During Christmas break railfanning WATWARE Productions was railfanning all over the place. This break showcased some of the best trains, including a Southern Pacific AC44 leading a train, BN SD70MACs, and 5 other railroads.
We first start off on Friday, 12/20, where we see Norfolk Southern local H81 switch out Ford's Lead. The power of the train was GP38-2 5612 and 5615.
The next day, we headed to Port Reading so see empty ethanol train 65K pull out of Motiva with NS C40-8W 8300 leading the way, along with 3 UPs trailing, one being in Southern Pacific paint, AC44CW 6246. After just getting them over the diamond in Port Reading, we see them again passing another 65K, this one with a BNSF ES44, BN SD70MAC, and an NS C40-8W. A little bit after we see the Conrail JR4 crew shove in CSX K634. Both units sounded great notching up, especially the Dash 8 chugging.
Late in the day, with 60 degree weather, K048 and K636 were coming down the River Line. After getting K048 with UP AC44CW 7127 and SD70ACe 8623 leading, we shot up to Teaneck to get K636 before they stopped at the CC boards. K636 had a CSX GEVO, ICE SD40-2 6448, and ICE SD40-2 6424. We then headed up to where they were stopped in Teaneck, where they met X101. We then headed back to Ridgefield Park where we would see K636 for the third and final time. Next up would be Q254. Q254 had SD50-2 8593 leading an ex-Conrail C40-8W. Later, X438 came north with a killer lash-up, including the last active GP39 on CSX's roster, 4294.
The next day we went out for empty crude oil train K043, with a CP AC44CW and a BNSF C44-9W. It me L417 right in front of us.
On Christmas Eve, I received word of Q268 coming down with BNSF 7112 leading. Fortunately I was able to see that.
On December 26th 2 trains were coming north, both with BNSF power. First up was K041 with BNSF 9921 leading a BNSF ES44, followed by Q418 with a C40-8W, a BNSF Dash 9, and a CSX GP40-2.
The next day, December 27th, I ventured out trackside with a few friends. First up was a late SU-100 with 4 SD60s, then Q268 with SD40-3 4047 leading and YN2 SD40-2 8356 trailing. Later the power returns running long hood forward. A few hours later, Q434 comes north with YN2 SD40-2 8863 leading. Then K043 comes north with CP 9509 and BNSF SD70ACe 8789. After that, Q417 would show up with UP 6372 leading. This wasn't any ordinary UP, however. This unit was still in Southern Pacific paint.
The next day I had the chance to see Q418 with the Southern Pacific from the day before. First up though is K685, followed by Q433 with a C40-8W/SD60M/3GS-21B/YN2 SD40-2 lash-up. Then Q409 followed with an AC44/AC6000 combo. This train had to give Q418 a rollby, as it went into emergency.
On December 30th, I ventured up to Bergenfield with a few friends, but first I went to Bergenfield to get K044, with an H2 ES44DC trailing. Later in Bergenfield, Q434 comes north with 2 SD40-2s, an SD60M, C40-8W, and SD40-2 8886. 8886 was originally an SD45-2. Later Q417 heads south with 2 C40-8Ws sandwiching an SD60M. Right after, Q409 heads south with a YN3B GEVO and an SD60I. On the way home I was able to snag K043 flying north with a BNSF C44-9W and an NS ES44AC, 8111.
On January 1st, I caught my first train of 2014. K042 is shown heading south with a BNSF ES44AC and BNSF SD70MAC 9569 in BN executive colors. Later in the day, K045 heads north with a BNSF SD70MAC leading. That marked the end of my mini vacation. Enjoy!
