I was gonna ask why you didn't include Dog N Suds! Started in 1953 in Illinois and by the early 70's had over 650 locations... including my small town.
I thought they had dissappeared years ago but just looked it up and there's still 15 of them!

My favourite memories were at Farrell's and Sambo's in the 1970s. Farrell's was very over-the-top turn-of-the-century celebration of ice cream culture, especially for a young German boy freshly emigrated to the Untied States in 1975. Sambo's was where I had my first-ever pancakes along with bacon, sausage, and corned beef hash. My father instructed me to spread maple syrup and whipped butter on each layer before eating the pancakes.

3:20 This photo of Steak and Ale was the one in West Mifflin Pennsylvania, 15 minutes from my home. I can remember eating there with my parents almost every Friday night. There is a parking lot there now for UPMC where the restaurant used to be. Pizza Hut and Denny's are still in the same location.

I remember the "CHICKEN DELIGHT" slogan ("Don't cook tonight, call Chicken Delight"). These commercials were from the later 1960"s, early 1970's. I was in grade school. Not sure if I ever ate any of their chicken though. I am now 63 YRS old, but I still remember those commercials.

Growing up in the 70s, I went with my family almost weekly to Burger Chef, and even had a kitchen tour as part of a class field trip (they didn't exactly aim too high for us, did they?). Seeing it on the list brought back some great memories. Nice job!

In Miami, near the Dadeland Mall, there was a Ho Jo's. Blue, White, and Orange. it was there for a long time, when I was growing up. It sat right beneath the expressway entrance ramp going North. I don't remember when it closed, but we ate there quite a few times. One of my favorites was "The Round Table." It was a warmly decorated space, ALA the Knight's Round Table. It had the Salad bar, and a great menu, with steak and other staple dinners. The tables were "round." That was also in Miami, just a mile or two up on Dixie Highway from the Ho Jo's.
Some of the restaurants mentioned here, you could find, when we made our treks North during summer Vacations, until flying there became the norm.
Most of them did not make it that far South into South Florida. But there were a number of small "Steak" style eateries in the Titusville area, Near the Space Port, Cape Canaveral.

Howard Johnson's piqued my attention when "2001 a Space Odyssey" came out. My parents, somehow, managed to scrape together enough funds, took us to Disneyland. When we arrived in Anaheim, we ate at Howard Johnson's. I recall coloring the place-mat while waiting for our meal, it being a 2001 coloring format. That was the best chocolate milkshake I had until decades later!

The first picture in the Steak and Ale segment in along Route 51 in Pleasant Hills PA. The Steak and Ale was demolished and became part of the parking lot for a Toys R Us. When they went under, the building was turned into an outpatient center for one of the local medical groups.

YEARS AGO, there was a Mr. Swiss in Goose Creek, S.C.
The food was so-so. Somewhat on the greasy side.
The most memorable thing of this place was a cook who wore a paper hat that said HAPPY BURGER. In the times I went in there, that man NEVER APPEARED to be happy (GRRRR!!).😊😊😊😊

My first job was at a burger place called, Royal Castle, in the late 60s early 70s. Very similar to White Castle. There were a few of Royal Castles in the area, South Fl. We even featured Birch Beer. I never hear Royal Castles mentioned.

Many of these restaurant chains tend to have a period where they have a good run and then they start to fail. Much of the time it is increasing competition by newer chains that offer something different and they become popular. In time, the older chain simply cannot keep up and is often forced to close their doors for good. Some companies are still around, but they're in a different business Howard Johnson's is one example. They are now a hotel/motel chain. Many others simply disappeared. However many people remember them.

Does anyone out there remember the Dog House chain? Their hotdogs were rather popular with a four-year-old myself as well as the older children I knew. I read an article where it was stated that the Dog House was at one time supposed to be to hot dogs what McDonalds were to hamburgers but the chain unfortunately did a spiral by the mid-sixties. I remember old Dog House stands converted into used car dealer offices...the building that once housed the local outlet is now a middle-eastern takeout restaurant after years of going through a variety of short lived businesses.

instead of worrying about bringing back fast food resturaunts, we get the ones we have to bring back affordable prices as they are raising their prices out of control.
