Fascinating work and you do it so professionally. I did the front brakes on my 1997 986 Boxster and after looking at you at work, I think I got it right. Copper grease was not applied by me simply 'cos I forgot to. No squeaks coming from them and the car pulls up just fine. I too have ventilated discs ( or rotors as you call them in the US ) and the more advanced "Red" Porsche callipers. Great stuff.
Thank you for all the videos you do. I have a 2001 Boxster S and you have helped me tremendously. BTW, would you mind sharing what brand of brake pads you used?
I have a couple of brands that i like to use. These are factory fitted brands and they are ATE, Textar, Or Pagid. I stay away from brands like Mintex, ferodo, or Napa brands. These types of pads usually have a compound that is to hard and they tend to not work well with the Porsche brake rotors Kurt
Amazing video, so thorough and you did a great job explaining the process. I will be attempting this job at home and this video will be a great help. I do have a question, does compressing the brake pads and letting the old brake fluid from the bleeder screw introduce air bubbles into the system? In your video, you mentioned you were going to flush the brakes afterwards anyways but I was curious if you did not flush the brakes after this job, would there be any air bubbles in the system. I plan to have the brakes flushed at a later time by a professional mechanic. Thanks!
No it wont let in air by opening the bleeder valve while pushing back the pistons. Just dont forget to top off the brake fluid after your pad change. Kurt
A brake related question, but for 83 SC brake booster. What do you do when you encounter a similar vintage brake booster that needs rebuilding? Do you rebuild yourself, or send it out? Would be very interesting to see a rebuild video for a booster. Thanks!
I just dont really see any brake booster issues. Usually the biggest issue is the check valve failing. Other than that in last thirty five years I think I have only needed to replace 1 brake booster. What issues are you having? Kurt
@@klassikats Thanks for looking at this Kurt! My MC was leaking so I removed it along with the booster. Separated MC and BB and there was fluid leaked into the BB. So, replacing the MC w new. Also, trying to figure out how to deal w the wet/flooded BB. What started all this was my calipers froze --- this after rebuilding the calipers, replacing pads/rotors/ and brake lines the hard line attached to caliper and the rubber lines.
I would just drain the brake booster, flush with a little brake cleaner and put it back together. I have done this many times without any booster issues. Kurt
@@klassikats thank you Kurt for the suggestion/recommendation. Do I need to split/open up the booster shell case? Or just drain and clean thru the openings/ports? Thanks!
Great video - thanks for showing how it is done step by step. You commentary on the important things to look for is so valuable! BTW - where was you shop located when you were in Monrovia? I live in next town over for 20 yrs and never knew your shop existed. Cheers!
Hi Jonathan, I had two locations that I was in, the first spot was on Kruse Ave just down below the railway tracks. Then I purchased my own commercial property on Mountain Ave just north of Huntington Drive. Thanks for watching Kurt
@@klassikats wow, so close to me. how could I have not know about your shop? 😣I’ve been here 20+ years and visit that Home Depot near your shops regularly, so must have passed you many times.
Alec, unlikely as the hubs used on the Boxster are completely different to the ones used on the 914. This would result in different offsets. Also the brake rotor thickness are so different that the original calipers would not fit over the rotor.
GREAT JOB!!! One of the best videos I've seen on UA-cam explaining step by step... 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Glad it was helpful!

Great video. Thank you. Followed along as I did them tonight. Easy peasy!
Great to hear!

No do not split it open, just drain it.

Can I use or modify brake rotors from my boxer S for my 914 build
