They're absolutely the cutest fish.. I'm glad you shared this and it's really cool that you have some of these lucky little guys in your possession... it's interesting how many things are rare to you in Australia that here in the US is more easily available.. that being said, it's sad because some of these fish are impulse buys and don't receive proper care. I hope more people do their research and find videos like this before they get these amazing little fish! Thanks Blake... Have an amazing day!👍🐟🌿🌱
Solid info again. I think many ppl fail to treat them as puffers and they are all puffer. They have huge attitudes and have no idea how tiny they are. Thanks Blake
I always hear about the 5 gallon then 3 per puffer. But if you keep more then they can’t establish territory and can live in bigger groups. I’ve got 12 in a ten gallon and they do great!
Same, I had 3 in an 8 gallon and it was the gladiatorial pits in there. Now there's 7 females and 1 male and they only chase off instead of nipping. I think they're also smart enough to know if they get in a fight, they might be too weak to fight the next puffer
Pea puffer prices have dropped a lot since this video- now can be found between $60-100 depending on where you’re buying. I remember my first puffer was $250 a few years ago, they have come down a lot.
woahhh they are adorable little things! hahaha it would be cool to see a tank full of em but being in australia, it might only happen with the sale of a kidney... awesome care video blake! cant wait to see how they go in terms of breeding!
I'm very nervous about the finicky eating. I'm ambivalent about it because can you drop the fresh food in pretty much or do you have to hand feed with a dropper? I just got over loosing a blind diamond eyed beta who never got used to it. I had to sit there every day trying to feed him enough. He never quite got the hang if it. It was a pain nit to mention I'm sure nobody else would have spent all of that time feeding him if they had to babysit him
I have kept shrimp with my pea puffer and he coukdnt be less interested. It does of course vary puffer to puffer though since they all gave different personalities
@@BlakesAquatics is that not an albino bristlenose or some other type of albino pleco in the tank to the right of the pea puffers, bottom left corner of the tank
Ten months later and the prices are starting to drop finally. On the east coast, juveniles are selling for between 80 and 100. Here on the west coast they are still around 150 for juveniles with adults going for over 200. Recently a breeder listed some here for 95, they were immediately all bought by a LFS and priced at 165 each.
Such a beautiful fish but I wouldn't recommend others buying this fish, just saying since its officially *endangered* now. Visiting Kerala a few months ago I was told by locals that the fish is going into decline but the authorities are keeping the news quiet because of its success in the aquarium trade. Other species are also in danger in that area of India but yeah :( Hope people can get some more breeding done with them. Just keep that in mind before you buy these little guys.

I’m sooooo jealous of your setup! Definitely a bucket list fish for me!
Time to get them breeding i think

Its so good, i am really tempted now to get a group of 10
Awesome video Blake, looks like I will have to hold off on getting one of these guys. They would probably bully my community tank :P
thanks for the heads up! I always assumed we couldnt get them here! you should breed them up & make them more commonly available Blakey! 😉
thats the plan

Want one of these sooooo much but also so nervous about caring for them. Thanks for the information. Going to have to just go for it I guess.
Do it 👌
Good peas profile. I'm with you bud, definitely the cutest fish in the hobby.
Thanks mate
They are about £10 each in the UK. There's loads in my local pet shop

I just drop it in but sometimes the blackworms do get into the substrate before they eat them but im sure they hunt them later
Awesome video Blake, they r very adorable, I wouldn't try to even attempt to say there scientific name lol. Thanks for sharing
awesome video mate. glad found ya channel :) jealous you got these guys too!!
Thanks mate appreciate that 👍
Glad to know this info!
Pretty cute, I never had one.... not common where I’m from
What country is that? Super rare here also
Bring one of them tomorrow 😉 haha great spotlight
Hahah good one
what are the best plants to add in pea puffer tanks
Does anyone keep these puffers with cherry shrimp successfully?? I would love to know because I plan to do a planted tank with puffs and shrimps.
I have kept shrimp with my pea puffer and he coukdnt be less interested. It does of course vary puffer to puffer though since they all gave different personalities
Dang scientific name sounds like a spell out of Bed Knobs and Broomsticks lmao
Hahaha 😂
Pea Puffers are found mainly in my region(Kerala, India) and here it costs just around $1..
Luckily the price has come down but still around $50 each here
How are these guys going Blake? Any spawning? ❤️🇦🇺
Nah no spawning, one became a brute and killed the others
@@BlakesAquatics lol not so cute!
Side note your pleco is beautiful
Pleco? 🤔

What's the price like there now?
Still 180 to 300 each

You mentioned their likely only being a few 100 in Australia how did u get lucky with 4 🤯🤔
Bought them as soon as i saw the first ones being advertised, didnt hesitate and paid top dollar
A lot of people thought theyd wait and see, try to haggle and things like that and before they knew it all of them were gone
can i keep em solo?
Absolutely
So.. does the breeding video exist yet? 👍
Not yet sorry 😓
@@BlakesAquatics no worries, I still very much appreciate your knowledge ❤️ can't wait to see more 👍
Good timing. Do you know if you have both sex? . I was able to source 2 of them but not sure if I have 1 of each.
i believe i have 2 of each sex yeah
Blake's Aquatics when you going to start breeding.
@@Callikesfish asap
Hard to find in new Zealand
Equally so in Aus, gotta jump fast 👍
@@BlakesAquatics yea, by the sounds of it there alittle easier to come across here and for sure way cheaper
That sucks considering you have a tiny snail there already that breeds like crazy! 😆

Just keep that in mind before you buy these little guys.
In Australia where I live only domestically bred pea puffers are available to buy since theyre illegal to import.
Otherwise very valid point 👍
Only realized they were endangered through this video! Such a shame. I would love a more robust captive bred industry for so many fish varieties.
1:36 a few hundred dollars per puffer!!!! Yikes.
They are down at 90 dollars or so now 3 years later 😄
Very cute fish but with a lot of attitude!
You got that right!
