25 degrees. With bonus of those deflector helping reduce buffeting. And, anytime you can get your fuel cooler, the bike can add a little performance. Minimal, but better for everything.

Why? That’s because some people simply like the look, feel ride sound of a Harley that started it’s roots in America over 100yrs ago vs other brand bikes.
Other reason is Harley seems to have the largest coverage of aftermarket customization parts to make the bike your own too.
If you don’t over mod the motor, maintain it well & not hammer it all the time an hd can & will do well over 100k miles without any major engine or trans issues.

    • @HDVIBE
      @HDVIBE  2 роки тому +1

I'm not sure but without the catalytic converter you typically need to re map or tune the bike. If you change the tune with a non Harley tuner more than likely any engine issue won't be covered under warranty. That is the one specified item in the new warranty info Harley recently sent out as a result of the FTC order. If you are a subscriber thank you. For stock bike or just slipon mufflers & maybe an aftermarket air filter this is how to really reduce the heat on an Hd that actually helps the motor & reduces oil temp 60deg F f in summer heat making bike nicer to ride vs rec made in this video that don’t help near as much.
Get less expensive then tuner adjustable XIED’s from dkkustoms to richen up gel mix a bit for better drivability & cooler motor.
Also Gas tank rise kit & front air deflector allowing/directing more cooler air over top of motor from same vender.
Install an Ultracool oil cooler with dual Elec cooling fans along with their billet AL finned cleanable oil filter fir max cooling of oil & engine.
Lastly install love jugs std size or smaller mighty mite Elec cooling fans that mount to horn bracket,Jim’s cooling fan is hood too,
After doing all the above made my FLHTK like a completely diff more pleasurable bike yo ride esp in dummer heat which was the best mods money I ever spent in the bike too.
Motor didn’t loose power whrn hot.
    Oil pressure stayed 6-8psi higher,
    Valves/lifters stayed quiet.
    Motor stopped detonating under load.
Motor started much easier/quicker post fueling up on hot days.
Less heat hitting riders due to cooler running motor.
All rubber /Viton seals(valve seals),gaskets & plastic parts(rubbing blocks/shoes) on cam & prim chain tensioners etc will last longer due to motor & oil running significantly cooler.
Lastly, installed an external crankcase vent system from dkkustoms eliminating hot oil laiden air from crankcase from being ingested thru the motors intake fir emissions prematurely carboning up comb chambers & valves also increasing comb chamber temp s bit too.
It’s not cheap yo do but again my Hd never ran so hood esp in warmer temps till I invested in all the above mods being the best money I ever spent on it that really made it run better that would also greatly extend the motor Srv’c life inc the components in & or close to the motor (esp electrical too like stator)that are all running a bit cooler due to engine running cooler now too.
