In the late 1970's (read: 79-82) when we moved into our forever home, MTV came online. We got one of two beta max machines. We had 2 tv's, one in the family room and the other in my parent's bedroom, as a second viewing location. My father had built a wall sized video cabinet to hold our film collection. It was all the rage in Miami, including Blockbuster Video. I loved St. Elmo's Fire and the Breakfast Club. I styled myself as Kirby Kager. OMG when our podunk local cable provider finally started carrying MTV in 1986 😍 I about flunked a school year because of it 😲 I remember it was Channel 19. I can't tell you how many VHS cassettes I recorded onto, it was "the new mix tape format" LOL I got a Rubic's Cube a a stocking stuffer one year. I _still_ hadn't solved it; it's more of a fidgit toy for me. My aunt solved it in like 5 minutes one time... Momma helped run a video rental store as a second job for several years. We actually had a Beta machine first because of the supposed better quality (but Dad got his VHS machine later and *_forbid_* anyone from touching it at first LOL)
I miss the old video games and going to the arcades, which my home town was located in the popular local burger place. Which sadly is gone like the video games and arcade. I remember the rubric cube and 40 years later i still can't figure it out. Yes 10 dollars at Walmart now I remember my first one costing only 2-3 dollars. I also miss the metal scene from the 80s such as bands like motley Crue and def Leppard those were the days.
It seems as though the drive in theatre hasn't been listed as a signature event of the 80's. Sure thr 50's was the "prime" for drive-in's, but in tucson az in the 80's we had like 10 - 15 outdoor screens playing movies, at any one time. Sadly, I have read that they are all gone.

I had a *BIG* crush on her and wished to be that boy in her video. 3. *Blockbuster Video* We didn't have a Blockbuster store where I lived in the 1980s. This became more prominent during the 1990s (during my teenage years) than the 1980s. That said, I liked *Richard Simmons's Sweatin' To The Oldies* videotape because of the many songs they danced to. UA-cam has the sequel videotape, but I can't find the first one. 6. *Betamax Vs. VHS* I never had Betamax, but I loved the many VHS tapes I played on the VCR back in the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s. It wasn't just movies, TV shows, and cartoons that I watched on those tapes. I often taped various TV programs on blank VHS tapes. One such program that stands out among the rest was this now-vintage (and forgotten) documentary about dogs. I can't remember the name of it, but I started to record it when it was about half over. The only segment from this documentary that I can remember quite clearly is of a black labrador named *Sam* who was trained to be a police dog by his trainer named Mel (I think). Mel had Sam perform several tasks - fetching rubber dummies that simulated criminals in real police work and locating and fetching a gun in various hidden locations. Sam passed and became an official police dog. The documentary must have been a rerun when I saw and recorded it in the 1990s because the footage looked grainy - like something filmed either in the late 1970s or early 1980s. The music heard throughout the program also appeared to be from that era. But, every time I mention this particular documentary to people online, *NO ONE* has any idea what I'm talking about! Some are mistaken and think I'm referring to some TV show about a dog named Sam. Others believe I'm experiencing a Mandela Effect. But, I swear on my *LIFE* that I saw this documentary on TV way back when. 7. *Glam Metal* I never got into this genre of music, although I did like a few of Bon Jovi's songs. *Born In The USA* and *Livin' On A Prayer* to name a couple of his songs. 8. *Trivial Pursuit* I may not have liked the board game back then, but now, it's very nostalgic to me.
